Camping near Mississippi Mills
Mississippi Mills is a rural municipality in eastern Ontario about an hour west of downtown Ottawa, made up of the amalgamated communities of Almonte, Pakenham, Appleton and Clayton along the Mississippi River. The area suits RV travelers looking for a quiet base within reach of the capital, with camping options ranging from a family-run riverside park to a full-service provincial park.
Riverbend Park sits on the Mississippi River in Pakenham and operates as a family-owned campground with grassed and treed sites, roughly 45 minutes from Ottawa. Mal's Camping and Bayview Lodge Resort round out the private options in the surrounding countryside, while Fitzroy Provincial Park lies just east near Fitzroy Harbour on the Ottawa River.
Fitzroy is the largest destination in the area, with over 200 campsites split between the Pine Grove and Two Rivers campgrounds. Pine Grove is the larger loop and is closest to the park store and office, with mostly wide, flat sites and many electrical hookups.
Things to do near Mississippi Mills
In town, the Almonte Riverwalk follows the Mississippi River through the historic downtown, passing waterfalls, restored woollen mills and heritage buildings. Almonte is also home to the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum and the birthplace of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, both worth a rainy-day stop with kids.
Outside town, Fitzroy Provincial Park offers swimming in the Ottawa River, a small beach at Two Rivers, and easy hiking on the Terraces Trail past shale pillars and glacial boulders, plus a stand of century-old white pine and bur oak. The park's boat launch handles small boats, kayaks and canoes. Golf, farm markets and maple syrup producers are scattered through the surrounding countryside.

The camping season in this part of eastern Ontario runs roughly from mid-May through mid-October, matching Fitzroy Provincial Park's operating window. Private parks like Riverbend Park operate on a similar seasonal calendar, with heavy seasonal-camper populations and shorter overnight availability on weekends.
July and August are the busiest months. Waterfront sites at Fitzroy and weekend availability at private parks book up quickly, and the Canada Day long weekend around July 1 is one of the earliest to sell out across the region. Ontario Parks also apply a complete liquor ban on Victoria Day and the ten days leading up to it, which is worth planning around.
Spring shoulder trips in late May and early June are quieter and good for hiking and paddling, though blackflies and mosquitoes peak then. September brings fall colour along the Mississippi and Ottawa Rivers, cooler nights, and much easier reservations. Winter closes the campgrounds, but Fitzroy's trails are maintained for cross-country skiing by the West Carleton Nordic Ski Club.

How to book a campsite near Mississippi Mills
Fitzroy Provincial Park, including both the Pine Grove and Two Rivers campgrounds, is booked through the Ontario Parks reservation system online or by phone. Reservations open five months ahead of the arrival date at 7 a.m. Eastern, and reservations cannot be changed or cancelled more than four months in advance, so the four-month mark is a good time to watch for released sites.
Private campgrounds in Mississippi Mills, including Riverbend Park, Mal's Camping and Bayview Lodge Resort, are booked directly with the operator by phone or through their websites. Many sites at private parks are held by seasonal campers, so overnight availability is limited and it's worth calling ahead, especially for long weekends.
For last-minute Fitzroy stays, check the Ontario Parks site around noon, when same-day cancellations are released back into inventory.
What to expect on the ground
Fitzroy is a recreation-class provincial park with two campgrounds, both offering comfort stations, water taps, laundry facilities, showers, a boat launch and a park store. Roughly 205 sites have room for trailers, and about 107 sites across the park have electrical hookups, but there are no full-service hookup sites. A dump station is available.
At private parks along the Mississippi River, expect a mix of grassed and treed sites, a strong family atmosphere with weekend activities, swimming and paddling access, and a higher share of seasonal campers than transient ones. Cell service on major Canadian carriers is generally reliable in the Fitzroy area given its proximity to Ottawa.
Almonte and Pakenham have grocery stores, LCBO outlets, restaurants and fuel, so resupply during a trip is straightforward.

