Anthony Creek Horse Camp - Great Smoky Mountains National Park — RV Camping in Townsend, TN

Nestled at the gateway to Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Townsend, Tennessee, Anthony Creek Horse Camp is a dedicated equestrian campground offering direct access to some of the park's most scenic backcountry. Located approximately 30 miles southeast of Maryville and just beyond the Cades Cove picnic area, this rustic camp provides three campsites each equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, tent pads, and four horse hitch racks — making it an ideal base for riders exploring the Anthony Creek Trail and surrounding network of horse-friendly paths. Vault toilets are available on-site, and natural stream water is accessible for horses. The camp sits within the lush southern Appalachian landscape of the Smokies, offering a peaceful, forested setting far from crowded tourist areas. Hikers and riders alike will appreciate the proximity to Cades Cove, one of the most visited and historically rich areas in the national park, as well as miles of trails winding through old-growth forest and mountain meadows. Reservations are required and can be made through Recreation.gov. Note that no potable drinking water is available on-site, so campers should plan accordingly.
