Camping near New Hamburg, Ontario
New Hamburg sits in Wilmot Township in the western Regional Municipality of Waterloo, with the Nith River winding through its downtown. Kitchener and Waterloo are a short drive east, Stratford is close to the west, and Highway 401 provides quick access from the Greater Toronto Area. The setting is rural Southern Ontario: farmland, Mennonite country roads, and small heritage towns.
RV travelers use New Hamburg as a base for the wider Waterloo Region and Perth County. Nith River Campground sits on the banks of the Nith just outside town and offers full-service sites along with tent camping. Country Gardens RV Park and Willow Lake Campground and RV Park serve the surrounding countryside, while Green Acre Park Campground and Bingemans Campground extend options closer to Kitchener.
The area is private-park territory rather than provincial-park territory. Expect family-run campgrounds with pools, playgrounds, and hookups rather than backcountry sites, and plan day trips out to nearby conservation areas and provincial parks.
Things to do near New Hamburg
The Nith River supports canoeing, kayaking, and fishing, and paddling day trips through farmland are a common draw. Downtown New Hamburg is a designated Heritage Conservation District and centers on a large waterwheel beside the river, with shops, cafés, and the Mennonite Relief Sale drawing weekend visitors.
Stratford, home to the Stratford Festival, is roughly twenty minutes west and works well as an evening outing. St. Jacobs Farmers' Market and the trails and villages of the Waterloo Region are a short drive northeast.
For families, Bingemans Campground in Kitchener puts guests next to the Bingemans Entertainment Complex, which includes Big Splash water park, K1 Speed go-karts, Kingpin bowling, axe throwing, and mini golf. On-site pools at properties like Nith River Campground help fill hot afternoons closer to camp.

Most private campgrounds around New Hamburg operate from roughly early May to mid-October, tracking the Ontario camping season. Nith River Campground, for example, runs from May through the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and Bingemans operates May through October. Outside those months, expect closed gates, winterized water systems, and limited or no services.
July and August are peak season. Weekends around Canada Day, the August Civic Holiday, and Labour Day fill first, and long weekends often require multi-night minimums at private parks. Humidity and thunderstorms are common in mid-summer, and Environment Canada frequently issues severe thunderstorm watches for the Waterloo Region.
May, June, September, and early October are quieter shoulder periods with cooler nights, fewer bugs after early summer, and easier last-minute availability. Fall colour typically peaks in the second half of October, though by then many private parks have already closed for the year.

We had such a wonderful stay! We rented the camper for a weekend with our family of 5, and there was plenty of space for everyone. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The camper was clean, and everything was set up and ready to go when we arrived, which made things so easy. Tony was a perfect host and took the time to show us everything we needed to know about the camper. He was friendly, helpful, and made the whole experience even better. We really enjoyed our weekend and would definitely rent again! Highly recommend! 😊

Wonderful experience. Arthur had every detail covered for the trailer drop off/pick up and went the extra mile to hook up a generator for a very hot weekend. The trailer was perfect. We would rent again in a heartbeat.

Booking and reservations
Private campgrounds around New Hamburg, including Nith River Campground, Country Gardens RV Park, Green Acre Park Campground, Willow Lake Campground and RV Park, and Bingemans Campground, are booked directly through each operator by phone, website, or email. Deposits are typical, and long weekends usually carry two or three night minimums.
For Ontario provincial parks used as day trips or overflow (Pinery, Rondeau, and others within driving range), reservations are made through the Ontario Parks system at reservations.ontarioparks.ca or 1-888-ONT-PARK. The booking window opens at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time, five months before the arrival date, and popular summer weekends can sell out within minutes of opening.
Book private sites eight to twelve weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Shoulder-season stays are usually easier to secure.
What to expect on site
Most parks in the New Hamburg area are mid-sized family campgrounds on rural acreage. Sites typically offer 30-amp and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, with pull-throughs available for larger rigs. Nith River Campground offers roughly 85 serviced sites with a mix of seasonal and overnight stays, which is representative of the region.
Expect flush toilets, hot showers, laundry, dump stations, and a swimming pool at most properties. Playgrounds, sports courts, planned family events on summer weekends, and pet-friendly policies are standard. Cell coverage is generally reliable, and Wi-Fi is offered at many parks near the site office.
The landscape is farmland and river valley rather than wilderness. Sites tend to be grassy and partly shaded, quiet hours are enforced, and highway noise is minimal at properties set back from main roads.

The roads around town, Highway 7/8 and the country routes through Wilmot Township are wide, flat, and far less stressful than driving in Toronto or Kitchener. Every RVezy host gives you a thorough walkthrough at pickup, covering how to extend the slides, dump tanks, hook up to shore power, and operate the propane and water systems. You'll have the host's number and 24/7 roadside assistance on speed dial throughout your trip. Pro tip: start with a shorter route like New Hamburg to Stratford or Bayfield to build confidence before tackling a longer Lake Huron loop.

Snap a photo of the RV's roadside assistance card and breaker panel during your walkthrough so you have both handy on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my New Hamburg RV rental across the border into the United States?
Often yes, cross-border travel is allowed with many RVezy New Hamburg hosts, but confirm directly on the listing or by messaging the host before booking, since insurance coverage must be cleared in advance. New Hamburg is about 200 km from the Sarnia to Port Huron border crossing, making US road trips into Michigan or Ohio very doable. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. When crossing into the US, bring your passport, the host's signed permission, vehicle ownership and insurance documents, and declare any food, plants, or firewood at the border. A popular RV road trip from New Hamburg is the Lake Huron Circle Tour through Michigan.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect and how do I budget for gas?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan for on a New Hamburg RV trip. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 mpg (about 11 to 13 L/100 km), Class C motorhomes around 10 to 14 mpg (17 to 24 L/100 km), and larger Class A rigs around 7 to 10 mpg (24 to 34 L/100 km). Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Gas prices in the Waterloo Region typically sit a few cents below Toronto, with stations along Highway 7/8 in New Hamburg and nearby Baden offering some of the most competitive rates. Pro tip: fill up in Wilmot Township before heading to Bruce Peninsula or Tobermory, where rural prices can run 10 to 15 cents per litre higher.

Driving conditions around New Hamburg are some of the friendliest in Ontario for RVers. Highway 7/8 through town is two-lane and well-maintained, with gentle terrain and minimal grades, ideal for first-timers getting used to a bigger rig. Watch for horse-drawn buggies on rural roads through Wilmot Township and St. Agatha — slow down, give wide berth, and pass only when it's safe. Winter (December through March) brings snow squalls off Lake Huron and the occasional whiteout, so most RV trips run May to October. Summer thunderstorms can roll through quickly. Pro tip: avoid driving through Kitchener-Waterloo during weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) and take Highway 401 east of Cambridge instead for smoother sailing.
