Campgrounds and RV parks near Sainte-Gertrude-Manneville, QC

Aiguebelle's headline features are geological: ancient volcanic pillows, giant potholes, and a watershed line that splits drainage between Hudson Bay and the Atlantic. Hiking trails climb the Abijévis hills to twin-hill viewpoints and a suspension footbridge over Lac La Haie. Paddle surfing is offered through the summer on Lac Matissard and Lac Loïs at the Abijévis and Ojibway campgrounds. Lac Matissard supports fishing for walleye and northern pike, and a sandy shoreline at the campground is suited to swimming. Guided canoe outings with a park warden let visitors cross the watershed divide that gives Abitibi its name, meaning 'where the waters separate' in Algonquin. Evening astronomy programs at the Abijévis community hall and a fireside fire-warden interpretive session round out the family program.

The Aiguebelle camping season at Abijévis on Lac Matissard typically runs from mid-May to mid-October, with the 2026 dates listed as May 16 through October 13. June through August is the peak window: long daylight, warm afternoons, swimmable lake temperatures, and full operation of the discovery centre, boat rentals, and guided programs. Black flies and mosquitoes peak from late May into early July, so head nets and repellent are useful for early-season trips. September brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and fall colour in the boreal mixedwood, but it is also the wettest month of the year in this part of Abitibi, with Amos averaging well over 100 mm in September. The north sector at Ojibway-Barlow is summer-access only, while the south Mont-Brun entrance is open year-round for winter visitors. Snowshoeing trails are on offer in winter, the Discovery and Interpretation Centre is transformed into a rest area, and cabins accessible by car offer comfortable overnight stays.

The Abijévis campground on Lac Matissard has a capacity of 47 sites with or without services, plus showers, a fire-pit area, firewood, a convenience store, and a beach. Sites include serviced and unserviced options, with amenities such as a children's playground, sandy shoreline, watercraft rental, hiking trails, a convenience store, a Boutique Nature, and ready-to-camp Huttopia tents. Sites are set in mature boreal forest close to the lake, and the sandy beach is within walking distance of the campground. Cell coverage is limited inside the park. The Ojibway-Barlow campground in the north sector, on Lac Loïs, is the dog-friendly option in the park. The south entrance is paved and suitable for towed RVs.
