Campgrounds and RV parks near Nackawic, NB

Nackawic sits on the north bank of the Saint John River in west-central New Brunswick, about a 45-minute drive west of Fredericton along Route 105 and Route 2. The town is best known as the site of the World's Largest Axe, commissioned when Nackawic was named the Forestry Capital of Canada. The surrounding stretch of river is actually the Mactaquac headpond, a wide reservoir formed by the Mactaquac Dam downstream, which gives the area calm water suitable for boating, swimming, and fishing. RV campers have several private options within a short drive. Mariner's Point RV Park sits directly across the headpond from Nackawic in Upper Queensbury with a private dock, while Sunset View Campground and Great Bear Campground offer waterfront sites on the same stretch of river. Heritage Country Camping in Lower Queensbury and Woolastook Park in Upper Kingsclear round out the closer choices heading toward Fredericton. For a full-service provincial-park experience, Mactaquac Provincial Park lies about 20 minutes west of Fredericton and anchors the region with hundreds of sites and extensive amenities.

Private campgrounds around Nackawic, including Mariner's Point RV Park, Sunset View Campground, Great Bear Campground, Heritage Country Camping, and Woolastook Park, are booked directly with each operator by phone, email, or their own website. Long weekends and July-August weekends sell out early, so reserving several weeks ahead is recommended for RV sites with hookups. Mactaquac Provincial Park is reserved through the Parks New Brunswick reservation system at reservations.parcsnbparks.ca. Seasonal campsite reservations open in mid-January for a two-week window, and nightly camping reservations for all New Brunswick provincial parks open in February. A non-refundable reservation fee applies to each campsite reservation. For big rigs, share trailer length at booking to secure a pad that fits, especially for units over 32 feet.
