2023 Ford Campervan
The van was very similar to driving a car. Tyler was available by phone and text, though we didn't need much help as he provided detailed instructions and everything was well designed and easy to operate. The pick up and drop off were great too as he was very flexible. We had a great time and the dog loved it too!

Renting this RV was a positive experience. Bryan and his wife made the process incredibly smooth, providing a very upkept RV. Though I only needed it overnight, (for an event) it was very well stocked with everything needed for an extended trip. I marked 5 stars for communication because he was so helpful and excellent to ensure everything went smoothly. This of course made pickup/drop-off a breeze, and the RV drove beautifully. HIGHLY recommended for a hassle-free, comfortable adventure. Thanks again Bryan.

Beautiful, clean, well appointed and easy to drive RV with intuitive controls. J was easy to reach and very helpful. Drove from Michigan to North Carolina and back in snow in gusting winds and I didn’t have to fight the vehicle to stay on the road. Visibility was superb. I highly recommend and would rent this RV again

Paul was great to deal with. He was flexible on pick up and drop off times, gave me a good walk through of the trailer as I picked it up and though i didnt need to call him, he made himself available for any questions while we were on our trip. The trailer was perfect, comfortable and no issues at all.

We had such a great time with Ken’s RV. We traveled to Michigan to race our boat on Lake Erie. The yacht club allowed camping and my crew and I decided to do it in style! We were the envy of every other boat. Clean, roomy. AC when it got warm. Furnace for cool mornings. The awning was a great bonus in the afternoon. A short walk to our dock or to the club house locker room. A terrific value. Thanks Ken!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Amherstburg, ON

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Amherstburg, ON?

RV rental in Amherstburg is one of the more affordable ways to explore southwestern Ontario. On RVezy, towable trailers near Amherstburg average around $125 CAD per night, while motorhomes typically run about $225 CAD per night, with many hosts offering weekly and monthly discounts. To save more on your Amherstburg RV trip, travel in late May, early June, or September, when demand dips after Point Pelee's spring bird migration rush. Pro tip: filter by 'Instant Book' and message hosts mid-week, when they're more likely to offer custom discounts on a cheap RV rental in Amherstburg.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Amherstburg?

Great news for first-timers: a regular Ontario G-class driver's licence (or its equivalent from your home province, state, or country) is all you need to rent an RV in Amherstburg. No special RV endorsement, air-brake ticket, or commercial licence is required for the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers most commonly listed on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your local auto club before you fly in, pair it with your home licence, and you're cleared to hit Highway 18 along the Detroit River.

Is my RV rental in Amherstburg protected if something goes wrong?

Yes, and that's one of the best parts of booking an RV rental in Amherstburg through RVezy. Every booking automatically includes a renter protection plan that covers physical damage to the RV plus 24/7 roadside assistance, no matter where your trip takes you, from the Cypher Systems Group Greenway to the shores of Lake Erie. During checkout you choose your level of coverage (not the host), so you can pick the peace-of-mind tier that fits your budget. Add a quick walk-around video at pickup and you're set for a stress-free Amherstburg RV trip.

What happens if I need to cancel my Amherstburg RV booking?

Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Amherstburg. You get a grace period right after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that window, your refund amount depends on how far out from the trip you cancel. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you in full or provides travel credits so your plans aren't left in limbo. You can review the full policy any time in the RVezy Help Center before you confirm.

Can I bring my dog on an RV rental in Amherstburg?

Yes, plenty of hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots, and Amherstburg is genuinely one of the most dog-friendly small towns in Essex County. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Amherstburg, just toggle the 'Pet-Friendly' filter on RVezy and message the host about your dog's size and any shedding considerations. Once you're on the road, dogs are welcome on-leash along the Navy Yard waterfront trail, at Holiday Beach Conservation Area, and on most trails inside Point Pelee National Park (just not the swimming beach at the Tip). Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, the lakeshore breeze is great, but summer humidity in Essex County climbs fast.

Can the RV be delivered right to my campsite in Amherstburg?

