Campgrounds and RV parks near Skidegate 1, BC

Skidegate sits on the southeast shore of Graham Island in Haida Gwaii, a remote archipelago off the north coast of British Columbia. The community is reached by BC Ferries from Prince Rupert to Skidegate Landing, or via the short inter-island ferry from Alliford Bay on Moresby Island, and it serves as the practical base for RV travellers heading north up Highway 16 or south toward Sandspit. Campground options close to the village are limited. Hidden Island RV and Campground is the nearest developed option, offering vehicle sites within a short drive of the Skidegate ferry terminal. The office and orientation point for Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site is located at the Haida Heritage Centre at Kaay Llnagaay in Skidegate, which is the standard first stop for trip planning. Beyond Skidegate, most RV camping is concentrated in Naikoon Provincial Park to the north and at forest recreation sites on Moresby Island. There are no roads into Gwaii Haanas, so RV travellers focus their itinerary on Graham Island and the road-accessible east side of Moresby.

For Naikoon Provincial Park, including the Misty Meadows and Agate Beach campgrounds, reservations are not accepted. Sites are first-come, first-served, and only cash payments are accepted at the campgrounds. Arriving earlier in the day improves the odds of securing a site in July and August. Private operators near Skidegate, including Hidden Island RV and Campground, generally take direct bookings by phone, email, or their own website. Reserving ahead is strongly advised in summer, when island inventory is thin. Self-guided visits to Gwaii Haanas require a reservation through Parks Canada made at least five business days ahead, along with a mandatory online orientation. Ferry space for RVs on BC Ferries between Prince Rupert and Skidegate also needs to be reserved early.
