Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint Stephen, NB

The Bay of Fundy defines the local experience. At Oak Bay Campground, a sheltered tidal inlet off the mouth of the St. Croix River, campers can walk the exposed ocean floor at low tide, use the saltwater beach, and access washrooms and picnic areas. St. Andrews, about 25 minutes south, is the base for whale-watching tours, Kingsbrae Garden, and the Fundy Discovery Aquarium. Active travelers can hike coastal trails, kayak on Passamaquoddy Bay, and drive the Quoddy Loop across to Deer Island and Campobello. At McAdam (Wauklehegan) Lake Campground, activities include boating, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking, and from July through September registered campers receive a pass for a free tour of the McAdam Railway Station. The town of Saint Stephen itself hosts the Ganong Chocolate Museum and the annual Chocolate Fest in early August.

The camping season in southwestern New Brunswick is short and clearly defined. Most private grounds in the corridor open in early to mid-May and close in October. Kiwanis Oceanfront Camping runs from early May through mid-October, and McAdam (Wauklehegan) Lake Campground operates from the May long weekend through the Thanksgiving weekend in October. Outside these windows, most grounds are closed and services such as water and dump stations are shut off. July and August are peak season. Warm days, long evenings, and Fundy fog roll through the coast, and the St. Andrews area books out weeks in advance around the Canada Day and August long weekends. Shoulder season, late May through late June and again in September, brings quieter grounds and fewer bugs. January averages a daily high near -4°C with a low of about -13°C, while July peaks near 26°C with a low around 15°C. Annual precipitation totals roughly 1,240 mm, with snow concentrated from November to March. Winter camping is not a mainstream option in this corner of the province.

Grounds in the area lean toward relaxed and family-run rather than resort-style. Oak Bay Campground accommodates RVs of most sizes with full hookup options including 30-amp electrical, water, sewer, and a dump station, plus pull-through sites, big-rig access, a pool, showers, laundry, flush toilets, picnic tables, a playground, RV storage, and Wi-Fi. The property covers roughly 33 acres and includes an oceanfront beach on the tidal inlet. Kiwanis Passamaquoddy Park offers a mix of tent-only sites, pull-throughs, and full-hookup 30-amp sites, with sea-field and oceanfront rows fronting Passamaquoddy Bay. Island View Camping sits above the St. Croix River with a mix of serviced pull-through sites and semi-wooded sites closer to the water. Cell service can be patchy at coastal sites. Bring bug spray, layers for cool evenings, and cash or a card for on-site canteens and firewood.