Yes, and it's the easiest way to start your trip, especially if you're a first-time renter. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Amherstburg directly to Sun Retreats Amherstburg, Wildwood Golf and RV Resort, or even a friend's driveway near the Detroit River. The host parks the rig, levels it, hooks up power and water, and walks you through every system before handing over the keys, so all you do is unpack and start exploring. Use the 'Delivery' filter when browsing listings, then message the host with your campground address to confirm distance fees. It's the stress-free way to enjoy a motorhome rental in Amherstburg without ever towing or backing in.

How far can I drive from Amherstburg, and do rentals have unlimited mileage?

You've got serious range from Amherstburg, with Niagara Falls about 4 hours east, Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula roughly 5.5 hours northeast, Algonquin Provincial Park around 7 hours away, and Toronto about 4 hours up Highway 401. Many RVezy hosts include 100-200 km per day in the base rate, with extra kilometres priced around $0.30-$0.50. If you're planning a longer RV road trip from Amherstburg, filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage or message the host directly, plenty are happy to bundle a flat-rate package for cross-Ontario adventures. Pro tip: a loop through Prince Edward County wine country pairs perfectly with the Lake Erie North Shore wineries right at your doorstep.

Where are the best campgrounds near Amherstburg, ON?

You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Amherstburg. Sun Retreats Amherstburg (formerly the Yogi Bear park) sits just minutes from downtown with 300+ shaded sites and family activities. Willowood RV Resort offers a big pool complex, mini-golf, and full hookups close to Fort Malden. Holiday Beach Conservation Area is a birder's dream right on Lake Erie, while Wildwood Golf and RV Resort in nearby Essex pairs camping with 18 holes. About an hour east, Wheatley Provincial Park gives you classic Ontario Parks lakefront sites. Pro tip: most local campgrounds open mid-April and close mid-October, so book Sun Retreats and Willowood weekends by March for the best lakeshore pads.

When is the best time of year to plan an Amherstburg RV trip?

Amherstburg sits in Canada's banana belt, so you've got one of the longest RV seasons in the country, roughly mid-April through late October. July and August are peak, with daytime highs around 27-30°C and warm Lake Erie swimming. The smart-money windows are May (when Point Pelee's world-famous spring bird migration draws birders from across North America) and September-early October, when wineries are harvesting, crowds thin out, and overnight lows stay in the comfortable 10-15°C range. Winter rentals are rare here since most campgrounds close by October 15. Pro tip: book the second weekend of May for the Festival of Birds at Point Pelee, it's the bucket-list shoulder-season event.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know how to use it?

You'll be in great hands, this is exactly why RVezy works so well for first-timers. Every Amherstburg host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the propane, fresh water, grey/black tanks, slide-outs, awning, generator, and dashboard quirks. You can message your host any question before booking, and most are local Essex County RVers who genuinely love showing newcomers the ropes. Once you're rolling, 24/7 RVezy roadside support is one tap away. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Amherstburg for your first trip, they drive much like a large van and park easily at Sun Retreats or the Navy Yard waterfront lot.
ontario.ca/page/driving-recreational-vehicles

What if I break down on the way to Point Pelee or Niagara?

You're covered. 24/7 roadside assistance is built into every RVezy booking through the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 3 or a dead battery at Holiday Beach is just a phone call away from being fixed. Before you pull out of Amherstburg, save the RVezy support number in your phone and snap a photo of the RV's VIN plate. Your host is also just a message away and usually knows the best local mobile mechanic in Essex County. Pro tip: top up your washer fluid before heading to Point Pelee, the Lake Erie bug splatter on Highway 18 is legendary in late spring.

Can I drive my Amherstburg RV rental across the border into the U.S.?

Yes, in most cases you can, and Amherstburg's location 25 minutes from the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel makes cross-border trips genuinely easy. You'll need to message your host first to get written permission and confirm their insurance covers U.S. travel; many Amherstburg hosts say yes for trips to Michigan, Ohio, and beyond. Bring your passport, vehicle registration, the host's signed travel authorization letter, and proof of insurance to the border. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: a quick cross-river loop to Detroit's Belle Isle or down to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio (about 2.5 hours) is a hugely popular Amherstburg RV trip add-on.

How much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Amherstburg?

