Camping near Scottsboro, Alabama
Scottsboro sits in Jackson County in northeast Alabama, on the Tennessee River where it widens into Lake Guntersville. The surrounding Cumberland Plateau country puts RV travelers within reach of large-lake shorelines, Sand Mountain overlooks, and secluded canyon terrain, all within a short drive of town.
Most camping options here are lake-oriented. Jackson County Park & Marina sits directly on the Tennessee River with full-hookup sites, cabins, and a marina. Crawford RV Park operates on the south side of Scottsboro as a full-hookup park geared to longer stays. Lake Ridge Campground is a private, long-term campground in the Goose Pond area. Windemere Cove RV Resort is a gated lakefront resort in Langston on Lake Guntersville with a pool, clubhouse, and private boat launch.
For state-park camping, Buck's Pocket State Park sits atop Sand Mountain across DeKalb, Jackson, and Marshall counties, with a renovated campground, primitive sites, and an OHV trail. It is the closest Alabama State Park camping to Scottsboro.
Things to do around Scottsboro
Water activities dominate the area. Lake Guntersville and the Tennessee River draw bass anglers, boaters, and swimmers through the warm months. Jackson County Park & Marina has a boat launch, fuel dock, walking trails, playground, and an on-site restaurant. Windemere Cove RV Resort has a private launch, pool, and lakefront boardwalk.
On land, Buck's Pocket State Park offers more than 15 miles of hiking trails, the Point Rock overlook, and a 6-mile OHV trail through hardwood forest. Bald eagles are regularly spotted around Lake Guntersville in winter.
In town, the Unclaimed Baggage Center is a well-known Scottsboro attraction, and Cathedral Caverns State Park, Little River Canyon National Preserve, and Lake Guntersville State Park are all within reasonable driving distance for day trips.

Peak camping season runs March through October, matching the Alabama State Parks in-season window at Buck's Pocket. Book earlier for spring holiday weekends.
Summer is hot and humid, with highs regularly in the upper 80s Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Lakefront sites at Jackson County Park & Marina and Windemere Cove RV Resort are in strong demand for Independence Day and Labor Day, both of which typically require multi-night minimums at state-park campgrounds like Buck's Pocket.
Fall cools off gradually and delivers some of the driest, most stable weather of the year, with color across the plateau in late October and early November. Winter is generally mild but wet, with January lows near freezing and December among the wettest months. Snow is rare. Some private parks reduce services in winter, while Jackson County Park & Marina stays open year-round.

MICHAEL M. - Oct 2025
Jeremy was a pleasure to work with. He had some issues with the camper from a previous renter, but communicated these with me in detail. He was very helpful throughout the rental and answered questions. He was an honest and reputable owner. I would rent from him again in a second!! Thank you Jeremy!

Lori was very accommodating and patient as our arrival time went astray and we arrived much later than we wanted. Since this was my first time renting, I was a bit ignorant of everything but she was great about walking me through everything I needed to know and was communicative during the entire process!

Lorie was great to work with. The camper was super clean and stocked with goodies. Will be booking again with Lorie!!!!

How to book campgrounds near Scottsboro
Buck's Pocket State Park takes reservations online through the Alabama State Parks system at reserve.alapark.com, by phone at the park office, or in person. Sites can be booked up to a year in advance, and cancellations must be made at least 72 hours before arrival to keep the deposit. Check-in is 2 PM and check-out is 11 AM.
Jackson County Park & Marina takes campsite and cabin reservations by phone through its main office and also lists availability on Campspot. Windemere Cove RV Resort books RV lots directly through its resort office and website.
For holiday weekends and prime bass-tournament dates on Guntersville, reserve waterfront sites well in advance. Crawford RV Park and Lake Ridge Campground operate largely as long-stay parks, so call ahead to confirm short-stay availability.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near the lake tend to be level with paved or concrete pads. Windemere Cove RV Resort is gated with paved lots, a clubhouse, and a pool, but has limited shade and no on-site camp store, so stock up in Scottsboro or Guntersville first. Jackson County Park & Marina offers full hookups on and off the water, plus laundry, showers, and a general store.
Buck's Pocket has 23 improved campsites on 16-by-60-foot concrete pads, 13 with sewer hookups and 4 of those pull-through, plus 11 primitive sites, a bathhouse, and a dump station. Each improved site has a picnic table, fire pit, and grill.
Cell service is generally reliable near town and Lake Guntersville but can drop off inside the canyon at Buck's Pocket. Bring bug spray in summer, and watch for deer on rural roads at dawn and dusk.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Scottsboro, AL?
An RV rental in Scottsboro is one of the most affordable ways to explore Lake Guntersville and the Tennessee River Valley. On RVezy, expect roughly $90 to $160 per night for travel trailers and pop-ups, $150 to $225 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $325 for larger Class A coaches. Travel trailers tend to be the cheap RV rental Scottsboro option for budget-minded families. Pro tip: many Scottsboro hosts drop weekly rates by 10 to 20 percent, so if you're planning a fishing week on Lake Guntersville, ask about a multi-night discount before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Scottsboro,AlabamaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Scottsboro?
Great news for first-time renters: Alabama does not require a special license or CDL to drive a personal-use RV, so a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Scottsboro. You'll also need to be at least 25 years old to be an approved driver on RVezy, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the United States? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly. Most guests are surprised how simple licensing is for a Scottsboro RV trip, even if you've never driven anything bigger than an SUV.

