Campgrounds and RV parks near Cherry Valley, AR

Fishing anchors most trips. Lake Poinsett holds bass, crappie, bream, and catfish across a 640-acre reservoir with a boat ramp, rental boats, and a bait shop on site. Lake Frierson covers 335 acres and is fished for bream, catfish, crappie, saugeye, and bass, with fishing boats, kayaks, and pedal boats available for rent at the visitor center. Hiking and multi-use trails are concentrated at Village Creek State Park, which offers seven miles of hiking trails and 25 miles of multi-use trails, including a preserved segment of the Trail of Tears along the Old Military Road. The park also operates The Ridges at Village Creek, a 27-hole championship public golf course on Crowley's Ridge. For a day trip, RVers can drive to Memphis for Graceland, Beale Street, and the National Civil Rights Museum.

Peak camping season runs March through November, when Arkansas state parks operate on full schedules and visitor centers keep extended daily hours. Spring brings dogwood bloom on Crowley's Ridge and strong fishing, but it is also a wet stretch of the year, with frequent thunderstorms and occasional severe weather, so RVers should watch forecasts carefully. Summer is hot and humid, with July highs averaging around 90 degrees Fahrenheit and afternoon thunderstorms possible. Shaded, wooded sites at Village Creek State Park and Lake Poinsett State Park are useful in this heat. Weekends fill fastest at the state parks, particularly Loop B at Village Creek where the full-hookup sites are located. Fall from mid-September through October is generally the most comfortable window, with mild days, lower humidity, and foliage color across the ridge. Winter is quieter: campgrounds stay open year-round at Lake Poinsett, Village Creek, and Lake Frierson, though showers and bathhouses may run on reduced schedules and visitor center hours drop from December through February.

Expect a mix of small, quiet state park campgrounds and roadside private parks rather than large resort-style properties. Lake Poinsett State Park has a compact layout of 29 sites, with 26 offering water and electric hookups on gravel pads plus three tent sites, picnic tables, fire pits with cooking grates, and a dump station near the visitor center; there are no sewer connections at individual sites. Lake Frierson State Park is smaller still, with seven campsites total and only four offering water and electric, and it has no showers and no dump station on property, so RVers should arrive with tanks emptied. Village Creek State Park is the largest and most developed option, with Loop B offering full hookups on concrete pads and Loop A providing water and electric on paved pads. Cell service can be spotty on Crowley's Ridge. Memphis KOA Journey delivers a more traditional private-park experience with a pool, camp store, and long pull-through sites suited to big rigs.