Fuel is one of the biggest variables, but it's predictable once you plan. Class B campervans around Amherstburg average 18-22 mpg (about 11-13 L/100km), Class C motorhomes run 10-14 mpg (17-23 L/100km), and big Class A rigs sit around 7-10 mpg. Ontario gas prices typically hover around $1.55-$1.75 CAD per litre in Essex County, with the cheapest stations usually clustered near the Walmart on Sandwich Street South in Amherstburg or just over the border in Michigan if you're heading stateside. Pro tip: fill up before crossing into the U.S. only if Canadian prices are lower that week, otherwise Michigan diesel is often a bargain for an RV road trip from Amherstburg.
ontario.ca/page/gas-prices

How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Amherstburg?

The earlier the better, especially for the marquee spots. Point Pelee National Park's oTENTik and group sites open through the Parks Canada Reservation Service five months in advance and sell out within hours for May migration weekends. Wheatley Provincial Park and Rondeau Provincial Park book through the Ontario Parks reservation system up to five months ahead, and prime July-August weekends often fill the day reservations open. Private parks like Sun Retreats Amherstburg, Willowood RV Resort, and Wildwood Golf and RV Resort typically accept bookings 6-12 months out. Pro tip: if you strike out, set a calendar reminder for Tuesday mornings, that's when most cancellations get released back into the Ontario Parks system.

What are local roads and driving conditions like around Amherstburg?

Driving here is refreshingly easy, Essex County is flat, the roads are straight, and traffic is light compared to Toronto or Montreal. Highway 18 along the Detroit River, County Road 20 through wine country, and Highway 3 toward Leamington are the main RV-friendly routes. Watch for two things: spring and fall fog rolling in off Lake Erie (especially on County Road 50 near Colchester), and the occasional low railway bridge in downtown Windsor, stick to the Herb Gray Parkway/E.C. Row Expressway for tall rigs. Pro tip: avoid the Ambassador Bridge during weekday rush hours (7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.) if you're returning a rental from a U.S. trip, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel restricts RVs anyway.
ontario.ca/page/road-conditions-and-closures

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Amherstburg?

Local campgrounds make RV life easy. Sun Retreats Amherstburg and Willowood RV Resort offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups on many sites, hot showers, laundry, pools, and Wi-Fi. Wildwood Golf and RV Resort adds full hookups plus on-site golf. Provincial parks like Wheatley and Rondeau provide electrical sites, comfort stations, and centrally located dump stations included with your stay. For fresh water fills and dumping on the road, the Esso on Sandwich Street and several Essex County conservation areas have public dump stations, usually $10-$15 for non-campers. Pro tip: confirm your site's amp rating before arrival, some shaded older sites at Sun Retreats are 30-amp only, which means running just one AC unit during July heat.
ontarioparks.ca/park/wheatley

What's actually inside a typical Amherstburg RV rental?

You'll be impressed by how loaded these rigs come. A typical motorhome rental in Amherstburg includes a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, three-burner propane stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4-8 people, a furnace, roof AC, and a dinette that converts to extra sleeping space. Most include a TV, and many Amherstburg hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, generators, and even kayaks or bikes as add-ons. Travel trailers and fifth wheels offer similar layouts but need a properly rated tow vehicle. Every passenger gets a seatbelt while driving. Pro tip: ask your host if the RV has a built-in inverter, it lets you run the coffee maker at a quiet Holiday Beach morning without firing up the generator.
tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/motor-vehicle-safety

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Hosts in Amherstburg make customizing your trip simple. Popular add-ons include linen and kitchen kits ($30-$75), generator use ($3-$5 per hour), bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, and propane fills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Amherstburg, McGregor, or Essex, with delivery to local campgrounds like Sun Retreats or Wildwood often available for a flat fee based on distance. Mileage policies typically allow 100-200 km per day with extras at $0.30-$0.50/km, and many hosts will negotiate unlimited kilometres for longer family RV trips in Amherstburg. Pro tip: bundle delivery + setup + linens up front, it's almost always cheaper than buying them piecemeal and gets your trip started faster.

How do payments and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through the RVezy platform, no cash, e-transfers, or side deals with hosts. You pay with a credit card at booking, and your security deposit is placed as a temporary hold on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment. As long as the RV comes back in the condition it left in, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walk-around video with the host at both pickup and drop-off, follow the mileage and generator limits, and dump tanks before return if your rental agreement requires it. Transparent and protected from start to finish on your Amherstburg RV rental.
