Campgrounds and RV parks near Point Edward, ON

Point Edward Waterfront Park sits under the Blue Water Bridge and is a common stop for watching freighters move between Lake Huron and the St. Clair River. The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail runs through the village on a multi-use path, linking to Sarnia's Centennial Park and continuing east to Canatara Park, an area of Carolinian forest, dunes, and sandy beach on Lake Huron. Across the bridge in Michigan, Fort Gratiot Lighthouse and the Port Huron waterfront add a half-day option. Lakeport State Park offers a designated swim area, playground, and beach frontage. Downtown Sarnia has restaurants, breweries, and shops within walking distance of the harbour. Chip trucks near the waterfront are a well-known local stop for families.

Peak RV season around Point Edward runs from late May through early October. July and August draw the largest crowds at both private resorts and Lakeport State Park, and weekend sites at shoreline campgrounds often book out well in advance. Weekday arrivals typically see noticeably lower occupancy. Spring opens gradually. Some private Ontario campgrounds do not open until the Victoria Day long weekend in May, and shoulder-season nights can still drop near freezing. Frost is common in southeast Michigan into early May. Fall brings cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and easier availability, with foliage along the Bluewater Trail typically peaking in mid-October. Winter camping options are very limited. Lakeport State Park closes its campground for the cold months, and most private RV parks in Lambton County shut by late October and reopen in April or May. Ice fishing remains popular along the Lake Huron shore, but overnight RV stays through winter are hard to find. Confirm operating dates directly with each campground before booking a shoulder-season trip.

Lakeport State Park is split between a north unit along the Lake Huron shoreline and a smaller south unit with a mix of pad types. Sites generally include a picnic table, fire circle, and electric service, with pull-through options available in the north campground. Quiet hours are enforced overnight, pets must stay leashed, and animals are not permitted on the swim beach. Private resorts near Point Edward generally offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and family amenities such as pools or playgrounds. Cell service is reliable across the Sarnia and Port Huron area. Travellers crossing the Blue Water Bridge should carry passports for every occupant and check current border wait times before departure.
