Campgrounds near Diaz, Arkansas
Diaz sits in Jackson County in northeast Arkansas, just north of Newport along U.S. 67. The area is flat Delta country transitioning toward the Ozark foothills, with the White and Black Rivers shaping the local landscape and driving most of the outdoor recreation.
RV options within a short drive range from state park campgrounds to small private parks. Jacksonport State Park sits at the confluence of the White and Black Rivers and offers 20 Class A campsites with 50-amp electrical service and water hookups, suitable for RVs up to 45 feet, operating year-round though restroom facilities are only available March through November. About an hour northwest, Lake Charles State Park encompasses a 645-acre lake and a year-round campground near Powhatan, with Loop C providing water, 50-amp electric, and sewer connections while Loops A and B offer 30-amp electric and water.
Private options include Rock Town RV Campground in Sulphur Rock, Shady Oaks RV and Mobile Home Park, and The Ranch RV Park, which handle full-hookup RV stays for travelers who want simpler in-and-out access to U.S. 67 and Newport-area services.
Things to do near Diaz
Water-based recreation drives the trip list. Jacksonport State Park pairs Arkansas history in the Visitor Center and restored 1869 Courthouse exhibits with outdoor recreation along the White River, including camping, a swimming beach, a nature trail, and picnicking. The Tunstall Riverwalk, a half-mile paved trail along the river, provides easy walking access and scenic overlooks.
At Lake Charles State Park, fishing is the headline activity. The 645-acre lake supports bass, crappie, bream, and catfish fishing, with a dedicated fishing pier accessible via paved path from the campground. The park offers trails for walking and hiking ranging from easy to moderate difficulty, plus picnic areas, a playground, a screened pavilion, fishing and boat docks, and a nature center.
Newport itself has grocery, fuel, and hardware stops for restocking, and the surrounding farmland roads suit slow scenic drives.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for camping in Jackson County. Daytime temperatures are comfortable, insect pressure is lower, and river levels are usually manageable. Spring can bring thunderstorms and locally heavy rain, so travelers should watch White and Black River gauges before setting up at riverside sites.
Summer is hot and humid, and the region regularly draws heat advisories from the National Weather Service. Biting insects are a real factor at lakeside parks: flies, mosquitoes, and ants are common at some sites, so campers should be prepared, particularly from May through September.
Winter is mild by northern standards but wet. The Jacksonport State Park campground and picnic area are open all year, with restrooms open March through November, so cold-season RVers should plan for onboard facilities. Lake Charles State Park loops remain open year-round as well, though water service may be limited in the coldest months.
How to book campgrounds near Diaz
Arkansas State Parks handles reservations for both Jacksonport State Park and Lake Charles State Park through a single system. Reservations can be made online at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com up to one year in advance, or by phone through the individual park office. Weekend reservations require a two-night minimum, and holiday weekends require three nights.
Summer weekends and holidays fill first, especially waterfront loops at Lake Charles. Booking well ahead is advised for Class AAA lakefront sites in Loop C and for Jacksonport's small 20-site loop.
Private parks such as Rock Town RV Campground, Shady Oaks RV and Mobile Home Park, and The Ranch RV Park take bookings directly with the operator. Confirm rig length limits and hookup type when reserving.
What to expect
Sites in the state parks are generally level and shaded. A dump station is located near the park exit at Jacksonport, and sites are well-maintained with grass and shade trees, with several sites backing up to the White River.
Road access to Lake Charles requires attention. The park sits along narrow country roads that call for careful navigation, particularly for larger RVs, though the drive leads to three distinct camping loops with varying amenities. Sites there accommodate RVs up to about 60 feet, though some spaces are tighter than the maximum suggests.
Expect rural cellular coverage, limited on-site stores, and quiet nights. The Lake Charles visitor center stocks camping supplies, live bait, and snacks, so anglers arriving outside peak season should still plan to pack extras before leaving Newport.
