Camping near Simonds, New Brunswick
Simonds is a parish in Saint John County on the eastern edge of the city of Saint John, positioned between the Bay of Fundy coast and the lower Saint John River valley. RV travellers use it as a base for exploring southern New Brunswick, with quick access to Route 1, the Saint John waterfront, and the drive east toward Fundy National Park and St. Martins.
Most campgrounds serving the area sit along the Saint John River corridor and the Kingston Peninsula, a short drive from the parish. Oak Point Kiwanis Park sits on the Saint John River with a swimming beach, and offers waterfront property, a pool, showers, and flush toilets, while Hardings Point Campground Inc is another riverfront option and Hidden Valley Campground offers a more wooded inland setting. Coy Lake Camping RV Park Ltd and Mohawk Camping extend the range westward and are useful for travellers routing between Saint John and Fredericton.
Expect a mix of private, family-run campgrounds rather than large national-park facilities. Sites range from serviced RV pads with full hookups to unserviced tent areas, and seasonal sites are common.
Things to do near Simonds
The Bay of Fundy shoreline is the main draw. Irving Nature Park on the west side of Saint John has coastal trails and marsh boardwalks, and the tides at St. Martins sea caves, about an hour east, are walkable at low water. Reversing Falls Rapids and the Stonehammer UNESCO Global Geopark sit within the city.
On the river side, Oak Point Kiwanis Park has a fine-sand-and-rocky swimming beach and views of the tallest lighthouse on the Saint John River system, and Hardings Point Campground Inc is close to the free cable ferries that cross to the Kingston Peninsula.
Day trips reach Fundy National Park in about ninety minutes by car from Saint John, along with the Fundy Trail Parkway and uptown Saint John for the City Market, museums, and the cruise-ship waterfront.

Most private campgrounds in this part of New Brunswick operate from mid-May through mid-October, with Oak Point Kiwanis Park listed as open from May 1 to October 31. Outside that window, sites are typically closed or on winter shutdown, and services such as water hookups are turned off due to freezing.
July and August are the peak. Days are warm, the Saint John River beaches are usable, and fog can form in the summer along the Bay of Fundy, though it usually burns off. This is also when weekends fill fastest, especially around Canada Day, the New Brunswick Day long weekend in early August, and the Labour Day weekend.
Late spring and early fall are quieter. Blackflies and mosquitoes peak in late May and June, and fall brings colour through the river valley in late September and early October. On average, 240 cm of snow falls per year in Saint John, usually from November to April, so RV camping is not practical in winter.

This little camper was PERFECT for my daughter and her 3 yr old twins !! Surprisingly more room than I thought there would be ! Caroline and her husband were amazing to deal with !! We camped off grid for a week and the camper handled it fine and we only had to run the generator for one afternoon to charge things back up ! I’d definitely rent this again !!

How to book
Campgrounds near Simonds are almost all privately operated, so reservations go directly through each park rather than a single provincial system. Oak Point Kiwanis Park takes bookings by phone and social message, and other nearby parks such as Hidden Valley Campground, Hardings Point Campground Inc, Coy Lake Camping RV Park Ltd, and Mohawk Camping run their own booking channels.
For summer weekends, book several weeks ahead, and longer for holiday long weekends when many sites are held by seasonal renters. Ask about site length, hookup type (20, 30, or 50 amp), and whether the site is pull-through if you are in a larger rig.
For trips that combine the area with Fundy National Park, park campgrounds inside Fundy are reserved separately through the Parks Canada reservation service, which launches for the coming visitor season in January or early February.
What to expect on site
Expect small to mid-sized family campgrounds rather than resort-style parks. Serviced RV sites at Oak Point Kiwanis Park include full hookups with electrical, water, and sewer connections, a dump station, modern shower houses, laundry facilities, and clean restrooms, along with a beach and swimming pool. Cell coverage is generally solid near Saint John and thins out along the river and toward the coast.
Many parks are pet-friendly on leash and have playgrounds, which suits families travelling with kids. Firewood is usually sold on site, and importing wood from outside the province is restricted to limit pests.
