Campgrounds and RV parks near Alberni-Clayoquot B, BC

Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District sits at the centre of Vancouver Island, with Port Alberni at the head of the Alberni Inlet. It is a common overnight stop for RVers headed to the Pacific Rim, Tofino, and Ucluelet along Highway 4, and a destination in its own right for lake, river, and salmon-run camping. The closest provincial park to the city core is Stamp River Provincial Park, located northwest of Port Alberni on central Vancouver Island, reached by following Hwy 4 past Port Alberni and turning onto Beaver Creek Road. Sproat Lake Provincial Park Campground sits 13 km northwest of Port Alberni on the north shore of Sproat Lake and is reached via Highway 4. Private options fill the gap for RVers wanting hookups, including Arrowvale Riverside Campground and Cottages and Somass Motel and RV on the edge of town. For a quieter base further east, Horne Lake Regional Park offers rustic lakefront sites. The 105-hectare park sits below the cliffs of Mount Mark and includes forest camping, canoe and paddleboard rentals, picnicking, fishing, and programmed recreation.

Provincial park sites are booked online. All campsite reservations for BC Parks must be made through Discover Camping, and when reservations are not available all campsites function as first-come, first-served. Stamp River and Sproat Lake both use this system, and popular summer weekends tend to book out months in advance. Horne Lake Regional Park uses a separate regional-district system. Reservations at Horne Lake Regional Park can be made April 1 through October 31 up to 120 days in advance and up to two days before your arrival date. No reservations are taken outside that season, and a minimum three-night stay is required on statutory holiday weekends. Private options such as Arrowvale Riverside Campground and Cottages and Somass Motel and RV book directly through their own websites and typically hold hookup sites earlier than the provincial system.
