Campgrounds and RV parks near New Kingman-Butler, AZ

The area is a working base for Route 66 sightseeing, ghost-town day trips, and mountain hiking. Downtown Kingman anchors one of the longest surviving stretches of original Route 66, with car museums, diners, and murals within a short drive of every campground on the list. Day trips reach the burro town of Oatman over the Black Mountains, the historic mining settlement of Chloride, Lake Havasu and the London Bridge to the south, and Hoover Dam and Las Vegas up US-93. Hualapai Mountain Park covers over 2,300 acres with elevations ranging from roughly 4,984 to 8,417 feet, offering pine-shaded hiking, disc golf, and a marked temperature drop from the desert floor. Grand Canyon West and the Skywalk on Hualapai tribal land are reachable as a long day trip northeast of town.

Kingman has a high-desert climate with hot summers, mild winters, and a strong shoulder season. The best time of year to visit is mid-March through May and mid-October through November, when daytime highs sit in the seventies and overnight lows stay comfortable for sleeping without heavy climate control. Summer highs in July commonly reach the upper nineties to low hundreds in town, so plan on running the air conditioner hard or heading up to Hualapai Mountain Park, where cooler pine-country temperatures come with the higher elevation. Summer monsoon storms from July through September can produce brief but intense thunderstorms and flash floods in washes, so RVers should avoid dry-camping in low-lying drainages during that window. Winter is mild, with daytime highs in the upper fifties and overnight lows near freezing, which is ideal for quiet campgrounds and clear stargazing skies. Occasional light snow can reach the higher elevations, and the Hualapai Mountain Park RV campground operates seasonally from May 1 to October 31.

Roads are generally RV-friendly. Interstate 40 through Kingman is wide and well-maintained, and US-93 toward Las Vegas and Hoover Dam is a smooth four-lane drive, though crosswinds can gust hard through open desert stretches. Historic Route 66 west toward Oatman climbs the Black Mountains with tight switchbacks and steep grades, so it is better suited to campervans and smaller Class Cs than to large Class A motorhomes. Expect full hookups at most in-town parks, with 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer standard at Kingman KOA Journey, Blake Ranch RV Park and Horse Motel, and Fort Beale RV Park. Most parks also offer Wi-Fi, laundry, and a dump station. One quirk to plan around: Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time, so double-check times when crossing into Nevada or Utah.
