🌄 Our First RV Adventure—10 Days of Fun & Freedom! - This was our very first RV vacation, and while we were a little hesitant at first, Bill made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. He was incredibly helpful—available before, during, and even after our trip to answer questions and offer support. His thorough walkthrough before we hit the road gave us confidence, especially with tips on what to do in different situations. We took the RV for 10 days from South Florida to the mountains of Maryland, stopping at six different campgrounds and even plugging in at my sister’s and in-laws’ homes for a few nights. The RV had everything we needed and was in great shape—clean, well-equipped, and surprisingly easy to drive. We returned it with just a minor hubcap issue and no other problems, which felt like a blessing after such a big trip. We had an absolute blast and would highly recommend this RV to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and fun way to travel. Thanks again, Bill!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Gaithersburg, MD

How much does an RV rental in Gaithersburg cost?

RV rental in Gaithersburg is more affordable than you might expect, with motorhomes averaging around $200 a night and towable trailers near $120 a night on RVezy. Many hosts also offer 10 to 20 percent off for weekly or monthly bookings, so a Chesapeake or Shenandoah road trip stretches your budget further. To find a cheap RV rental in Gaithersburg, filter by price, travel mid-week, or book a smaller travel trailer instead of a Class A motorhome. Pro tip: shoulder seasons in April and late September offer the best combination of mild Mid-Atlantic weather and lower nightly rates from local hosts along the I-270 corridor.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Gaithersburg, MD?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Gaithersburg for nearly every rig on RVezy. Maryland only requires a non-commercial Class B license for motorhomes with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 26,001 pounds, and the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers fall well under that threshold. You'll also need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license and you're set to hit Skyline Drive.

What happens if I need to cancel my Gaithersburg RV trip?

Booking an RV rental in Gaithersburg is lower-risk than most travelers assume. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. The cancellation policy is not displayed on individual listings because it is standardized across the platform. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help you get a full refund or travel credit so your trip plans stay on track. The RVezy support team can also assist if a major weather event affects the Mid-Atlantic. Book the dates you want now, knowing flexibility is built into every booking.

Can I bring my dog on my Gaithersburg RV rental?

Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Gaithersburg welcome dogs and cats. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who allow furry travelers, sometimes for a small cleaning fee. Once you're on the road, Maryland is fantastic for pets: Seneca Creek State Park has miles of leashed-dog trails just minutes from downtown Gaithersburg, and Little Bennett Regional Park in Clarksburg allows leashed pets at campsites. Greenbelt Park, a National Park Service campground about 25 miles south, is also pet-friendly with leashed dogs welcome on trails and in the campground. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet rules for a smooth pickup.

Can I get an RV delivered to my campground in Gaithersburg?

Yes, RV delivery in Gaithersburg is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV to your campground, your driveway, or even an event venue, then handle the full setup including leveling, hookups, and a walkthrough. Popular delivery destinations include Little Bennett Regional Park in Clarksburg, Cherry Hill Park in College Park, and Ramblin' Pines in Woodbine. Delivery fees vary by distance and rig size, so check listings or message hosts directly. It's the easiest way to skip the stress of driving a big motorhome through Montgomery County traffic.

You can cover serious ground on a Gaithersburg RV trip, and many local hosts offer generous mileage allowances or even RV rental with unlimited mileage. (about 25 miles), Harpers Ferry, WV (about 60 miles), Gettysburg, PA (about 55 miles), Shenandoah National Park (about 90 miles to the north entrance), Assateague Island National Seashore (about 150 miles), and Ocean City, MD (about 155 miles). Check each listing's mileage policy before booking, and message the host if your itinerary runs long. Where are the best campgrounds near Gaithersburg for RV camping?

You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping near Gaithersburg. Little Bennett Regional Park in Clarksburg (10 miles north) is the closest full-service option, with wooded sites, electric hookups, and a jumping pillow for kids. Cherry Hill Park in College Park (25 miles southeast) is a top-rated commercial park with full hookups, a pool, and a shuttle to the D.C. Metro. Greenbelt Park (National Park Service, 25 miles south) offers shaded, no-hookup sites year-round at a low rate. Ramblin' Pines in Woodbine (25 miles north) is great for families. Insider tip: Little Bennett sites get snapped up fast for fall foliage weekends, so book early.

When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Gaithersburg?

Late April through mid-June and September through October are the sweet spots for RV camping in Gaithersburg. Spring brings mild temperatures in the 60s and 70s and blooming dogwoods along the C&O Canal, while fall delivers spectacular foliage in the Catoctin Mountains and crisp 50 to 70 degree days. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so look for an RV with strong air conditioning. Winter trips are possible too, with daytime temps typically in the 30s to 40s. Pro tip: October weekends at Little Bennett sell out months ahead for peak leaf-peeping.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Gaithersburg?

Don't worry, first time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, and Gaithersburg is a great place to start. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering generator, slide-outs, water, propane, and dump procedures, and you can text or call them throughout your trip with questions. Many local renters choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for their first outing because they drive much like a large van. If you're nervous about I-270 traffic or Beltway merges, request delivery so the RV is parked at your campground when you arrive. RVezy support is also a phone call away 24/7.

What if something breaks down during my Gaithersburg RV trip?

Breathe easy: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RV rental in Gaithersburg through RVezy, so a flat tire on I-70 or a dead battery at a Shenandoah overlook won't derail your trip. One call connects you with help for towing, jump-starts, lockouts, tire changes, and fuel delivery anywhere in the U.S. For mechanical or appliance issues inside the RV, your host is your first call: they know their rig inside and out and can usually walk you through fixes like resetting the inverter or relighting the propane fridge. RVezy's support team is also available around the clock if you need backup.