Every RV rental in Scottsboro, AL booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head to Lake Guntersville with real peace of mind. Roadside help covers flat tires, jump starts, lockouts, and towing if something goes sideways on US-72 or up the mountain to Lake Guntersville State Park. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers during booking and pick the level that matches your comfort, then click book and start planning your fishing trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Scottsboro RV booking?
RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), so the same rules apply to every listing and you can lock in your Scottsboro RV trip with confidence. Refund amounts depend on how far in advance of your trip you cancel, and the policy also accounts for things like severe weather, which matters in north Alabama tornado season. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit. If your plans shift, contact RVezy support through your booking. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Lake Guntersville waterfront sites, knowing the platform-wide policy gives you a clear path if life changes before your trip.

Scottsboro city limits has a leash law, so pack a 6-foot lead. Sauta Cave National Wildlife Refuge nearby is a fun on-leash walk for sniffy dogs. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee or breed notes, then bring a towel for muddy paws after Tennessee River swims.
alapark.com/parks/lake-guntersville-state-park/campingCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Scottsboro?
Yes, and it's one of the easiest ways to do your first trip. Many Scottsboro hosts offer RV delivery, meaning they'll tow or drive the RV to Goose Pond Colony Resort, Lake Guntersville State Park, Jackson County Park, or even a private lakefront property, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. You skip the driving entirely and just show up with groceries and a cooler. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see which listings include it, and check each host's delivery radius and fee (often a flat rate within 25 to 50 miles). Pro tip: delivery to Goose Pond Colony is a favorite combo because you wake up steps from Lake Guntersville with zero setup stress.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Scottsboro,AlabamaHow far can I drive on a Scottsboro RV trip and is unlimited mileage available?

