Campgrounds and RV parks near Cardwell, NB

Fundy National Park is the marquee day trip. The world's highest tides await visitors at Fundy National Park, where you can kayak on the Bay of Fundy, explore the seafloor when the tide recedes, and hike or bike through native Acadian forests. Clear nights are worth planning around, as the park is known for dark skies away from town lights. Closer to camp, families can tube the Kennebecasis River, hike the Bluff trail, and hunt down the region's covered bridges, several of which are within a short drive of Sussex. The town itself is walkable, with cafes, an agricultural museum, and the well-known outdoor murals. At Sussex KOA Journey, on-site amenities include a pool and playground, which gives parents an easy in-park evening option after longer excursions to the coast.

The RV season in this part of New Brunswick runs roughly from mid-May through mid-October. Private parks near Cardwell typically open with the spring thaw and close before hard frost, while Fundy National Park has five front country campgrounds with amenities such as washrooms, showers, electrical, sewer and water hookups operating on a similar seasonal calendar, with reduced services in the shoulder months. Summer is the busiest window. Summer is the most popular time to visit, with warmer weather and ocean temperatures for swimming, plus a potential break from the bay's persistent morning fog. July and August weekends and long weekends fill first, so book those dates early. Late June and early September tend to offer similar weather with lighter crowds. Fall brings vivid foliage across the Kennebecasis Valley and cooler nights suitable for campfires. Winter camping is not a practical option at private parks in the area; most facilities are closed, roads can be snow-covered, and services are limited until the spring reopening. Headquarters Campground at Fundy remains open during winter, along with ski and snowshoe trails, for travellers looking for a cold-weather base.

Expect a rural setting with a mix of wooded and open sites, gravel interior roads, and hookup levels that vary widely between parks. Larger parks like Sussex KOA Journey offer pull-throughs and full services suitable for bigger Class A and Class C rigs, while smaller nearby campgrounds may have shorter sites, limited 50-amp availability, and back-in-only access. Confirm site length, amp service, and sewer options before arrival. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Sussex and along the Trans-Canada Highway, but drops in valleys and inside Fundy National Park. Bugs, especially mosquitoes and black flies, are most active from late May through early July, so pack repellent. Fundy fog can roll in fast on the coast even when Cardwell is sunny. Plan tide-timed activities in advance and bring layers, waterproof shells, and closed-toe shoes for beach and trail time.
