Camping near Stoney Point, Ontario
Stoney Point sits on the south shore of Lake St. Clair in the municipality of Lakeshore, in Ontario's Windsor-Essex County. The area is flat farm and lakefront country, roughly twenty minutes east of Windsor and the Detroit border crossing, with Highway 401 running just south of town for easy RV access.
Campground options split into two groups. Private lakeside resorts sit right on Lake St. Clair close to Stoney Point and Belle River, offering full-hookup RV sites, marinas, pools and golf. A short drive east on the Lake Erie shore near Wheatley adds a provincial park plus family-run campgrounds, giving renters access to two Great Lakes shorelines from one base.
Nearby options include Rochester Place Resort in Belle River, Lakeside Village Motel and Campground and Campers Cove Campground near Wheatley, Wheatley Provincial Park on Lake Erie, and Sturgeon Woods Campground and Marina. Together they cover big-rig full-hookup resorts, tree-shaded family sites and provincial-park camping within a 30 to 45 minute drive of Stoney Point.
Things to do near Stoney Point
Lake St. Clair is the main draw. Fishing is the headline activity, with the lake known for muskie, perch, bass and walleye. Boat launches, marinas and beaches are within a short drive, and sunsets over the lake are a nightly event for shoreline campers.
A half-hour east, Wheatley Provincial Park sits on Lake Erie with over 2 km of beach at the same latitude as northern California, and offers birding, canoeing, biking and camping. Point Pelee National Park, Canada's southernmost mainland point, is a further short drive and is famous for spring warbler migration and monarch butterfly staging in fall.
Golf, wineries and farm stands round out the day trips, and downtown Windsor adds restaurants, riverfront paths and the Caesars casino.

The RV season is essentially May through October. Rochester Place Resort operates May 1 to October 31, and Wheatley Provincial Park runs a similar recreational season from mid-April to late October. Most private parks around Stoney Point follow the same window and shut down for winter.
Summer is peak. July and the first half of August draw campers from Windsor, Detroit, London and beyond, and Wheatley in particular fills quickly, so booking through Ontario Parks as early as possible is advised, especially for July and the first two weeks of August. Long weekends across the whole season book out first.
Late May, June and September are the sweet spots for renters who want warm days, open beaches and easier reservations. Spring brings songbird migration on the Lake Erie shore, and fall adds cooler nights, monarch movement and quieter campgrounds before the October closures.

We just wrapped up a wonderful family reunion using Jose as our trailer host on our family property. Jose was great at communicating timing for delivery and pick up and when we had questions about the fridge and furnace, drove out of his way to help. The service was fantastic. I would recommend this camper for a park set up instead of off grid based on our own personal needs, but Jose and his trailer were really great! Thank you again!

The Camper was great and exactly what it was supposed to be we had a great time and can’t wait to use it again

Once again Dwayne has delivered to us another perfect trailer. It was clean, had heat for our chilly nights and plenty of space. It was delivered and picked up in a timely fashion. I'd highly recommend Dwayne and his crew.

The RV was perfect for me and my 2 children to camp in. Everything worked well and we had everything we needed. The host communicated very well, even caught that I hadn’t added propane as an add-on and helped me get it set up before the trip started. We had a great end of summer trip and appreciated the cleanliness and value of this RV rental.

How to book a campground near Stoney Point
Wheatley Provincial Park uses the Ontario Parks system. Reservations can be made online or by phone through reservations.ontarioparks.ca, and the booking window opens five months ahead of the arrival date at 7 a.m. Eastern Time. Popular summer weekends often sell out the morning they open.
Private parks like Rochester Place Resort, Campers Cove Campground, Lakeside Village Motel and Campground and Sturgeon Woods Campground and Marina each take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Many hold a large share of sites for seasonal campers, so the transient inventory for RV renters is limited and worth booking well ahead.
Check length limits before reserving. Boosey Creek Campground at Wheatley has narrow roadways where large trailers will have difficulty manoeuvring and is best suited for tents and camper vans, with larger loops accommodating small trailers.
What to expect
Terrain is flat and easy to drive. Highway 401 provides a straight run in from Toronto or Detroit, and county roads to lakeside campgrounds are paved. Cell coverage is strong across Windsor-Essex, and grocery, fuel and propane are available in Belle River, Tilbury and Leamington.
Hookups vary. Lakeside private resorts typically offer full-hookup sites with 30-amp service, laundry, showers and pools. Wheatley's Highlands Campground has 44 electrical and 31 non-electrical sites in a more open, less wooded setting, with water taps, a comfort station, laundry and a playground nearby, while Middle Creek is fully electrical.
Biting insects are a factor near creeks and marshes in early summer, and Lake Erie beach conditions can shift with wind and algae advisories, so it is worth checking the park's daily beach status before swimming.

