Campgrounds and RV parks near St. Catharines - Niagara Falls, ON

The Horseshoe Falls, Journey Behind the Falls, Niagara SkyWheel, and the Niagara City Cruises boat tours anchor most itineraries. Families often pair a day at the Falls with the Bird Kingdom aviary, MarineLand, or the Niagara Glen hiking trails along the gorge. Beyond the tourist strip, the Niagara Parkway runs along the river to Niagara-on-the-Lake, passing wineries, fruit stands, and the Whirlpool Aero Car. The Welland Canal in St. Catharines has a free viewing platform at Lock 3 where ocean-going ships transit, and Port Dalhousie offers a beach, pier, and antique carousel. Cyclists can ride the paved Greater Niagara Circle Route, which links the Welland Canal, the river, and Lake Erie. Short Hills Provincial Park, southwest of St. Catharines, sits in a region with well-draining soils and a climate suited to fruit growing, and offers waterfalls and hiking trails for a half-day trip.

Most private campgrounds in the Niagara region operate from roughly early May through mid-October, with a few opening in April and closing around Canadian Thanksgiving. Winter RV camping is limited: sites, water lines, and many attractions shut down once temperatures drop consistently below freezing, though the Falls themselves stay open year-round and the Winter Festival of Lights runs from November into January. July and August are peak season. Weekends fill weeks in advance, traffic on Lundy's Lane and the parkway is heavy, and site rates hit their annual high. Spring and early fall offer milder weather, thinner crowds, and easier reservations, with fall foliage along the parkway typically peaking in mid to late October. Spring can be wet and cool through May, and summer afternoon thunderstorms can add rain, making summer as rainy as autumn. Bug pressure is usually moderate compared with northern Ontario, but mosquitoes appear near wooded and canal-side sites in June.

Expect a busy, commercial tourist environment rather than a wilderness setting. Campgrounds near the Falls tend to have paved or gravel roads, tight but level sites, pools, playgrounds, and shuttle or trolley access to the tourist district. Big-rig access is generally good along the QEW, Lundy's Lane, and Victoria Avenue corridors. Cell service and Wi-Fi are reliable across the region. Grocery, propane, dump stations, and RV service are easy to find in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, and Welland. U.S. travelers crossing at the Rainbow, Peace, or Lewiston-Queenston bridges should carry passports, vehicle registration, and rental paperwork, and declare any firewood, produce, or alcohol. Traffic near the Falls slows sharply in late afternoon and during fireworks; leaving the tourist core before dinner usually shortens the drive back to camp.
