Taylor was a great host and had an awesome RV. They provided a detailed overview of the RV when we picked it up and had us on the road on the family trip! The RV size and layout was perfect for our family of 5, with the bunkroom being a nice space for the kids own room. The kitchen had everything we needed and they had the small touches that made a huge difference (bag of charcoal). Thank you for a great trip!

Nicholas was excellent with communication. He gladly answered all my questions without hesitation. The camper REALLY has all you would need for camping, including hand soap, dish soap and body wash. He hooked it all up for us so when we got there all we had to do was unpack. There were 5 of us and I thought we would fit without issue, however, it was tight. But we did not spend much time in there so it was ok. I would (and likely will) definitely rent from Nicholas again. We had a great time.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Cape Charles?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Cape Charles, VA. Virginia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes. To rent on RVezy you'll need to be 25 or older, hold a valid driver's license, and complete the platform's quick ID verification. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local automobile association. Most first-time renters are surprised at how straightforward it is, and your host will walk you through every system at pickup so you feel ready to roll.

What protection is included when I book an RV in Cape Charles?

Every booking on RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included, so you can cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel with confidence. You choose your preferred level of coverage during checkout (not the host), and the plan covers most damages to the RV during your trip. While it isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial peace of mind for renters new to a motorhome rental Cape Charles trip. If something unexpected happens, whether a flat tire on Route 13 or a question about your awning at Kiptopeke State Park, support is just a phone call away. That safety net is a big reason first-timers feel comfortable booking an RV rental in Cape Charles.

What if my plans change? Can I cancel my Cape Charles RV booking?

You have real flexibility. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Beyond that, refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel, which matters on the Eastern Shore where hurricane season runs June through November. The full policy details are spelled out at checkout so there are no surprises, and if a host ever cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit. The bottom line: booking your Cape Charles RV trip is low-risk, so if you've been eyeing that bayfront getaway for late September, go ahead and lock it in before the calendar fills up.

Can I bring my dog on a Cape Charles RV trip?

Yes, and Cape Charles is one of the most dog-friendly beach towns on the East Coast. Filter for pet-friendly RV rental Cape Charles options on RVezy and you'll find plenty of hosts who welcome dogs (some allow cats too). Cape Charles Beach permits leashed dogs year-round, and nearby Kiptopeke State Park has pet-friendly campsites plus miles of trails through coastal forest. Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge also allows leashed pets on its trails. Pro tip: bring a long stake-out leash for shaded RV-site lounging, and stop by Brown Dog Ice Cream on Mason Avenue, where well-behaved pups often get a free pup cup while you grab a scoop.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Cape Charles?

Yes, RV delivery Cape Charles is one of the most popular options, especially for first-time renters. Many hosts on RVezy will drive the RV to Kiptopeke State Park, Cherrystone Family Camping Resort, Sunset Beach RV Resort, or even a private property and set everything up: leveling, slide-outs, hookups, and a full orientation walkthrough. You just show up with your suitcase and cooler. Use the Delivery filter when searching to see hosts who offer this service and any associated fees (often based on distance from their location). It's a game-changer if you'd rather skip driving the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel in a 30-foot motorhome on day one.

How far can I drive on an RV road trip from Cape Charles?

You've got incredible range from Cape Charles. Assateague Island National Seashore with its famous wild ponies is about 75 miles north (roughly 1.5 hours) up Route 13. Virginia Beach sits 35 miles south across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, Colonial Williamsburg is around 80 miles southwest, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina are about 130 miles south. Look for listings with an RV rental with unlimited mileage policy, or check each host's daily mileage allowance and per-mile overage fee on the listing page. Pro tip: a classic Cape Charles RV trip loop hits Chincoteague, Cape Charles, and Virginia Beach in a long weekend, with the bridge-tunnel as the scenic finale.

Where are the best campgrounds near Cape Charles?

You're spoiled for choice for RV camping Cape Charles. Kiptopeke State Park, just 3 miles north of town, offers full-hookup sites, a fishing pier, and bay beach access. Cherrystone Family Camping Resort in Cheriton (about 7 miles north) is a massive bayfront resort with pools, mini-golf, and crabbing piers. Sunset Beach RV Resort sits right at the base of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel with stunning sunset views. Anchor Inn RV Park in Eastville is a smaller, quieter option about 12 miles north. Pro tip: Kiptopeke and Cherrystone fill up fast for summer weekends, so reserve as soon as you confirm your RV booking, especially for the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends.

When is the best time of year to take a Cape Charles RV trip?

Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV rental in Cape Charles, VA. May and June bring highs in the mid-70s to low 80s with lower humidity and bay water warming into the 70s. July and August peak around 86°F with high humidity and the warmest swimming, while September and October are an insider favorite: 70s by day, fewer crowds, and the Cape Charles Clam Slam plus fall fishing tournaments. Winters are chilly (highs in the mid-40s) but rarely snowy, so off-season bayfront stays are possible with the right rig. Pro tip: book a September trip to catch monarch butterfly migration at Kiptopeke State Park's hawk-watching platform.

I've never driven an RV before. Is Cape Charles a good place to start?

Cape Charles is genuinely one of the friendliest places for a first time renting an RV. The Eastern Shore is flat, traffic on Route 13 is light compared to mainland Virginia, and most campgrounds have wide pull-through sites that make parking easy. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering everything from the propane system to dumping tanks, and you can message them anytime during your trip. If the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel feels intimidating (it's 17.6 miles long with two tunnel sections), pick a host on the Eastern Shore side so you skip it entirely, or choose delivery. Pro tip: practice backing up in an empty parking lot before your first campsite arrival, you'll thank yourself.