Use the Delivery filter on the listing page to see hosts who offer this. Delivery fees are set per kilometre and shown upfront. Pro tip: it's a fantastic option if you're flying into Ottawa International Airport (YOW), about 50 km from Almonte, since you can hop in a rideshare and arrive at a fully set-up campsite.
mississippimills.ca/explore-and-play/mississippi-mills-fun-guide/How far can I travel on a Mississippi Mills RV trip?

Each host sets their own mileage policy: some offer unlimited mileage, others include 100 to 200 km per night with a small per-kilometre fee beyond that. ontarioparks.ca/park/algonquinWhere should I stay in my RV near Mississippi Mills?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Mississippi Mills. Top picks include Fitzroy Provincial Park (a short drive on the Ottawa River with electrical sites and a swimming beach), Silver Lake Provincial Park about an hour south, Bonnechere Provincial Park about 90 minutes west, and private options like White Lake Campground northwest of Almonte with seasonal lakefront sites and hookups. For more rustic vibes, the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority manages nearby properties along the river. Pro tip: Ontario Parks reservations open five months ahead through the Ontario Parks reservation service, and prime July long weekends sell out quickly, so set a calendar alert.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/When's the best time to rent an RV in Mississippi Mills?
Late May through early October is prime time, with July and August offering the warmest weather (daytime highs of 25 to 28°C and comfortable lake-swim temperatures). June is gorgeous and quieter, September delivers Ottawa Valley fall colours along the Mississippi River, and shoulder seasons usually mean lower nightly rates on RV rental Ontario listings. Winters in Mississippi Mills get genuinely cold (often -15°C with snow from December through March), so most hosts pause non-winterized rentals between November and April. Pro tip: time your trip around Almonte's Puppets Up! International Puppet Festival in early August or the Naismith Basketball Festival, both signature local events that make a Mississippi Mills RV trip even more memorable.
mississippimills.ca/explore-and-play/mississippi-mills-fun-guide/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Mississippi Mills?
You'll be just fine, and most first-time renters tell us it was easier than they expected. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, propane, water and waste systems, and you can text or call them throughout your trip. Mississippi Mills is ideal for first time renting an RV: roads like Highway 29 and County Road 49 are wide, traffic is light outside Ottawa rush hour, and parking lots in Almonte's downtown area accommodate larger vehicles. If city driving makes you nervous, just choose delivery and the RV arrives ready to enjoy. Pro tip: a Class C motorhome rental Mississippi Mills drives much like a large van, perfect for beginners.
ontario.ca/page/driving-recreational-vehicle-rvWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
Help is built into every booking. Your RVezy reservation includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you've got a flat tire on Ramsay Concession Road, a dead battery at Fitzroy Provincial Park or a mechanical hiccup near Pakenham's famous Five Span Stone Bridge, you call one number and they coordinate help. Your host is also typically reachable by phone or in-app message for quick questions like how to reset the inverter. RVezy customer support is available before, during and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave Almonte, and snap a photo of your RV's plate and VIN for faster service.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take the RV across the border into Quebec or the United States?
Inter-provincial travel is the easy part: a quick drive across the Ottawa River drops you into Quebec, and many hosts happily allow trips to Gatineau Park, Mont-Tremblant or Montreal (just 200 km away). Cross-border travel to the United States may also be allowed depending on the specific host and the protection package you select, so message the host directly through the listing to confirm before you book. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: popular cross-border routes from Mississippi Mills include the Adirondacks via the Ogdensburg-Prescott bridge (about 2 hours) and Vermont's Lake Champlain region.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Mississippi Mills RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Class B campervans average around 9 to 12 L/100 km, Class C motorhomes around 18 to 22 L/100 km, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Gas in the Ottawa Valley typically runs around $1.55 to $1.75 per litre, with stations in Almonte, Carleton Place and Arnprior offering the most convenient fill-ups for an RV. For a 4-day loop covering Ottawa, Algonquin and back, budget roughly $200 to $350 CAD on fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Carleton Place before heading west toward Algonquin, prices climb noticeably once you pass Renfrew.
www2.nrcan.gc.ca/eneene/sources/pripri/prices_bycity_e.cfmHow far in advance should I book campgrounds near Mississippi Mills?
