Camping near McNab/Braeside
McNab/Braeside is a township in Renfrew County, Ontario, on the south shore of the Ottawa River about an hour west of downtown Ottawa. The area serves as a practical base for RV travellers exploring the Ottawa Valley, with easy Highway 17 access, riverfront day-use areas, and a mix of private resorts and provincial park camping within a short drive.
Private options such as Bayview Lodge Resort, Cedar Cove Resort, and Serenity Hills Campground offer seasonal and transient sites suited to trailers and motorhomes. Riverbend Park adds another private choice near the water. For public camping, the closest provincial facility is Pine Grove - Fitzroy Provincial Park, located in the Fitzroy Harbour community at the confluence of the Carp and Ottawa Rivers.
Fitzroy sits in the north end of the city of Ottawa, roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive from McNab/Braeside, making it the main public-land camping anchor for the region.
Things to do near McNab/Braeside
The Ottawa River is the region's main draw. Swimming, paddling, boating, and fishing are all popular along the shoreline, and the Ottawa carries bass, pike, walleye, and panfish that can be reached from boat or shore.
At Pine Grove - Fitzroy Provincial Park, visitors swim in the Ottawa River, explore a century-old white pine forest and a stand of 300-year-old bur oaks, and walk beginner-friendly hiking trails. The 2.4-kilometre Terraces Trail is a highlight, with shale pillars and glacial boulders along the route and a small waterfall near the beginning of the path.
Arnprior, just minutes away, has groceries, a marina, and access to the Madawaska River, useful for restocking mid-trip.

The RV season in this part of Ontario runs roughly from Victoria Day weekend in May through Canadian Thanksgiving in mid-October. Fitzroy Provincial Park is open from mid-May until mid-October, and most private campgrounds nearby follow a similar operating window. Summer brings warm days ideal for the beach and rivers, while shoulder seasons deliver cooler nights and thinner crowds.
Peak demand hits around the summer long weekends. Campsites book especially early for the Canada Day long weekend on July 1, and because the park is just down the road from Ottawa, this is a very busy time for the entire region. Note that, like most Ontario provincial parks, Fitzroy has a complete liquor ban on Victoria Day and for the 10 days preceding it.
Winter shuts most campgrounds, but the area stays active. Cross-country skiing is available on trails at Fitzroy maintained by the West Carleton Nordic Ski Club.

Blair, this is the third time we have rented with you and you did not disappoint!!!!

After the camper that I had rented six months ago from RVEZY cancelled 48 hours before our trip, Blair made some changes in to schedule and made available his camper. It was clean, comfortable and Blair was a joy to deal with. I highly recommend.

How to book campgrounds near McNab/Braeside
For Pine Grove - Fitzroy Provincial Park, reservations go through the Ontario Parks reservation system, online or by phone. All Ontario provincial parks accept reservations up to five months in advance of arrival. Reservations cannot be changed or cancelled more than four months in advance, though some cancellations roll in after that. Booking as soon as the five-month window opens is standard practice for weekends in July and August.
Private parks including Bayview Lodge Resort, Cedar Cove Resort, Serenity Hills Campground, and Riverbend Park handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. Seasonal sites are often reserved months ahead, while transient sites open up more readily midweek. Campers who cancel before noon on their day of departure receive a full refund, so checking around midday can turn up last-minute openings.
What to expect at campgrounds near McNab/Braeside
Sites in this region are typically wooded and fairly spacious, with a mix of electrical and unserviced options. Fitzroy Provincial Park has more than 200 campsites across two campgrounds, Pine Grove and Two Rivers, with waterfront sites available on the Carp and Ottawa Rivers that bisect the park. Some electrical sites are available in each campground, and water taps, comfort stations with showers, and laundry facilities are located centrally.
RV travellers should note that provincial park sites do not include full hookups. A dump station is available near the park office. Private resorts along the river tend to offer water and sewer alongside power. Cell service on major providers is generally reliable in the area.

Every RV rental in McNab/Braeside booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 17 and the Ottawa Valley with real peace of mind. Protection plans cover damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the level of coverage that fits your comfort during checkout, not the host. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my McNab/Braeside trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy applies a consistent cancellation policy across every listing (hosts don't set their own rules), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book, so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Your refund amount depends on how far out you are from the trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you in full or helps you rebook with travel credit. If something unexpected comes up, contact RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Madawaska River rigs, knowing you have that initial grace period to adjust if plans shift.

Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in McNab/Braeside is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see every listing that welcomes four-legged co-pilots. The Ottawa Valley is a dream for dogs: Fitzroy Provincial Park (about 25 minutes east) has leashed-pet trails and a sandy Ottawa River beach area, and the Algonquin Trail running right through McNab/Braeside is perfect for long leashed walks along the old K&P rail bed. Most pet-friendly hosts ask that pets stay off furniture and that you clean up thoroughly before return. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and any shedding, it sets expectations and keeps your damage deposit safe.
ontarioparks.ca/park/fitzroyCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or cottage in McNab/Braeside?
Yes, RV delivery in McNab/Braeside is offered by many local hosts, and it's the easiest way to start your trip, especially if you're new to RVing. Hosts will tow or drive the RV straight to your site at places like Arnprior/Ottawa West KOA Holiday, Riverview Park and Campground in Arnprior, or a private cottage along White Lake. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see who offers it and how far they'll travel. Pro tip: delivery fees are typically charged per kilometre from the host's location, so booking a host based in Arnprior, Renfrew, or Kanata usually keeps costs lowest.

Each listing on RVezy clearly shows the daily mileage allowance and per-kilometre overage rate. Pro tip: if you're planning a road trip from McNab/Braeside through Algonquin to Tobermory, prioritize unlimited-mileage listings.
ontario.ca/page/driving-and-roadsWhere are the best campgrounds near McNab/Braeside for an RV trip?