alapark.com/parks/lake-guntersville-state-park/campingWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Scottsboro?
Spring and fall are the sweet spot. Mid-March through May brings wildflowers, dogwoods, and daytime highs in the 65-80°F range, perfect for an RV trip Scottsboro travelers will actually want to spend outside. Late September through early November is just as gorgeous, with crisp 55-75°F days and bald eagles returning to Lake Guntersville (peak eagle viewing is January-February if cold-weather camping appeals). Summer is warm and humid (highs 88-92°F with afternoon thunderstorms), great for swimming and bass fishing but you'll lean on the air conditioning. Winters are mild (40s-50s) and most local campgrounds stay open year-round. Pro tip: aim for the Eagle Awareness Weekends at Lake Guntersville State Park in January, a uniquely Scottsboro experience.
weather.gov/hun/I'm first time renting an RV. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and Scottsboro is actually one of the easier places in the Southeast to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, awning, slide-outs, dump procedures, and generator if equipped, so you're never figuring it out alone. Roads around Scottsboro are mostly flat, two-to-four-lane state highways (think US-72 and AL-35) with light traffic compared to a major metro. For your first night, pick Goose Pond Colony or Jackson County Park, both have wide pull-through sites that forgive rookie parking. Pro tip: ask your host to show you the leveling and dump steps twice, snap a quick video on your phone, and you'll feel like a pro by night two of your Scottsboro RV trip.
nps.gov/articles/rv-camping.htmWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip near Scottsboro?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on US-72, a dead battery at Goose Pond Colony, or a lockout at the Cathedral Caverns parking lot is one phone call away from being handled. Roadside covers towing, jump starts, tire service, lockouts, and fuel delivery. For mechanical issues, message your host directly through the RVezy app, they know their RV best and can troubleshoot fast. RVezy customer support is also reachable before, during, and after the trip if you need a hand. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone contacts at pickup and note the closest service station (there's a Pilot just off US-72), so you're ready before anything happens.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Scottsboro RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is the whole point of an RV road trip from Scottsboro, and most hosts welcome it. Popular cross-state runs include Chattanooga, TN (65 miles, about 75 minutes), Nashville, TN (135 miles), the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about 210 miles), and Atlanta, GA (about 165 miles). Travel into Canada may be allowed with advance host approval and may have insurance implications, so always confirm in writing through RVezy messaging before you cross the border. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a 4 to 7 day loop from Scottsboro through Chattanooga, the Smokies, and back via Huntsville is a classic Southeast itinerary that's totally doable in a Class C.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will I spend on fuel for a Scottsboro RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's manageable. Expect roughly 8-10 MPG for Class A motorhomes, 10-14 MPG for Class C, 18-22 MPG for Class B campervans, and 12-16 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. Gas prices in north Alabama tend to run a bit below the national average, with stations in Scottsboro along US-72 and South Broad Street typically among the cheapest in Jackson County. For a 4-day, 300-mile loop in a Class C at $3.00/gallon, budget about $90 in fuel. Pro tip: GasBuddy consistently shows Murphy USA and Sam's Club in Huntsville (about 40 miles west) as the lowest prices, worth a fill-up if you're passing through.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground around Scottsboro?
For peak weekends, book early. Lake Guntersville State Park accepts reservations up to one year in advance through reserve.alapark.com, and waterfront sites fill 6 to 9 months out for spring, summer, and fall weekends. Goose Pond Colony Resort handles campground reservations directly. For weekday or shoulder-season stays, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually plenty, and Jackson County Park and Crawford RV Park often have last-minute availability. Eagle Awareness Weekends in January and major bass tournaments on Lake Guntersville can sell out the entire area, so plan those 4 or more months ahead. Pro tip: pair your RVezy booking with your campground reservation confirmation in hand, and have your host's delivery confirmed too, so check-in is seamless.
reserve.alapark.com/What are the driving conditions like around Scottsboro?
You'll find Scottsboro very RV-friendly. The main arteries (US-72, AL-35, AL-79) are wide, well-maintained, and lightly trafficked compared to big-city driving. The one thing to know: Lake Guntersville State Park sits on a bluff with a winding mountain entrance road, so take it slow in a larger Class A and downshift on the descent. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can be intense in north Alabama, so check the forecast and pull over if storms get rough. Watch for occasional deer crossings at dawn and dusk along rural routes. Pro tip: plan to be off mountain roads before dark on your first night, and use the AL-35 bridge over the Tennessee River for a scenic, easy approach into Scottsboro.
dot.state.al.us/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Scottsboro?
Most local campgrounds are well-equipped. Lake Guntersville State Park offers 282 improved sites with water and electric (50/30-amp), many with sewer hookups, plus seven bathhouses, a splash pad, beach, camp store, and on-site dump stations. Goose Pond Colony has 147+ full-hookup sites with three bathhouses, Wi-Fi, cable TV, a marina, fish-cleaning station, and the Docks restaurant on-site. Crawford RV Park provides concrete pads, 30/50-amp full hookups, 64-channel cable, and free Wi-Fi. Potable water fills and dump stations are easy to find at all three. Pro tip: top off fresh water at your campground before heading out, the nearest public dump and fill station after that is at the Pilot on US-72 if you're doing a longer Scottsboro RV trip.
alapark.com/parks/lake-guntersville-state-park/campingWhat's inside the RVs available for rent in Scottsboro?
You'll get a fully equipped home on wheels. Most Scottsboro listings, whether a campervan rental Scottsboro Class B or a family-size motorhome rental Scottsboro Class C, include a real bed (or two), a kitchenette with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-top air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Larger Class A and fifth wheels often add slide-outs, full kitchens, a separate bedroom, a TV, and a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi varies by listing (Verizon and AT&T both cover Scottsboro well). Each listing on RVezy lists exact sleep count, amenities, and seatbelts. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and check the photo gallery, then message the host about anything specific like a Blackstone griddle for lakeside breakfasts.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and pickup options should I expect with my RV rental?
Scottsboro hosts make trips easy with practical add-ons. Common extras (with typical fees) include linens and bedding packages ($25-50), kitchen kits ($25), camp chairs and outdoor rugs ($15-30), portable generators ($25/day), bike racks, kayak racks, and propane fire pits. Pickup is usually at the host's home or storage lot in or around Scottsboro, with a 30-60 minute walkthrough included. Many hosts offer RV delivery to Goose Pond Colony, Lake Guntersville State Park, or your private property for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, some are unlimited, others include 100-150 miles/day. Pro tip: ask about a Tennessee River fishing kit or kayak add-on, several local hosts specialize in lake-ready gear that turns a basic booking into a stocked adventure.
alabama.travel/How does payment and the security deposit work for an RVezy rental in Scottsboro?
It's straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy at checkout using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before your trip and released back to your card after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape, typically within a few days of return. Choosing a higher protection plan level during booking can reduce out-of-pocket exposure if something happens. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with your host at pickup AND drop-off (tires, exterior, interior, mileage, fuel), it takes 3 minutes and is the single best way to keep your Scottsboro RV rental deposit return smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Scottsboro?
You're perfectly positioned for an epic RV road trip from Scottsboro. Top picks: Chattanooga, TN (65 miles, ~75 min) for Lookout Mountain, Rock City, and the Tennessee Aquarium; Huntsville, AL (40 miles, ~45 min) for the US Space & Rocket Center; Nashville, TN (135 miles, ~2.5 hrs) for music and honky-tonks; Great Smoky Mountains National Park (~210 miles, ~3.5 hrs) for the most-visited national park in America; and Cathedral Caverns State Park (25 miles, ~30 min) for one of the world's largest cave entrances. Closer to home, the family RV trip Scottsboro favorite is a slow loop around Lake Guntersville's 69,000 acres.
