"Story" was a great RV and Joshua was an amazing host. This was our first time traveling in an RV and Joshua was very patient in answering all of our questions. He provided a very thorough orientation. The RV was fully equipped with everything we needed including kitchen/bath items, camping chairs, linens, etc. Everything was clean, well maintained, and exactly as described. We were able to boondock without any issues. Communication with Joshua was amazing and I highly recommend this rental.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Pennsylvania?

Good news: a regular Pennsylvania driver's license is all you need for almost every RV on RVezy. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class B license for motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of rentals, including campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers, fall well under that threshold. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID is verified inside the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. Most first-time renters in New Kensington are surprised how quickly the paperwork wraps up so they can hit the road.

What protection is included when I book an RV rental in New Kensington?

Every RVezy booking comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right in, so you can pull out of New Kensington feeling covered. The protection plan helps shield you from most accidental damage to the vehicle, and you choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, giving you control over your peace of mind. Roadside assistance is included on every trip, whether you get a flat on Route 28 or need a tow near the Allegheny River. This is substantial financial protection designed specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals. Pro tip: read each coverage tier carefully and pick what fits your route and comfort level.

What is the cancellation policy if my plans change?

Plans change, and RVezy is built with that in mind. Every booking is backed by an RVezy cancellation policy (not set by hosts) that includes a money-back grace period right after you book, so committing to that New Kensington RV trip feels low-risk. Refund amounts after the grace period depend on how far out you cancel from the pickup date. The full details are available on the RVezy Help Center and shown during checkout so you can see exactly where you stand before confirming. Pro tip: book a little earlier than you think you need to, since flexibility windows are most generous when there are weeks between booking and pickup.

Can I bring my dog on an RV rental in New Kensington?

Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in New Kensington is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching and you'll see listings from local hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) along for the ride. Pennsylvania state parks like Keystone State Park and Moraine State Park allow leashed pets at designated campsites, and the Roaring Run Trail in nearby Apollo is a favorite leash-friendly walk for visiting pups. Some hosts charge a small pet fee or ask that pets stay off furniture, so message the host before booking to confirm. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and a copy of vaccination records, which a few Pennsylvania campgrounds request at check-in.

Can a host deliver the RV to my campground or home in New Kensington?

Yes, RV delivery in New Kensington is one of the most popular options on RVezy and a game-changer for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the RV straight to your driveway, a nearby campground, or a state park like Keystone State Park about 35 minutes east. They'll level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system so you never have to back a trailer or worry about hitching. Delivery fees vary by distance, so filter by Delivery and message a couple of hosts for quotes. Pro tip: delivery pairs beautifully with a stationary campground stay, turning your rental into a cozy cabin on wheels.

How far can I drive on a typical RV rental, and what's the mileage policy?

That's plenty of range for popular routes from New Kensington: Ohiopyle State Park and Fallingwater are about 75 miles southeast, Cook Forest State Park is around 90 miles north, Presque Isle State Park in Erie is about 130 miles, and Niagara Falls is roughly 220 miles. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state loop, search specifically for listings advertising unlimited mileage and message the host about your route so they can confirm everything works for both of you.

Where are the best campgrounds near New Kensington for RV camping?

RV camping near New Kensington gives you access to some of western Pennsylvania's best parks within an hour's drive. Top picks include Keystone State Park near Derry (about 35 miles east, with electric sites on a quiet lake), Pittsburgh SE/Madison KOA Holiday in Ruffs Dale (open seasonally with pull-thrus and Wi-Fi), Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Mill Run (great for families near Ohiopyle), and Raccoon Creek State Park west of Pittsburgh for forested sites and a swimming beach. Pro tip: book Pennsylvania state park sites through the official DCNR reservation system up to 11 months in advance for weekend and summer holiday stays.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from New Kensington?

Late spring through mid-October is the sweet spot for a New Kensington RV trip. May and June bring green hillsides, comfortable highs in the 70s, and fewer bugs than midsummer. July and August are warm with average highs in the low 80s Fahrenheit and ideal for swimming and floating the Youghiogheny. The real local secret is late September into mid-October, when the Laurel Highlands light up with fall foliage and daytime temps hover in the comfortable 60s. Winter rentals are limited because January lows can drop below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Pro tip: book Ohiopyle and Cook Forest area sites by March if you want prime fall-foliage weekends.

