Hartford Beach State Park is a scenic campground nestled along the wooded shoreline of Big Stone Lake in northeastern South Dakota, approximately 15 miles north of Milbank off SD Highway 15. Formed by glacial runoff over 10,000 years ago, the lake is framed by rugged, rock-strewn bluffs and shaded timber — creating a stunning natural backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts. The park offers 89 campsites with electrical and water hookups, 30-amp service, pull-through sites for big rigs, a dump station, showers, restrooms, grills, and picnic tables. A boat launch provides direct access to Big Stone Lake, where anglers can target walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, perch, and crappie. Five hiking and nature trails wind through the park, including the Robar Trail, which passes a historic 19th-century log cabin trading post and ancient American Indian mound sites. Additional activities include disc golf, a 28-target archery trail, kayaking, paddleboarding, and wildlife watching. Leashed pets are welcome throughout the park. Firewood is available on-site, and the campground includes a playground for families.
