Campgrounds and RV parks near Canterbury, NB

Water activities dominate the area. Skiff Lake is used for boating, swimming, and fishing, and the surrounding lakes hold land-locked salmon and smallmouth bass. Kayak rentals are available at the Wauklehegan Lake Kayak Centre at the McAdam Lake Campground, with single and double Old Town kayaks for exploring the calm, scenic waters of Wauklehegan Lake. On the Saint John River side, Mariner's Point RV Park provides river access and quiet waterfront sites, with ATV and hiking trails in the surrounding forest. Families often plan a day at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Woodstock for its pool, water features, mini-golf, and character activities. Off-water options include the McAdam Railway Station national historic site, the Charles Connell House museum in Woodstock, Kings Landing Historical Settlement to the east, and the "World's Largest Axe" across the river in Nackawic.

The camping season in this part of New Brunswick is short. Most private grounds open in mid-May and close by mid-October, tracking frost dates and provincial park schedules. McAdam (Wauklehegan) Lake Campground runs May 1 through October 31, and Mariner's Point RV Park operates on a similar late-spring to mid-fall schedule. July and August are peak months, with the warmest lake temperatures, the widest slate of family programming at Jellystone, and the highest demand for waterfront sites. Popular weekends including Canada Day, the New Brunswick Day long weekend in early August, and Labour Day fill first, so book several weeks ahead for those dates. Shoulder-season trips in late May, June, and September trade warm swims for cooler nights, fewer bugs after early summer, and easier reservations. Fall brings strong foliage along the river valley through late September and early October. Winter travel is limited: most RV parks close, roads see heavy snow, and services in small villages like Canterbury are reduced.

Expect a rural, forested setting with two-lane highways, spotty cell coverage between towns, and small-village services. Groceries, fuel, and basic RV supplies are easiest to find in Woodstock or Fredericton; Canterbury and McAdam have limited retail. Site types range widely. Larger resort-style parks near Woodstock typically offer pull-through sites, 30-amp and 50-amp electrical, water hookups, on-site dump stations, laundry, showers, Wi-Fi, and a pool or playground. McAdam Campground on Wauklehegan Lake offers peaceful wilderness camping on the shore of a beautiful lake, with sites nestled between large pines and both serviced and un-serviced sites available. Bring bug spray for June and early July blackflies and mosquitoes, layers for cool evenings even in summer, and cash or card for small operators. Border-crossing documents are worth carrying if a Maine day trip is on the plan.