Riverview Park & Campground in Arnprior offers shaded sites along the Madawaska River with easy access to Robert Simpson Park. Fitzroy Provincial Park (25 minutes east) is an Ontario Parks gem on the Ottawa River with electrical sites and great paddling. Driftwood Provincial Park (about 90 minutes northwest near Deep River) has jaw-dropping sunset views of the Ottawa River. Pro tip: provincial park sites open for reservations exactly five months in advance at 7 a.m. on the Ontario Parks reservation site, set a calendar reminder, summer weekends sell out within minutes.
ontarioparks.ca/park/fitzroyWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in McNab/Braeside?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for a McNab/Braeside RV trip. June brings lush green riverbanks and average highs of 22 to 25 C, July and August are peak swimming-and-paddling weather with highs of 26 to 28 C (and warm nights perfect for campfires), and September delivers crisp days, fewer bugs, and the early stages of the Ottawa Valley's famous fall colours. Winters here are genuinely cold, with January averages around -10 C, so most hosts pause bookings from late October through April. Pro tip: aim for the third week of September to early October, the maple and birch peak along Highway 17 and the Algonquin Trail, and campsites are wide open midweek.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/results_1991_2020_e.html?searchType=stnProv&lstProvince=ONI've never rented an RV before, will I know how to use everything in McNab/Braeside?
You're in good hands. First time renting an RV is something every RVezy host expects. At pickup (or at delivery, if your host offers it), the host gives you a hands-on orientation: how to level the rig, run the propane fridge, use the awning, dump tanks, hook up to shore power at places like Arnprior KOA, and operate the furnace for cool Ottawa Valley evenings. Most walkthroughs take 30 to 60 minutes, and hosts encourage you to record video on your phone. You can also message your host any time during the trip if a button stumps you, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan. Pro tip: arrive at pickup well-rested and bring a notebook, it's a lot to absorb in one go.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I break down or have a problem on the road near McNab/Braeside?
You're never alone out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering tows, tire changes, lockouts, battery boosts, and fuel delivery. If something goes sideways on Highway 17 near Arnprior or deep in Algonquin Park, one phone call connects you with help dispatched to your location. Cell coverage is strong along the Trans-Canada Highway corridor through McNab/Braeside, Renfrew, and Pembroke, though it can get spotty inside Algonquin's interior, so download offline maps before you head west. Your host is also a quick message away for anything RV-specific. Pro tip: snap a photo of the roadside assistance phone number and your VIN at pickup and save it to your phone's lock screen.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my McNab/Braeside RV rental into the United States or across Canada?
Yes, cross-border and cross-province trips are often possible, just confirm with your host before booking since they'll need to provide the right paperwork and ensure insurance applies. Many hosts happily approve trips into New York's Adirondacks (about 3 hours south via the Ogdensburg crossing) or out to Quebec's Eastern Townships and Mont-Tremblant. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. For US trips, you'll need your passport, the host's signed travel authorization, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance, all of which the host helps coordinate. Pro tip: an RV road trip from McNab/Braeside down through the Thousand Islands and into the Adirondacks is one of the most scenic week-long loops in the northeast.
cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/menu-eng.htmlWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I expect?
Plan smart and fuel won't blow your budget. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle will average around 14 to 18 L/100km when towing. Class C motorhomes typically get 18 to 22 L/100km, and bigger Class A rigs can hit 25 L/100km. Gas in the Ottawa Valley generally runs a few cents cheaper than downtown Ottawa, with stations in Arnprior, Renfrew, and Pembroke along Highway 17 being your best bets. A 500 km loop (say McNab/Braeside to Algonquin and back) in a Class C will cost roughly $130 to $180 CAD in fuel at current prices. Pro tip: fill up in Arnprior before heading into Algonquin, prices inside the park corridor climb noticeably.
nrcan.gc.ca/energy/fuel-prices/4593How far in advance should I book a campground near McNab/Braeside?
Book early and you'll have your pick of riverside sites. Ontario Parks (Fitzroy, Driftwood, Bon Echo, Algonquin) open reservations exactly five months ahead at 7 a.m. Eastern, and prime July and August weekends, especially Canada Day and the August Civic Holiday, often sell out within 15 minutes. Private campgrounds like Arnprior/Ottawa West KOA and Riverview Park typically take reservations a year in advance and have more weekday availability. For shoulder-season trips in late September or early October, you can often book just a week or two out. Pro tip: if you strike out on a weekend at Fitzroy Provincial Park, check back daily, cancellations are common in the two weeks before arrival, especially Sunday and Monday nights.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are driving conditions like around McNab/Braeside?
Driving here is refreshingly relaxed compared to bigger cities. Highway 417 and Highway 17 (the Trans-Canada) cut right past McNab/Braeside with wide lanes, gentle grades, and easy pull-offs, ideal for first-time motorhome drivers. Once you turn off onto rural routes like White Lake Road or Storyland Road, expect narrower two-lane country roads, the occasional pothole after spring thaw, and lots of wildlife at dawn and dusk (deer and the occasional moose). In late fall and winter, lake-effect snow squalls roll in off the Ottawa River, so most renters stick to May through October. Pro tip: avoid driving Highway 17 west of Renfrew right at sunset, the eastbound glare combined with deer activity is the trickiest combo you'll face.
ontario.ca/page/road-safetyWhat hookups, dump stations, and water fills are available at campgrounds near McNab/Braeside?
You'll find everything you need within a short drive. Arnprior/Ottawa West KOA Holiday offers full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer at every site) plus a dump station and potable water fill open to non-guests for a small fee. Fitzroy Provincial Park has electrical sites, a centralized dump station, and water-fill taps near the comfort stations. Riverview Park & Campground in Arnprior provides water and electric at most sites. For free dump options, the Township of McNab/Braeside and nearby municipalities occasionally offer them seasonally, call ahead to confirm. Pro tip: top up your fresh water before leaving the campground and dump on your way out, that way you arrive home light and ready to return the RV clean, protecting your security deposit.
ontarioparks.ca/park/fitzroyWhat amenities should I expect inside the RV itself?
You'll be comfortable. Most motorhome rentals in McNab/Braeside come fully equipped: real beds (queen or king in the main suite, bunks or convertible dinettes for kids), a kitchen with a propane stove, fridge/freezer, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower. Class C and Class A rigs typically include air conditioning, a furnace for cool Ottawa Valley nights, a generator, and seatbelts for everyone travelling. Many hosts add a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor speakers, and some include a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for an extra fee, though signal can dip inside Algonquin. Pro tip: each RVezy listing has a detailed amenities checklist, filter by sleeps count and generator if you're planning off-grid nights at a place like Driftwood Provincial Park.
ontario.ca/page/driving-and-roadsWhat add-ons and extras can I get with my RV rental in McNab/Braeside, and how does pickup work?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons for a campervan rental in McNab/Braeside or any motorhome rental in McNab/Braeside include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bikes, kayaks or SUPs (perfect for the Madawaska and Ottawa Rivers), generators, camp chairs, BBQs, and outdoor mat sets. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in Arnprior, Renfrew, Kanata, or right in McNab/Braeside, typically between 1 and 4 p.m., with return by 11 a.m. Delivery to your campground or cottage is an option with many hosts. Mileage policies vary by listing and are always shown upfront. Pro tip: add the kayak rental, White Lake just minutes from town is calm, clear, and made for paddling.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=McNab%2FBraeside%2C%20OntarioHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy, no cash, no e-transfers to hosts. You pay the rental total securely through the platform when you book, and the host receives funds after your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your credit card before pickup, held but not charged unless there's damage, excessive cleaning, or mileage overages. It's released back to your card after the host confirms a clean return, separate from your booking payment. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround video with your host at both pickup and drop-off in McNab/Braeside, time-stamped footage is the simplest way to ensure your full deposit comes back without any hiccups.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trips and family RV trip ideas from McNab/Braeside?
You're sitting at the gateway to some of Ontario's best routes. A classic family RV trip from McNab/Braeside is the Algonquin Loop: head west on Highway 17 to Highway 60, camp at Mew Lake or Pog Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park (about 2 hours away), and return via Bancroft and the Madawaska Valley. Another favourite is the Ottawa River route north to Driftwood Provincial Park and Deep River (90 minutes), with stops at Storyland and Logos Land. History buffs love the 90-minute trip into Ottawa for Parliament Hill, the Canadian Museum of History, and ByWard Market. Pro tip: pair an Algonquin midweek stay with a weekend at Fitzroy Provincial Park, you'll get wilderness and beachfront swimming in one easy week-long loop.
