Campgrounds and RV parks near Centre Wellington, ON

The signature activity is tubing the Grand River through the Elora Gorge. Riders float an inner tube along the river for a look at the gorge, with daily tubing available weather-permitting from mid-June to early September and tickets purchased online in advance. The gorge also offers a challenge to experienced whitewater kayakers, while canoeists often start at the lower end of the conservation area and paddle downstream toward West Montrose, Waterloo, and Kitchener. Hiking, fishing, and swimming round out the outdoor menu. The conservation area is within a world-renowned brown trout fishery, and a splash pad keeps kids cool on hot summer days. Nearby, Belwood Lake and Elora Quarry Conservation Area add swimming, boating, and additional trails. In town, the heritage main streets of Elora and Fergus offer shops, restaurants, and riverside walks within short driving distance of every campground on this list.

The camping season is short and clearly defined. The Elora Gorge Conservation Area opens from May 1 to October 15, and Highland Pines is open May through October. Most private campgrounds in the surrounding area follow a similar May-to-October window, and RV travel outside those months is generally not practical at the local campgrounds. Summer is peak season. Weekends from late June through Labour Day fill early, especially at riverside sites and campgrounds within reach of the tubing operation. Families should plan around Ontario school holidays, when weekend and long-weekend availability tightens significantly. Shoulder-season trips in May, September, and early October trade warmer water for quieter sites, cooler nights, and better fall colour along the Grand River valley. Tubing is available only from mid-June to early September, so travellers whose main goal is river tubing should book squarely inside that window. Winter camping is not offered at the campgrounds covered here.

Expect a mix of large family resorts and busier conservation-area campgrounds rather than remote wilderness sites. Highland Pines Campground is a 200-acre resort on Lake Belwood offering over 700 seasonal campsites and 120-plus overnight RV sites with comprehensive hookups, and its amenities include three swimming pools, splash pads, themed playgrounds, sports facilities, and a wide variety of additional amenities, plus an on-site marina on Lake Belwood. Bingemans and Green Acre Park lean similarly toward family-resort amenities. At Elora Gorge, sites are generally wooded and vary in service level. The conservation area has 9 main campgrounds, A to I, and is home to 450 campsites. Campgrounds A, B, D, E, G, and H offer only unserviced sites, while Campgrounds C and F offer sites with either electric or water and electric service, and Campground I is the only one with fully serviced sites. Two policies catch visitors off guard: a total alcohol and cannabis ban is in effect for the entire season at Elora Gorge, and dogs are welcome on the campground and in the conservation area, providing they are on a leash, however, dogs are not allowed in the splash pad area.
