Campgrounds and RV parks near Parkhill, ON

The main draw is Lake Huron. Pinery has 10 kilometres of beaches, with sand dunes above the lakeshore and hiking trails through the woods, and visitors can swim, bike, canoe, or kayak along the Old Ausable River Channel. Ipperwash Beach, near Sun Retreats Ipperwash, offers a flatter, family-oriented stretch of sand. Wildlife viewing is a strong secondary draw. Pinery's mix of oak savanna, Carolinian forest, wetlands, and dune habitats supports hundreds of bird species, with spring migration and warbler passage in May and June drawing birders from across the region. Inland, the Rock Glen Conservation Area in Arkona features a waterfall, fossil-hunting along the creek, and short hiking trails, all adjacent to Rock Glen Family Resort.

The core RV season in this area runs from the May long weekend through Canadian Thanksgiving in mid-October. At Pinery, the Dunes Campground provides a mix of electrical, pop-up trailer and tent sites from May to September, while Riverside Campground stays open year-round. Most private resorts follow a similar seasonal window, though Rock Glen Family Resort operates year-round with extended-season sites that include winter water, electricity, and sewer. Summer is by far the busiest period. As a beach destination, the park draws heavy traffic from June through Labour Day in early September, and weekends between late June and mid-August tend to sell out well in advance at both Pinery and the private parks nearby. September and October remain a favourite time to visit for cooler weather and thinner crowds. Winter camping is possible but limited. Riverside stays open for those who want to enjoy Pinery in all four seasons, and the park keeps a winterized comfort station in service. Expect snow, cold nights, and reduced amenities from December through March.

Pinery is a busy operation in peak season. There is a second checkpoint after the main gate, and each campground also has its own gatehouse, so budget extra time for check-in on Friday afternoons and long weekends. Electricity is available at many sites, but there are no water or sewage hookups at any of the campsites in the park. Two sanitation stations serve the whole park for dumping and freshwater fills, and each has a single lane. Private resorts in the area typically offer full or partial hookups, laundry, and pools. Rock Glen Family Resort has over 100 campsites with partial or full hook-ups plus twelve cabins, an indoor heated saltwater pool, an outdoor pool, and a fitness centre. Sites at Sun Retreats Ipperwash lean heavily toward seasonal RVs, so overnight availability there can be tighter than at fully transient parks.
