Campgrounds near Mountain View, Wyoming
Mountain View sits in the Bridger Valley of Uinta County, southwest Wyoming, on the northern edge of the Uinta Mountains and within reach of Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. The town serves as a practical base for RV travelers heading to Fort Bridger State Historic Site, the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, and reservoirs such as Meeks Cabin and Stateline.
Private RV parks in and around town cover most standard needs. Fort Bridger RV Camp and Homestead RV Park sit closest to the historic site, while Lyman KOA Journey is a short drive west off Interstate 80. For travelers routing toward fossil country and the Kemmerer area, Riverside RV Park - Kemmerer and Foothills Mobile Home & RV Park offer options along the Ham's Fork corridor.
Higher-elevation Forest Service campgrounds south of Mountain View, in the Evanston-Mountain View Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, open a shorter season and are reserved through Recreation.gov.
Things to do near Mountain View
Fort Bridger State Historic Site is the anchor attraction, preserving Jim Bridger's 1840s trading post along with military-era buildings, a museum, and interpretive trails covering the Oregon, California, Mormon Pioneer, Pony Express, and Overland trails. The site hosts the Fort Bridger Mountain Man Rendezvous over Labor Day weekend, one of the largest events of its kind in the region.
South of town, the North Slope of the Uinta Mountains offers alpine lakes, trout fishing, backpacking, and OHV routes. Meeks Cabin Reservoir and Stateline Reservoir are the closest boat-friendly waters. Flaming Gorge Reservoir, roughly an hour east, adds a large lake for boating, waterskiing, and trophy trout fishing on the Green River below the dam.

The high-country camping season is short. Forest Service campgrounds in the Evanston-Mountain View Ranger District, including Stateline, Marsh Lake, Bridger Lake, Sulphur, Stillwater, and Christmas Meadows, typically open from late May and close by mid-September, driven by snowpack and freeze risk at elevations of 9,000 feet and higher. Snow can linger on shaded roads into June.
July and August are the reliable window for mountain camping and hiking, with warm days and cool nights. September brings aspen color in the Uintas along with elk and deer hunting seasons, and the Fort Bridger Rendezvous draws crowds over Labor Day weekend, so private RV parks book well ahead.
Winter shifts activity toward snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing on the North Slope. Most Forest Service campgrounds are closed and access roads are unplowed, so RV travelers rely on year-round private parks in town for hookups and services.
How to book near Mountain View
Private RV parks near Mountain View, including Fort Bridger RV Camp, Homestead RV Park, Lyman KOA Journey, Riverside RV Park - Kemmerer, and Foothills Mobile Home & RV Park, take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Book several weeks out for summer weekends, and book earlier for Labor Day weekend, when the Fort Bridger Mountain Man Rendezvous fills lodging across the valley.
Forest Service campgrounds in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache and Ashley National Forests, including sites throughout the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, are reserved through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777, with a booking window of up to six months in advance. Some Flaming Gorge sites remain first-come, first-served.
What to expect in Mountain View
Mountain View sits above 6,700 feet, so nights run cool even in midsummer and afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Uintas. Bring layers, a wind-resistant awning, and leveling blocks for gravel and grassy sites. Cell coverage is reliable in town and along Interstate 80 but drops quickly on Forest Service roads.
Private parks in Mountain View, Fort Bridger, Lyman, and Kemmerer typically offer 30 and 50-amp service, dump stations, and pull-through options, with fewer shade trees than lower-elevation parks. Grocery, fuel, and propane are available in town.
Wildlife along the North Slope includes moose, elk, mule deer, and pronghorn. Follow standard food-storage practices, watch for open-range cattle on backroads, and check fire restrictions with the ranger district before campfires, especially in late summer.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Mountain View, WY
What's the best time of year for an RV rental in Mountain View, WY?
Late May through mid-September is the sweet spot for an RV rental in Mountain View, WY, when daytime highs sit between 70 and 85F and the Uinta Mountains are fully accessible. July and August are peak season for Flaming Gorge and the High Uintas, while June brings wildflowers and fewer crowds. Fall (mid-September to early October) is a local secret, with golden aspens along the Mirror Lake Highway and crisp 50 to 65F days that are perfect for campfire evenings. Winters are cold and snowy, with January lows around 5F, so most hosts run April through October. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season Mountain View RV trip to save money and have the trailheads nearly to yourself.
weather.gov/riw/How much does it cost to rent an RV in Mountain View, WY?
RV rental in Mountain View, WY is one of the better values in the Mountain West, with travel trailers typically running $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes around $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs $225 to $375. Because Mountain View is a small town in Uinta County, hosts often price below Jackson or Salt Lake City rates, which makes this a great launchpad for a Flaming Gorge or Uinta Mountains trip. For a cheap RV rental in Mountain View, look at travel trailers and pop-ups, book midweek, and aim for early June or late September. Pro tip: use the RVezy price filter and sort by lowest nightly rate to spot weekday deals fast.
wyotrip.wyo.gov/What license do I need to rent an RV in Mountain View, WY?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Mountain View, Wyoming. There is no special RV endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required for any motorhome or trailer you'll find on RVezy, whether it's a campervan, Class C, or a 35-foot fifth wheel. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform before your trip. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), usually under $20 from your local auto association. That's it, you're cleared to hit the Mirror Lake Highway.
dot.state.wy.us/home/driver_license_records.htmlIs my RV rental in Mountain View protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Mountain View, WY booked on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out toward Flaming Gorge or the Uintas with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage tier at checkout (not the host), so you control how much financial cushion you want. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful protection for the bumps, scrapes, or windshield chips that can happen on Wyoming's gravel forest roads. Pro tip: if you plan to tow or drive on unpaved roads near Lonetree, pick the higher tier for extra comfort.

