Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake City, AR

Fishing drives most trips in this part of Arkansas. Lake Frierson is a 335-acre lake with year-round fishing for bream, catfish, crappie, saugeye, and bass, and fishing boats, kayaks, and pedal boats are available for rent at the park. Crowley's Ridge State Park adds swimming and hiking to the mix. The designated swimming area on the 3.5-acre, spring-fed Lake Ponder has a sandy beach and operates seasonally from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, closed Mondays and Tuesdays outside major holidays. Trails wind through hardwood forest and pass CCC-era stone-and-log structures, including a bathhouse listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Lake Poinsett State Park offers boat rentals, easy trails, and interpretive programs suited to families with younger children.

Northeast Arkansas has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are long, hot, and muggy with heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms, winters are short and cool with occasional snowfall, and the area is fairly wet overall with spring the wettest season. Plan for storm delays and severe-weather watches in April and May. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel. April, September, and October bring the most favorable weather, with daytime highs generally between 22 and 29 degrees Celsius. Wild dogwoods bloom on Crowley's Ridge in spring, and fall brings hardwood color across the state parks. Summer is peak season for swimming and lake activities, but travelers should expect heat, humidity, and mosquitos. Winter is quiet: visitor centers at smaller parks like Lake Frierson shift to reduced off-peak hours from December through February, and campsites are easier to book on short notice.

Expect small, wooded state park campgrounds rather than large resort-style properties. Crowley's Ridge State Park offers roughly 18 RV and tent sites with 30-amp electric and water hookups plus additional tent-only sites, a bathhouse with hot showers, and a dump station in the campground area. The paved loop can accommodate longer rigs, though some individual pads are tight. Lake Frierson has just seven sites: four with 30-amp electric and water and three tent sites with no hookups. There are no showers and no dump station on-site, and large rigs will not fit comfortably. Cell coverage can be spotty for some carriers. Bring bug spray in warmer months and confirm rig length limits before booking.
