Trail of the Spirits is a roughly 1 mile interpretive loop and National Recreation Trail through the heart of Sica Hollow. The boardwalk and dirt path wind past bubbling springs, bogs, and red iron-stained streams tied to Dakota legend. Interpretive signs explain the geology and cultural history along the way.
The park maintains several miles of forested hiking trails through steep ravines and upland hardwoods. Routes connect to longer loops shared with equestrian users and offer some of the best woodland hiking in eastern South Dakota.
Sica Hollow features a dedicated horse trail system and a primitive horse camp with hitching posts. The trails traverse shaded valleys and ridgetop meadows and are a regional draw for equestrian visitors.
The hollow is a wooded island of habitat surrounded by prairie and farmland, making it a strong wildlife watching destination. Visitors commonly see white-tailed deer, wild turkey, pileated woodpeckers, and migratory songbirds.
A shaded picnic area with tables, grills, and a shelter sits near the main parking lot. It makes a convenient lunch stop for RV travelers exploring the Coteau des Prairies.
The park road winds through dense hardwood forest that turns brilliant yellow and orange in early fall. The drive pairs well with short stops at trailheads and overlooks within the hollow.
Roy Lake State Park lies about 20 miles southwest and provides the closest developed RV campground, with electric sites, a dump station, and lake access. Many visitors base their RV at Roy Lake and day-trip to Sica Hollow.

Sica Hollow State Park, SD, United States
From Sisseton, South Dakota, the park is about a 20 minute drive northwest on BIA and county roads. Aberdeen is roughly 90 miles southwest, about a 1 hour 45 minute drive, and Fargo, North Dakota, is about 2 hours north on Interstate 29. The final approach includes narrow, hilly rural roads with tight curves into the hollow, so large motorhomes and long trailers should use caution. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Hector International Airport in Fargo.