ontarioparks.ca/park/wheatley/campingWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Stoney Point?
Stoney Point sits at the same latitude as northern California, giving it one of the longest, warmest RV seasons in Canada. Mid-May through early October is prime time, with July and August averaging highs around 27 to 29 C (80 to 84 F) and warm Lake St. Clair swimming. Late May and September are the sweet spot for value: comfortable 18 to 24 C days, fewer crowds, and lower nightly rates. Spring brings spectacular bird migration through nearby Point Pelee (a globally famous birding event in May), and autumn delivers Carolinian forest colours at Wheatley Provincial Park. Winters are cold with lake-effect snow, so most local hosts run April through October. Book May and June bird-migration trips early.
ontarioparks.ca/park/wheatleyI've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know what I'm doing?
Yes, and most first-time renters at Stoney Point are surprised how quickly it clicks. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup: they walk you through the engine, slide-outs, awning, propane, water systems, generator, and waste tanks before you ever pull away. Many also share a personal cheat sheet for their rig. You can message your host anytime during the trip with questions. The driving itself is friendly here: County Road 2 and Highway 401 are flat, well-paved, and easy compared to mountain routes out west. Pro tip: book a Class C motorhome or campervan for your first trip, they drive much like a large van and park easily at St. Clair Shores Campground.
ontario.ca/page/driving-recreational-vehicle-rvWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so one phone call brings help whether you are parked at Lighthouse Cove, exploring Point Pelee, or stopped on the shoulder of Highway 401 between Tilbury and Windsor. The service covers towing, tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, and emergency fuel delivery. Your host is also a direct resource, they know their rig best and can often troubleshoot small issues over the phone, like a tripped breaker or a finicky propane regulator. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip, and the Windsor area has plenty of RV service shops if anything bigger comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across the border to Detroit or other US destinations?
Often yes, and Stoney Point's location makes it tempting, you are only about 60 km from the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Cross-border travel into the United States is allowed by many RVezy hosts, but you must confirm with your specific host before booking since they have the final say and protection coverage may differ stateside. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Bring passports for everyone, the rental agreement, proof of protection, and vehicle registration. Pro tip: popular cross-border RV trips from Stoney Point include Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes, Ohio's Lake Erie islands, and the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn just over an hour away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Stoney Point RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so here's a realistic guide. Class B campervans average 10 to 14 L/100 km (around 17 to 24 MPG), Class C motorhomes burn 18 to 23 L/100 km (12 to 16 MPG), and Class A motorhomes use 22 to 30 L/100 km. Gas prices in Lakeshore typically run a few cents below Windsor and Toronto rates, with stations along County Road 42 and Highway 401 at Tilbury being convenient fill-up spots. For a long weekend exploring Wheatley, Point Pelee, and back (roughly 250 km), budget around $80 to $140 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: top up before crossing into the US, Ontario diesel is often cheaper than Michigan's.

Book early for the best campgrounds near Stoney Point, especially Ontario Parks sites. Wheatley Provincial Park opens reservations five months in advance through reservations.ontarioparks.ca, and creekside sites in the Two Creeks and Middle Creek campgrounds sell out fast for July and Canada Day long weekend. St. Clair Shores Campground in Stoney Point itself takes direct phone bookings and often has availability 2 to 4 weeks out for shoulder season. For Point Pelee day visits, reserve vehicle passes in advance during peak May bird migration. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday to Wednesday) are easier to snag at any Lake Erie or Lake St. Clair park, and prices are often the same as weekends.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are the local driving conditions like around Stoney Point?
Driving an RV around Stoney Point is refreshingly easy. The region is famously flat (Essex County is some of the flattest land in Ontario), with no mountain passes, switchbacks, or steep grades to worry about. Highway 401 runs just south of Stoney Point and connects you to Windsor, London, and Toronto on wide multi-lane stretches. County Road 2 along the lake is scenic and slow-paced. Summer brings occasional thunderstorms and strong Lake St. Clair winds, watch for crosswind gusts on the 401 in a tall Class A. Winter (December to March) brings lake-effect snow squalls, which is why most RV trips here run April through October. Stay alert near Tilbury where 401 traffic merges heavily.

For dump stations on the road, Wheatley PP is the most convenient public option locally. ontarioparks.ca/park/wheatley/campingWhat's typically included inside a Stoney Point RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how move-in ready RVezy rentals are. Many include a TV, generator, outdoor speakers, BBQ, camp chairs, and Wi-Fi hotspot or cellular booster. Linens and kitchen kits are often add-ons, ask the host. Pro tip: for a family RV trip Stoney Point with kids, filter by sleeps 6+ and look for rigs with bunk beds plus an outdoor awning, perfect for shaded afternoons at St. Clair Shores Campground.
ontario.ca/laws/regulation/900613What add-ons and pickup options should I look at when booking?
Hosts in the Stoney Point area get creative with add-ons that make your trip easier. Most hosts offer two pickup choices: meet at their address in Lakeshore, Belle River, or Tilbury, or pay for delivery directly to your campsite. Mileage policies are set per listing, typically 150 to 250 km per day included. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a bedding package if you're flying into Windsor, you can land and step into a fully prepped RV.
ontario.ca/page/consumer-protection-ontarioHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Booking your rent an RV in Stoney Point trip is straightforward and secure. Payment is processed entirely through RVezy by credit card, you never pay the host directly in cash, which protects both sides. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is held as a pre-authorization on your card before pickup (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV), not an actual charge. As long as you return the rig in the same condition, with the right fuel level, and within mileage limits, that hold is released after your trip ends. Pro tip: do a thorough photo walkthrough with your host at pickup and again at drop-off, it is the best way to avoid disputes and get your deposit cleared quickly.