Roads into riverfront campgrounds can be narrow with tight turns near the water, so check site dimensions in advance if you are driving a Class A motorhome or towing a fifth wheel.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Simonds, NB
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Simonds, NB?
RV rental in Simonds is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Bay of Fundy region. Expect motorhomes to average around $200 to $275 per night and travel trailers closer to $100 to $150 per night, with many hosts offering weekly discounts. For a cheaper Simonds RV adventure, target shoulder seasons (late May or September) when nightly rates drop and campgrounds like Rockwood Park have wider availability. Filter for travel trailers if you already have a tow vehicle, or pick a delivered Class C if you want zero hassle. Add fuel, campground fees (roughly $30 to $70 per night for hookups), and groceries for a complete trip budget that often beats hotel-and-rental-car combos.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Simonds%2C%20New%20BrunswickWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Simonds, NB?
Good news: a regular Class 5 driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Simonds, with no special motorhome endorsement required in New Brunswick. You'll need to be 25 or older and pass a quick ID verification through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit (usually under $20 from your local auto club) and you're ready to roll. Most first-time renters in Saint John are surprised how straightforward it is. Once you're verified, your host walks you through the entire RV at pickup, so even if you've never driven anything bigger than a minivan, you'll feel confident before pulling onto Route 1.
www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/public-safety/services/services_renderer.201136.Class_5_Drivers_Licence.htmlIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included in Simonds?
Yes, every RV rental in Simonds booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you drive away. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout so you can pick what fits your comfort and budget. If you get a flat tire on Loch Lomond Road or lock the keys in the rig at Mispec Beach, one phone call gets help dispatched. This safety net is a big reason renters feel confident booking a motorhome rental in Simonds, especially first-timers heading into the Fundy region.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if I need to change my Simonds RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a standard cancellation policy for every reservation (it is not chosen by the host), and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel, and special circumstances like natural disasters are reviewed separately. You can read the full policy on the RVezy Help Center before confirming. Book early to secure the best Simonds RV trip dates around the Area 506 Festival or the Fundy tides, then relax knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Simonds?
Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental options in Simonds are plentiful, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see hosts who happily welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Once you are on the road, Simonds and the greater Saint John area are dog paradise: Rockwood Park has off-leash zones and miles of wooded trails, Irving Nature Park welcomes leashed dogs on its coastal boardwalks, and New Brunswick provincial campgrounds allow pets on leash. Message your host before booking to confirm any pet fee and to mention your dog's size and breed. Bring a tie-out, collapsible water bowl, and a towel for muddy Fundy beach paws.
parcsnbparks.ca/enCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in Simonds?
Yes, RV delivery Simonds is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a 30-foot motorhome through downtown Saint John. Many hosts will tow or drive the RV right to Rockwood Park Campground, Hardings Point, New River Beach Provincial Park, or even your driveway in East Saint John, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Just use the Delivery filter when searching. Delivery fees typically depend on distance from the host's home base. Pro tip: pair delivery with a stationary stay at Rockwood Park for the ultimate stress-free family RV trip Simonds weekend, you literally just show up with groceries.
saintjohn.ca/en/recreation-and-parks/rockwood-parkHow far can I travel from Simonds on an RV road trip?
Plenty of range. An RV road trip from Simonds opens up all of Atlantic Canada. Fundy National Park is about 90 minutes east (roughly 130 km) with its famous tides and coastal trails. The St. Martins sea caves are about 45 minutes away, Hopewell Rocks sit roughly 2 hours northeast, and Moncton is under 2 hours. Push a bit further and you can reach Prince Edward Island via the Confederation Bridge in about 3.5 hours, or cross into Maine at the St. Stephen border in about 1 hour. Each host sets their own mileage allowance and many offer unlimited mileage add-ons, so check the listing or message the host to map your route. Ask about an unlimited mileage option if you are planning the full Maritimes loop.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Simonds%2C%20New%20BrunswickWhere can I park or camp an RV near Simonds, NB?