What are the best RV road trips from Gaithersburg?

An RV road trip from Gaithersburg unlocks some of the East Coast's best scenery. Head west 75 miles to Shenandoah National Park for the 105-mile Skyline Drive and Big Meadows Campground. Drive 55 miles north to Gettysburg, PA, for Civil War history and the Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA. Cruise 35 miles to Harpers Ferry, WV, where three states meet at the Potomac. Or aim east 150 miles to Assateague Island National Seashore to camp beside wild horses on the Atlantic. Cross-border trips into Canada are possible with host approval, but Mexico travel is not covered. Pro tip: combine Harpers Ferry and Antietam in one weekend loop, it's only 30 miles between them.
nps.gov/hafe/index.htm

How much should I budget for fuel on a Gaithersburg RV trip?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on a motorhome rental in Gaithersburg, but it's easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class A's get 6 to 8, and campervans and small trailers often hit 12 to 18 mpg. Maryland gas prices typically run close to the national average, with diesel slightly higher. For a 300-mile round trip to Shenandoah in a Class C, plan on roughly 30 to 40 gallons. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fuel up just before you cross into West Virginia, where prices are often a few cents lower than along I-270.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Gaithersburg?

For the best campgrounds near Gaithersburg, book as early as you can, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage in October. Maryland state parks like Little Bennett and Greenbrier release reservations up to a year in advance through the Maryland Park Service reservation system, and popular weekends fill within days of opening. National Park Service campgrounds at Greenbelt and Catoctin Mountain use Recreation.gov with a six-month booking window. Private parks like Cherry Hill Park and Ramblin' Pines book through their own sites and often have more last-minute availability. Insider tip: weekday stays at Little Bennett are usually wide open even in peak season, perfect for a quieter RV camping experience.

What's driving an RV around Gaithersburg actually like?

Gaithersburg is friendlier to RV drivers than the D.C. metro area as a whole, but a little planning goes a long way. I-270 is your main artery north toward Frederick and south toward the Beltway (I-495), and traffic peaks weekdays 7 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., so aim to roll out mid-morning. Avoid the Clara Barton Parkway and Rock Creek Parkway entirely: both ban commercial and recreational vehicles. Watch for low clearances on older bridges in downtown D.C. if you head south. Summer thunderstorms can drop heavy rain quickly. Pro tip: use the RV Life or CoPilot GPS app to route around any low bridges and weight-restricted roads.
roads.maryland.gov/Index.aspx?PageId=131

What hookups and amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Gaithersburg?

Campgrounds near Gaithersburg run the full range from primitive to luxury. Cherry Hill Park in College Park offers 50-amp full hookups (water, sewer, electric), Wi-Fi, a pool, and a dog park. Little Bennett Regional Park has electric-only sites with a central dump station and potable water fill, plus modern bathhouses. Greenbelt Park (NPS) is no-hookup with a dump station and water spigots throughout the loops. Ramblin' Pines in Woodbine has full-hookup pull-throughs. Most parks accept big rigs, but always check site length when booking. Pro tip: even at no-hookup sites, an RV's freshwater tank and generator (where allowed) easily cover a long weekend, so don't rule out the more scenic state and national park options.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htm

What's inside a typical Gaithersburg RV rental?

Today's RV rentals in Gaithersburg come ready to live in. Expect a real bed (or two or three) with linens often included as an add-on, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with roof-mounted air conditioning and propane furnace, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Many rigs include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator for off-grid power. Class B campervans pack the essentials into a smaller footprint, while Class C and Class A motorhomes add slide-outs for extra living space. Each RVezy listing lists exactly what's included, so you'll know before you book whether Wi-Fi, bikes, or camp chairs come along.
rvia.org/news-insights/rv-types

What add-ons and pickup options do Gaithersburg RV hosts typically offer?

Most Gaithersburg hosts offer a menu of helpful add-ons to customize your trip: linens and towels, kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, bikes, generators, propane refills, Starlink or mobile Wi-Fi, and pet packages. Pickup is usually from the host's location, often along the I-270 corridor between Rockville and Frederick, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation walkthrough. Many hosts also offer RV delivery in Gaithersburg to nearby campgrounds or to BWI, Dulles, or Reagan National airports for a fee. Mileage policies typically range from 100 to 150 free miles per night, with overages around $0.30 to $0.45 per mile. Pro tip: bundle linens and a generator package when booking, it's almost always cheaper than buying them separately.

How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment for your RV rental in Gaithersburg is handled securely through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to the host. You'll pay the rental total plus taxes and fees at booking, and a refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, typically as a pre-authorization on your card before pickup. As long as you return the RV in the condition you received it with fuel and tanks per the listing, the deposit is released after the trip. To avoid surprises: take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's fuel and dump-station instructions, and message any concerns through RVezy so there's a clear record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I take my Gaithersburg RV rental to Washington D.C. or across state lines?

Yes, interstate travel is one of the best perks of an RV road trip from Gaithersburg. You're free to explore D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and beyond on a standard RVezy booking, all included under the protection plan. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed with prior host approval and confirmation that insurance extends, so message the host before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance coverage does not extend there. Inside D.C., park the RV at a campground like Cherry Hill and take Metro downtown: parkways like Rock Creek, Clara Barton, and George Washington Memorial ban RVs and other recreational vehicles.