After that, refunds depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit so you are not left stranded. Because the policy is handled at the platform level, you get consistent treatment across every listing. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for summer in Mountain View, and reach out to RVezy support if plans change so they can walk you through your options.

Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rentals in Mountain View, WY welcome dogs (and sometimes cats), so your four-legged hiking buddy can come along. Just flip on the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see only listings that allow pets, and message the host with your dog's size and breed to confirm. Wyoming is a dream for dog owners: leashed pets are welcome on most Ashley and Bridger-Teton National Forest trails, at Bear River State Park in nearby Evanston, and around Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, the high-altitude sun and dry air around 6,700 feet can dehydrate pups faster than they are used to back home.
fs.usda.gov/r4/ashleyCan a host deliver the RV to me in Mountain View, WY?
Yes, RV delivery in Mountain View is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're flying into Salt Lake City and renting a car to the area, or if you'd rather skip driving a big rig yourself. Many local hosts will deliver right to Lyman, Fort Bridger, Robb Memorial Park, or campgrounds around Flaming Gorge and the Uintas. They'll level the RV, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy and enter your destination address to see exact delivery fees up front. Pro tip: delivery is gold for first-time renters because you skip towing and parking stress entirely.
travelwyoming.com/How far can I drive on an RV road trip from Mountain View, WY?

Pro tip: filter for unlimited mileage if you're planning to hit both Flaming Gorge and the Tetons in one trip.
nps.gov/grte/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Mountain View, WY?

