Campgrounds and RV parks near Oil Springs, ON

The Oil Museum of Canada in the village marks the site of North America's first commercial oil well. Williams struck oil when he was digging for water during a local drought, becoming the first person in North America to establish a commercial oil well. The museum's main building is open year-round and the outbuildings are open from May to October. It pairs well with a visit to the adjacent Fairbank Oil Fields, still an active oil-producing operation. Day trips from an Oil Springs base cover most of Lambton County. Pinery Provincial Park on Lake Huron is known for wide sand beaches, trails through rare oak savanna, and paddling on the Old Ausable Channel. Sarnia's waterfront on the St. Clair River, the beaches at Grand Bend, and Lake Huron sunsets are all within an easy drive.

The camping season in this part of southwestern Ontario runs roughly from May through October, with July and August by far the busiest months. If visiting Pinery on a day trip, note that Ontario Parks campsites generally do not offer sewer hookups at the site. Trailer sanitation stations with potable water are provided instead, so plan dump-station stops accordingly.
