Campgrounds near Lockesburg, Arkansas
Lockesburg sits in Sevier County in the southwest corner of Arkansas, within short driving distance of two of the region's marquee RV destinations: Millwood Lake and Crater of Diamonds State Park. The surrounding landscape is a mix of pine and hardwood forest, farmland, and river bottoms fed by the Little River and nearby drainages. Most campers stage here to fish, hunt for gemstones, or explore the Ouachita foothills to the north.
RV options are split between full-service private resorts and lakeside state park loops. Millwood Landing Golf and RV Resort and Castle Keepers RV Resort provide amenity-rich private stays, while Millwood State Park offers water-and-electric and full-hookup sites on a well-known bass, crappie, and catfish fishery. River Camp RV and Murfeesboro RV Park serve travelers pushing north toward the Little Missouri River corridor and Crater of Diamonds.
De Queen, Ashdown, and Murfreesboro are the closest towns for fuel, groceries, and propane, and each is within roughly a 30-to-45 minute drive of Lockesburg.
Things to do near Lockesburg
Fishing anchors most trips. Millwood Lake covers roughly 29,000 acres and is known for largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish, with boat lanes cut through submerged timber. Millwood State Park is also a National Audubon Society Important Bird Area, with more than 300 of the state's 400-plus recorded species seen at the lake, making it a strong stop for birders.
About an hour north, Crater of Diamonds State Park lets visitors search a 37-acre plowed field and keep any diamonds, amethyst, jasper, or quartz they find. The park also has a seasonal water park, walking trails, and a visitor center where staff help identify finds.
Day trips also reach the Little Missouri River, Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area, and the small-town shops of Murfreesboro and De Queen.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Lockesburg. March through May brings mild days, wildflower blooms, active crappie fishing on Millwood, and green woods, though it is also the wettest stretch of the year and severe thunderstorms are common. April and May generate most of the region's tornado and hail reports, so a weather radio is worth packing.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs regularly in the low 90s Fahrenheit and heat indices higher. Lake use peaks, the seasonal Diamond Springs Water Park at Crater of Diamonds runs during summer, and shaded sites book earliest. Bring shade, water, and bug repellent.
Fall cools noticeably after mid-September and delivers a reliable stretch of dry, comfortable camping weather. Winters are short and mild rather than harsh; state park campgrounds at Millwood and Crater of Diamonds stay open year-round, though the marina and water park operate on reduced or seasonal schedules.
How to book
Arkansas State Parks handles reservations for both Millwood State Park and Crater of Diamonds State Park through its central system at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com, or by phone with the park office. Sites at both parks can be booked in advance and often fill on weekends from spring through fall, with a non-refundable deposit equal to the first night's rate. Stays are capped at 14 nights within a 30-day period.
Private parks such as Millwood Landing Golf and RV Resort, Castle Keepers RV Resort, River Camp RV, and Murfeesboro RV Park book directly through their own offices or websites. For holiday weekends, spring bass tournaments on Millwood, and diamond-digging trips after heavy rain, reserving four to eight weeks out is recommended.
What to expect
Roads into the campgrounds around Lockesburg are paved and generally big-rig friendly, but interior loops at the state parks can be tight. Millwood State Park's Loop A has a 40-foot length limit and a one-way road system with a single pull-through, while Loop B accepts rigs up to 50 feet. Crater of Diamonds accommodates rigs up to about 45 feet on its Class AAA full-hookup sites.
Expect water and electric at most state park sites, with full hookups available in the full-hookup section at Millwood, at Crater of Diamonds, and at the private resorts. Dump stations are on site at both state parks. Cell coverage is workable in town but can be spotty at lakeside loops.
Pets are allowed on leash at both state parks. Pack for humidity, biting insects in summer, and quick-moving thunderstorms in spring.
