Campgrounds and RV parks near Killaloe, ON

Water-based activities dominate the area. At Bonnechere Provincial Park, many campsites sit directly along the Bonnechere River, giving direct access to boating, canoeing, fishing, and wildlife viewing, plus a long, shallow sandy beach on Round Lake that suits families with young kids. Bonnechere is a short drive from the eastern edge of Algonquin Provincial Park, and interpretive programs at the park's Davenport Centre cover local logging and pioneer history. The McNaughton Trail runs alongside the Bonnechere River with interpretive signposts, and the park has a boat launch used by paddlers and no-wake power boats. Off-park, expect quiet backroads through Renfrew County, canoe access to Golden Lake, and easy drives to Eganville, Barry's Bay, and Foymount, one of the higher points in Southern Ontario.

Bonnechere Provincial Park operates on a standard Ontario Parks seasonal window, typically late May to mid-October. Outside those dates the campgrounds, comfort stations, and park store are closed, though the day-use area may still be accessible in shoulder periods. July and August are peak. Warm lake temperatures, the beach, and school vacation drive strong demand for electrical sites at Tall Pines, and popular sites are frequently booked five months out at the 7:00 a.m. reservation opening. Busy weekends include the Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Civic Holiday long weekends. Bugs are a real factor: black flies run from mid-spring into June, mosquitoes peak in late spring and continue through summer, and deer flies and horseflies appear in early summer. Late May, June, and September are the practical shoulder windows. Availability improves, temperatures are cooler, and fall brings foliage across the Ottawa Valley. Winter camping is not offered at Bonnechere; RV travellers looking for cold-season stays should plan elsewhere.

At Bonnechere, Tall Pines has 59 campsites set among mature white pines, 43 of which are electric, and can accommodate equipment ranging from tents to large trailers. River Loop has 55 non-electric sites suited to tents and small trailers, many of them backing onto the Bonnechere River. Sandy Flats is a radio-free, generator-free loop of 15 sites with a mini comfort station. All three campgrounds share a central comfort station with flush toilets, showers, and laundry, plus vault privies through the campgrounds and day-use area. Where permitted, generator use is limited to two short windows: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Only one vehicle is allowed per campsite; additional vehicles must buy a permit at the park store and park off-site. Expect spotty cell coverage, wildlife along the river corridor, and a park store carrying firewood, ice, and basic supplies.