You've got excellent options for where to park an RV in Simonds and the surrounding Saint John area. Rockwood Park Campground (right inside the city, 213 sites with full and partial hookups, open mid-May to mid-October) is the local favorite. Hardings Point Campground sits along the Kingston Peninsula about 15 minutes away. New River Beach Provincial Park (40 minutes west) offers oceanfront sites along the Bay of Fundy, and Hidden Valley Campground works well for families. Free overnight parking is generally not allowed on Saint John city streets, so always book a campground or use the Walmart on Fairville Boulevard with manager permission. Pro tip: Rockwood books up fast for July and August weekends, reserve at least 6 weeks ahead.
parcsnbparks.ca/en/parks/new-river-beachWhen is the best time to visit Simonds, NB in an RV?
The sweet spot for RV camping Simonds is mid-June through mid-September, when daytime highs sit between 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F) and the Bay of Fundy fog lifts more often. July and August are peak (warmest water at Mispec Beach, full festival calendar including Area 506 on the waterfront), while early September delivers warm days, cool nights, and far fewer crowds. Fall foliage peaks in early to mid October and is stunning along the Saint John River. Winters are cold and snowy, with most campgrounds closed November to April. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season trip in early June or mid-September for the best combo of weather, availability, and lower rates.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/results_1991_2020_e.html?searchType=stnName&txtStationName=saint+johnI'm a first-time RV renter. Will I be okay driving in Simonds?
Yes, even if it's your first time renting an RV, you'll do great in Simonds. Every host gives you a thorough walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, slide-outs, propane, the toilet, and dumping tanks, plus they're a text away the whole trip. Roads around Simonds are RV-friendly: Route 1 is a smooth four-lane highway, and once you're out toward Loch Lomond or Mispec, traffic thins quickly. The trickiest spots are the steep hills in Uptown Saint John and the Reversing Falls Bridge, both easily avoided by sticking to Route 1 or choosing delivery. Pro tip: start with a Class C or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first trip, easier to drive and park than a full Class A.
www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/dti/highway_safety.htmlWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Simonds trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Simonds includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, or mechanical issues are one phone call away from help. The nearest major service hubs are right in Saint John (CAA-approved shops along Rothesay Avenue and Fairville Boulevard), so most issues get resolved fast. Your host is also a direct line for questions about quirks of their specific RV. Pro tip: before you leave the host's driveway, save the roadside assistance number in your phone and snap a photo of the RV's plate and VIN. Then enjoy the drive to Fundy knowing the safety net is right there.
tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/motor-vehicle-safetyCan I take my Simonds RV rental across the US border into Maine?
Often yes. Cross-border travel into Maine is possible with many Simonds hosts since the St. Stephen / Calais crossing is just over an hour away. Confirm two things with your host before booking: that they permit US travel, and that your RVezy protection coverage applies across the border. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Bring your passport, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and a signed cross-border permission letter from the host. Popular routes include Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park (about 4 hours). Declare any fresh produce, alcohol, and firewood at the border, and buy firewood locally rather than transporting it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost for my Simonds RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you'd think. Gas prices in New Brunswick are regulated weekly by the Energy and Utilities Board, so you can check the current maximum price before you leave. Expect a Class C motorhome to get 10 to 12 mpg (about 22 to 25 L/100 km) and a travel trailer to drop your tow vehicle's mileage by roughly 30 percent. For a typical 4-day, 600 km loop from Simonds to Fundy National Park and back, plan on roughly $120 to $180 CAD in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Saint John before heading to St. Martins or Fundy, rural stations charge the regulated max and your card may also save a few cents at Costco on McAllister Drive.
www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/nbeub/energy/petroleum.htmlHow far in advance should I book a campground near Simonds?
