Campgrounds and RV parks near Luxora, AR

The Mississippi River drives most outdoor activity in the area. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park sits atop the scenic Chickasaw Bluffs and features more than 20 miles of hiking and biking trails through cypress swamps and hardwood forests, and Poplar Tree Lake provides fishing and boat rentals. The park also offers paddling, disc golf, bird watching, and horseback riding. Fort Pillow adds Civil War history to a trip. The park combines scenic bluff-top views with a landscape shaped by centuries of history and cultural significance, and visitors can explore historic fortifications, hike the trail system, and enjoy views of the river. A museum, interpretive trails, and a 25-acre lake round out the visit. Closer to Luxora, families use the town as a launch point for day trips to Memphis for barbecue, Beale Street, and the National Civil Rights Museum, or north to Blytheville for shopping and casual dining.

Northeast Arkansas has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and winters are cold, indicating a strong seasonal contrast, and rainfall is spread fairly evenly through the year, though heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms occur during the warmer months. Spring is the wettest stretch and also peak severe-weather season, with thunderstorms and occasional tornado watches from March into May. Summer brings reliably hot, humid days in the 90s Fahrenheit. Shade matters at forested state parks like Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park and Fort Pillow State Park, where dense hardwood canopy keeps sites cooler than open lots. Insect pressure, especially mosquitoes and ticks, is highest from late spring through early fall along the river bottoms. Fall is the most comfortable season for RV travel, with warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity through October. Winter camping is possible but variable: freezes and occasional ice storms occur, and Mississippi River fog is common on cold mornings. Book shoulder-season weekends early, since Memphis-area state parks fill quickly.

Expect a mix of rural infrastructure and forested state-park settings. At Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, RV and tent sites include tables, grills, and electric and water hookups, several sites add sewer, and a dump station serves the rest. A playground, community fire pit, pavilion, and multiple bathhouses sit central to the campground. At Fort Pillow, the Family Campground has fifteen campsites that accommodate RVs and campers with 20, 30, 50-amp electrical and water hookups, and the sites vary in length, and some can accommodate rigs up to 60 feet. There are six sites with 20-amp electrical hookups and water stations in close proximity to each site. The campground is trashcan free and has a dump station, a dumpster, recycling bins, and a spot for gray and black water, conveniently located at the entrance to the campground. Cell service is generally reliable near Luxora and thinner inside the forested state parks. Bring heat-treated firewood, since both Tennessee parks restrict outside untreated wood.