I've never rented an RV before. Is it really doable as a first-timer?

Yes, first time renting an RV is much easier than it looks, especially in New Kensington where most hosts go above and beyond on the walkthrough. Your host will typically spend 30 to 60 minutes at pickup showing you how to operate the propane, water, slide-outs, generator, and dump valves, plus they're a quick text away during your entire trip. RVezy's 24/7 roadside assistance is also there if anything unexpected happens on the road. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan for your first trip, book a stationary stay at Keystone State Park for a few nights, and add delivery so you can skip the driving learning curve entirely on round one.

What happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?

You're covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is one phone call away whether you're 10 minutes from New Kensington or deep in the Allegheny National Forest. Roadside assistance handles tire changes, jump starts, fuel delivery, lockouts, and towing to a qualified service center. Your host is also your second line of support since they know their RV best and can usually troubleshoot small issues over text. RVezy's customer support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip too. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the host's driveway and snap a photo of the VIN so any service call moves twice as fast.

Can I take my New Kensington RV rental to other states or into Canada?

Interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, and a New Kensington base puts you within a day's drive of Niagara Falls, NY (around 220 miles), Washington, DC (about 245 miles), and Cleveland, OH (around 135 miles). Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the insurance terms, so message the host directly from the listing page to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: an RV road trip from New Kensington to Niagara Falls via Erie and Presque Isle State Park is a classic 4-day loop that locals love.

What should I budget for fuel on a Pennsylvania RV trip?

Fuel is usually the second-biggest cost after the rental itself, and it's very manageable on a Pennsylvania trip. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average in the New Kensington area. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 16 to 20 MPG for a campervan, and 12 to 16 MPG for the tow vehicle on a travel trailer. A 300-mile weekend in a Class C usually runs about $90 to $140 in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: fill up at the Sheetz or GetGo stations along Route 28 before heading into the Laurel Highlands, where rural prices can climb 20 to 40 cents per gallon.

How far in advance should I book a campground near New Kensington?

For Pennsylvania state parks, you can reserve campsites up to 11 months in advance through the official DCNR reservation system, and that head start matters. For summer weekends, Memorial Day, July 4th, and fall foliage weekends in October, plan to book Keystone, Ohiopyle, and Raccoon Creek state parks at least 4 to 6 months ahead. Private parks like Pittsburgh SE/Madison KOA and Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Mill Run usually have more flexibility but still fill fast for holiday weekends. Mid-week stays often open up just a few weeks out. Pro tip: if your dream site is sold out, set a free alert on Campnab and you'll often catch a cancellation within days.

What are driving conditions like in and around New Kensington?

Driving an RV around New Kensington is straightforward once you know the local quirks. Route 28 is the main artery into Pittsburgh and handles RVs easily, while the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) is a smooth way to head east toward the Laurel Highlands. Watch for low clearances on a few older bridges in downtown Pittsburgh, and avoid the narrow Squirrel Hill Tunnel approach during rush hour. Winter brings snow and ice from late November through March, so most renters stick to April through October. Pro tip: route around Pittsburgh on I-376 or the Turnpike rather than through it, and you'll cut stress in half. The motorhome rental New Kensington crowd often heads east on Route 22 toward the mountains for the smoothest scenery drive.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near New Kensington?

Most campgrounds within an hour of New Kensington offer the full setup you'd hope for. Pennsylvania state parks like Keystone, Moraine, and Raccoon Creek offer electric sites (with select full-hookup sites at some parks), plus modern bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, potable water fill stations, and on-site dump stations included with your stay. Private parks like Pittsburgh SE/Madison KOA add Wi-Fi, laundry, camp stores, and pools. If you need a dump station between trips, several truck stops along I-70 and I-76 south of New Kensington are reliable options. Pro tip: search the DCNR camping map to compare amenities at each Pennsylvania state park before you book.