Book early to lock in the best campgrounds near Simonds, especially for July and August. Rockwood Park Campground inside Saint John opens reservations each spring and fills its 213 sites quickly for summer weekends. New Brunswick provincial parks like New River Beach use the parcsnbparks.ca reservation system, which opens in late winter / early spring for the upcoming season, aim to book within the first 2 to 3 weeks of opening day for prime sites. Private parks like Hardings Point take reservations year-round. Pro tip: for a stress-free trip, book your campground first, then book your RVezy rental for the matching dates. Mid-week stays are easier to land last-minute and often quieter.
parcsnbparks.ca/en/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Simonds and Saint John?
Driving around Simonds is very manageable. Route 1 is the main artery, a divided four-lane highway with gentle grades that any RV handles easily. Inside Saint John, watch for steep hills in the Uptown core and on Main Street North, the Harbour Bridge has a $0.50 toll, and the Reversing Falls Bridge can be tight in a big motorhome. Fog rolls in off the Bay of Fundy quickly, especially in June and July, so slow down and use low-beam headlights. Winter brings snow and ice from late November through March. Pro tip: if you're nervous about city driving, choose delivery to your campground or pick a host based outside the urban core near Rothesay or Quispamsis for an easier pickup.
www511.gnb.ca/en/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Simonds?
Most campgrounds near Simonds offer the full RV experience. Rockwood Park has full hookup sites (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), a dump station, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. New River Beach Provincial Park offers two-way (water and electric) sites with a centralized dump station and washrooms with showers. Hardings Point Campground provides 30-amp service and a dump station. Potable water fills are available at every full-service park, and most have a small camp store for ice, firewood, and basics. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot water hose, a 30-to-50 amp adapter, and a sewer hose support, NB sites are usually level but hookup spacing varies, so a long extension cord saves the day.
parcsnbparks.ca/en/visit/amenitiesWhat's typically included inside a Simonds RV rental?
You'll be impressed by what's packed into a typical Simonds RV rental. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4 to 8 depending on the floor plan, a furnace and air conditioning, a hot water tank, and seatbelts for safe travel. Most listings include a TV, many have onboard generators for off-grid stops, and an increasing number offer Wi-Fi boosters or Starlink, handy along the Fundy coast where cell coverage thins. Bedding and kitchen kits are sometimes included or available as add-ons. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities tab carefully and message the host to confirm coffee maker, BBQ, and outdoor chairs are included before your campervan rental Simonds adventure begins.
tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/motor-vehicle-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for Simonds RV rentals?
Hosts in Simonds offer plenty of useful add-ons to customize your trip: bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camping chairs, propane fire pits, generators, bike racks, paddleboards, and even tow vehicles for trailers. Pickup is typically at the host's driveway in Simonds, East Saint John, or nearby Rothesay; many hosts also offer delivery to Rockwood Park or your campsite for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, some include 100 km per day, others offer unlimited mileage packages perfect for an RV rental with unlimited mileage feel. Pro tip: bundle bedding, a kitchen kit, and a propane fire pit at booking time, it saves a Walmart run and gets your Saint John RV trip off to a smooth start.
tourismnewbrunswick.ca/places-to-stayHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Simonds RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform. You pay online with a credit card when you book, and your funds are held safely until the trip begins. A refundable security deposit is collected separately before pickup (the amount is shown on the listing) and returned within a few days after your return, assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. Never pay a host directly outside the platform, doing so voids your protection plan. Do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff, taking date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior, exterior, and odometer. That five-minute habit is the single best way to ensure your full deposit comes back fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle cold weather or shoulder-season camping in Simonds?
Shoulder seasons can be magical around Simonds if you prep right. May and October days run 8 to 15 degrees C with chilly nights that occasionally dip below freezing, so look for RVs with heated holding tanks, a working propane furnace, and shore-power capability. Most full-hookup sites at Rockwood Park stay open until mid-October, giving you stunning fall colors along the Saint John River with very few neighbors. Bring an extra propane tank, warm bedding, and a small electric space heater for when you're plugged into 30-amp shore power. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm the furnace works and tanks are insulated. You'll trade a little chill for empty trails at Irving Nature Park and zero wait at the Reversing Rapids lookout.
