During June, July, August and September, Vernon experiences its most favorable weather, with temperatures between 20°C and 26°C. Wildfire smoke can affect visibility and air quality in late July and August in some years. Winter camping options are limited. Many private campgrounds close for the season, and Highway 97 through the valley remains open year-round but requires winter tires in the mountain sections nearby.

Expect a mix of tidy private RV parks with full services and smaller riverside or lakeside sites with basic amenities. Quilakwa RV Park accommodates pull-throughs with 30A or 50A outlets, picnic tables, water, toilets, showers, and laundry facilities, plus a camp store with firewood, ice, snacks, drinks, and river tubes, and pets are welcome with an off-leash area. Sites at the smaller parks are level and grassed, and cell coverage along the Highway 97 corridor is generally reliable. Bears frequent the valley, so food storage discipline is essential at every site.