Earlier is always better, but you've got more flexibility than you might think. Ontario Parks (including Fitzroy, Silver Lake and Bonnechere) open reservations five months in advance to the day through their online reservation system, and the best waterfront sites for July and August long weekends often book within minutes of opening. Private parks like White Lake Campground accept direct bookings and tend to have more availability 4 to 8 weeks out. For best campgrounds near Mississippi Mills mid-week in June or September, you can often find sites just 1 to 2 weeks ahead. Pro tip: if your first-choice site is gone, check back after the 7-day cancellation window, lots of openings appear.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are local driving conditions like around Mississippi Mills?
Good news: driving conditions around Mississippi Mills are gentle compared to most Ontario destinations. The terrain is rolling Ottawa Valley countryside, roads like Highway 29, County Road 49 and Ramsay Concession are wide and well-maintained, and there are no mountain passes or tight switchbacks to worry about. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on rural concessions, and slow down through historic downtown Almonte where Mill Street narrows. In winter months (December to March), expect snow and icy conditions, so most RV trips happen May through October. Pro tip: avoid Highway 417 toward Ottawa during weekday rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) when a larger RV feels more relaxed on the back roads.
511.ontario.ca/What can I expect from campground hookups and amenities near Mississippi Mills?
You'll find a great mix of full-service and back-to-nature options. Ontario Parks sites near Mississippi Mills like Fitzroy and Silver Lake offer electrical sites (15/30 amp), potable water taps and dump stations on site, plus flush toilets and showers in comfort stations. Private parks like White Lake Campground offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30 amp electric) at many sites. Dump stations are easy to find: most parks let registered campers dump for free, and some allow non-guests to dump for a small fee. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving Almonte (the municipal water is excellent) and you'll have one less stop to make on day one.
ontarioparks.ca/camping/servicesWhat's actually inside the RVs available to rent in Mississippi Mills?
More than you'd guess, even in the smaller rigs. Most motorhome rental Mississippi Mills listings include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the floor plan, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelted travel seats. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and onboard generator or solar; some offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. A campervan rental Mississippi Mills (Class B) is more compact but still includes a bed, basic galley and often a wet bath. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities section closely; hosts list bedding, cookware and outdoor chairs so you'll know exactly what to pack.
destinationontario.com/en-ca/articles/rving-ontario-for-beginnersWhat popular add-ons and options do Mississippi Mills hosts offer?
Hosts make it easy to tailor your trip. Common add-ons include delivery and setup (often $1.50 to $3 per km), generator use (around $5 per hour beyond a free daily allowance), camping kits with chairs, propane firepits and cookware, bike racks, kayak racks, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Mileage policies vary by listing: you'll see exactly how many kilometres are included per night and the per-km fee for extras right on the listing page. Pickup and drop-off are usually at the host's home in Almonte, Pakenham or Carleton Place, with most asking for a 10 a.m. pickup and 11 a.m. return. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a setup add-on so the RV is camp-ready before you even arrive.
mississippimills.ca/explore-and-play/mississippi-mills-fun-guide/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy at booking (credit card, never directly to the host), and your funds are held safely until your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, with the amount set per listing; it's released back to you after a smooth return with no damage and the tanks handled per the host's instructions. To avoid issues, do the walkthrough video at pickup and drop-off (most hosts will do this with you) so condition is fully documented. Pro tip: bring the same card you booked with to pickup, it makes the deposit hold faster and easier.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I park overnight in Mississippi Mills outside a campground?
Short answer: stick to campgrounds and host-approved properties. The Municipality of Mississippi Mills Traffic and Parking By-law (02-27) limits on-street parking to three hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and municipal lots cap at four hours, so overnight street parking isn't permitted. Between December 1 and March 31, no overnight parking is allowed on any municipal street or lot from 1:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. due to winter operations. The good news? There are excellent legal options nearby, including White Lake Campground, Fitzroy Provincial Park (just 25 minutes east), and private host driveways via RVezy delivery. Pro tip: if you need a quick overnight stop, book a campsite at Fitzroy or message a local host about a one-night driveway stay.