What happens if I have a problem with the RV during my trip?

You're never on your own during a Cape Charles RV trip. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, battery jumps, lockouts, and towing. If something inside the RV acts up, like the fridge, AC, or a slide-out, your host is your first call and most will troubleshoot over the phone or text. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip. On the Eastern Shore, the closest major service centers are in Salisbury, MD (about 60 miles north) and Norfolk (about 35 miles south across the bridge-tunnel), and roadside techs serve Route 13 regularly.

Can I take my Cape Charles RV rental across state lines?

Yes, interstate travel is welcome and Cape Charles is a perfect launchpad for an RV road trip from Cape Charles. From here you can easily reach Maryland (Assateague, Ocean City), Delaware (Rehoboth and Bethany beaches), or head south to North Carolina's Outer Banks. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and listing, so message the host directly from the listing page if a longer northern road trip is on your radar. Pro tip: a popular loop runs north up Route 13 through Chincoteague to Assateague (about 1.5 hours), an easy first interstate run with a stunning payoff.

What kind of fuel mileage should I budget for in Cape Charles?

Plan smart and you'll keep fuel costs reasonable on your Cape Charles RV trip. Travel trailers and fifth wheels don't burn their own fuel, but your tow vehicle's MPG will typically drop 30 to 40 percent while towing. Class B campervans usually get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs come in around 6 to 10 MPG. Virginia gas prices generally sit close to the national average, and there are plenty of large-vehicle-friendly stations along Route 13 in Exmore, Eastville, and Cheriton. Pro tip: fill up before crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel since the round-trip toll adds up quickly, and check current toll rates on the official CBBT website before you go.
cbbt.com/tolls/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Cape Charles?

Book early and you'll have your pick of bayfront sites. Kiptopeke State Park reservations open 11 months in advance through the Virginia State Parks reservation system, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day) often sell out the day the window opens. Cherrystone Family Camping Resort books directly through its own site and typically fills June through August by early spring. Sunset Beach RV Resort also takes reservations months ahead for summer. For a spontaneous campervan rental Cape Charles weekend, target shoulder season (late April, May, September, October) when sites are easier to grab within a week or two. Pro tip: weeknights have far more availability than Friday and Saturday nights.

What are local driving conditions like around Cape Charles?

Driving around Cape Charles is wonderfully low-stress. Route 13 is the main two-lane highway running the length of the Eastern Shore, with a 55 MPH limit and wide shoulders, ideal for RVs. The town itself has quiet, grid-pattern streets, though some residential blocks are narrow, so larger rigs are best parked at your campground with shorter day-trip vehicles. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel restricts certain oversized loads during high winds, so check the Bridge-Tunnel's website before crossing in stormy weather. Hurricane season (June to November) can bring heavy rain and gusty winds, so monitor forecasts. Pro tip: avoid Route 13 northbound on Sunday afternoons in summer, when beach traffic heading back to Maryland and Pennsylvania backs up.

What amenities can I expect at Cape Charles campgrounds?

You'll find excellent infrastructure for RV camping Cape Charles. Cherrystone and Sunset Beach offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, camp stores, and beach access. Kiptopeke State Park has water and electric hookups, a centralized dump station, hot showers, and a fishing pier. Most parks have potable water fill stations near the entrance. For dumping mid-trip, Kiptopeke's dump station is open to registered campers, and Cherrystone offers it to guests. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-to-50-amp electrical adapter just in case (your host usually provides these, but doubles never hurt), and ask your host about the Cherrystone crabbing pier, an Eastern Shore classic for kids.

What's typically included inside a Cape Charles RV rental?

You'll be more comfortable than you'd expect on an RV rental in Cape Charles. Most RVezy listings include real beds (queen masters are common), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (AC and furnace), and dining seating. Many include a TV, and a growing number offer Wi-Fi hotspots or Starlink, helpful since cell coverage on parts of the Eastern Shore can be spotty. Larger motorhomes have seatbelts for passengers and onboard generators for off-grid stops. Every listing shows exactly what's included, and add-ons like linens, camp chairs, and outdoor grills are often available. Pro tip: ask about a beach kit, many Cape Charles hosts include chairs, an umbrella, and a cooler.

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

RVezy hosts in Cape Charles offer plenty of ways to customize your trip. Popular add-ons include bed and bath linens, kitchen kits, bikes, kayaks (perfect for Old Plantation Creek), generators, propane refills, and pet cleaning fees if you bring a dog. Pickup is usually at the host's property on the Eastern Shore, with most offering a 30-to-60-minute orientation walkthrough. Delivery and setup to local campgrounds is widely available. Mileage policies vary: many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per day with a modest per-mile overage fee, while some offer unlimited mileage packages, so check each listing. Pro tip: confirm dump-and-refill services in the listing, many hosts will handle waste tanks for you for a small fee at return.

How do payment and security deposits work for a Cape Charles RV rental?

Payment on RVezy is simple and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects you and ensures your booking is officially covered. A security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment, with the amount shown clearly at checkout (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV). It's released after return assuming no damage, missing items, or policy violations. To avoid any issues, document the RV's condition with photos at pickup and dropoff, return it with the agreed fuel and tank levels, and stay within your mileage allowance. Pro tip: keep your pre-return fuel receipt from a Route 13 station as proof of top-up.