Top picks include: Buckboard Crossing Campground on Flaming Gorge Reservoir (full hookups, boat ramp, stunning red-rock views), Firehole Canyon Campground (also on Flaming Gorge, great swimming beach), Bear River State Park in Evanston (full hookups, walking trails, herds of bison and elk on-site), Stateline Reservoir Campgrounds in the High Uintas, and Robb Memorial Park right in Mountain View for a budget overnight. Pro tip: Buckboard and Firehole are managed by the US Forest Service via Recreation.gov, so reserve six months out for July and August weekends.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725How do I book campgrounds for my Mountain View RV trip?
Most public campgrounds near Mountain View, WY use Recreation.gov, the official federal reservation system, including Buckboard Crossing, Firehole Canyon, and the rest of Flaming Gorge's developed sites. Bear River State Park reservations go through Wyoming State Parks' online portal. Sites open up six months in advance on a rolling daily basis at 8 a.m. Mountain Time, so set a calendar alert if you're targeting a July weekend. Private RV parks in Lyman, Fort Bridger, and Evanston typically take direct phone bookings and have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: midweek nights (Sunday through Wednesday) at Flaming Gorge are often wide open even in peak summer, so flex your dates and save the hassle.
recreation.gov/I'm a first-time renter, what should I know before driving an RV around Mountain View?
You've got this. First time renting an RV is way less intimidating than it sounds, especially around Mountain View, WY, where roads are wide, traffic is light, and pull-through parking is the norm. Every RVezy host does a full walkthrough at pickup: leveling, propane, slide-outs, dump valves, the works. You can ask as many questions as you want, and most hosts share a video or PDF you can reference on the road. Stick to Class C motorhomes or travel trailers under 25 feet for your first trip, they're easy to handle on I-80 and Highway 414. Pro tip: practice a few right turns in an empty parking lot in Lyman before heading up to Mirror Lake Highway's switchbacks.
dot.state.wy.us/What if I have a breakdown or roadside issue during my trip?
Breathe easy: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with the RVezy renter protection plan on every booking, so help is one phone call away whether you are at Flaming Gorge, on the Mirror Lake Highway, or pulled over on I-80 near Lyman. Roadside covers things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Cell service is solid in town and along I-80, but it gets spotty in the High Uintas, so download offline maps before you head into the backcountry. Your host is also a great first call for quirky RV questions. Pro tip: snap a photo of your RV's VIN and license plate on your phone, it makes roadside calls faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Mountain View RV rental into Utah or other nearby states?
Yes, you can absolutely cross into Utah, Idaho, Colorado, or Montana with most RVezy rentals from Mountain View, WY, and many trips do exactly that. The Utah border is just 15 minutes south of town, so Flaming Gorge, Mirror Lake Highway, and Salt Lake City are all easy interstate trips. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage don't extend there. Trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the host, so message them directly before booking if Banff or Glacier are on your radar. Pro tip: confirm your route with the host in the RVezy message thread so it's documented and everyone's aligned.
travel.state.gov/What kind of fuel mileage and gas costs should I budget for?
Realistic numbers help you plan: Class C motorhomes around Mountain View average 8 to 12 mpg, Class A gas rigs 6 to 10 mpg, campervans 14 to 20 mpg, and a half-ton truck towing a travel trailer about 9 to 13 mpg. Wyoming gas prices typically run slightly below the national average, and you'll find stations in Mountain View, Lyman, Fort Bridger, and Evanston. For a 4-night Flaming Gorge loop covering roughly 250 miles, budget about $120 to $180 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Evanston before heading into the Uintas, prices climb noticeably once you cross into Utah's resort corridor.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/What are driving conditions like around Mountain View, WY?
Driving around Mountain View is refreshingly easy: I-80, Highway 414, and Highway 410 are all well-maintained, wide-shouldered, and rarely congested, perfect for first-time RVers. The main thing to watch is wind, southwestern Wyoming gets steady crosswinds, especially on I-80 between Lyman and Evanston, so reduce speed when gusts pick up. Elevation here sits around 6,700 feet, and Mirror Lake Highway climbs above 10,000 feet, so engines and brakes work harder than at sea level. Winter brings snow and occasional I-80 closures (check WYDOT's 511 system before driving October to April). Pro tip: bookmark wyoroad.info on your phone for real-time road conditions, locals check it every morning.

Most Class C and Class A rigs include a generator for off-grid stays in the Uintas, and many hosts add a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and a Wi-Fi hotspot (signal varies in the mountains). Pickup is usually at the host's home in Mountain View, Lyman, or Fort Bridger, with delivery available for a flat or per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary: many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, while others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: ask your host about a Flaming Gorge add-on bundle, kayak rack plus camp chairs is a popular combo for that lake.
fs.usda.gov/main/ashley/homeHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card at booking, never directly to the host, which keeps everything documented and protected. A security deposit is placed as a temporary hold on your card before pickup (the amount depends on the rig and your chosen protection level) and is released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in the same condition. To avoid surprises, take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, return with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement, and follow the mileage and pet rules in the listing. Pro tip: empty the black and gray tanks before drop-off if your host requires it, that is the most common deposit deduction nationwide.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Mountain View during the winter?
Yes, winter RV rental in Mountain View, WY is possible and can be a magical experience if you're chasing snow, ice fishing on Flaming Gorge, or snowmobiling in the Uintas. Fewer hosts list in winter (roughly November through March), but those who do typically offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and extra propane. Daytime highs in January average 28F with lows around 5F, so shore power or a strong furnace is essential. Most winter trips use delivery to a private driveway or a hookup site at Bear River State Park, which stays open year-round. Pro tip: filter for delivery, ask the host specifically about heated tanks and freeze protection, and pack base layers, this is real winter country.
weather.gov/riw/Where can I legally park an RV overnight in Mountain View, WY?
Knowing where to park an RV in Mountain View is easy because Uinta County is RV-friendly. Designated overnight spots include Bear River State Park (Evanston, full hookups, year-round), Robb Memorial Park near downtown Mountain View for short stays, Buckboard Crossing and Firehole Canyon at Flaming Gorge, and dispersed camping (free, up to 14 nights) on Bridger-Teton and Ashley National Forest land, which surrounds the area. Walmart and Sinclair lots in Evanston sometimes allow overnight stays with manager permission. Parking overnight on residential streets in town is not permitted. Pro tip: dispersed camping on Forest Service roads above Lonetree gives you Uinta Mountain views for free, just pack out everything and use existing fire rings.
