Campgrounds and RV parks near Madison, AR

Madison sits in eastern Arkansas between Crowley's Ridge to the west and the Mississippi River delta to the east, putting RV travelers within easy reach of two very different camping environments. Public campgrounds in state parks and national forest land dominate the Arkansas side, while casino RV parks across the river in the Tunica, Mississippi area offer full-hookup convenience close to Memphis. The closest state park option is Village Creek State Park, which encompasses nearly 7,000 acres of forested hills and clear streams, with campgrounds and bathhouses, an equestrian campground with stable facilities, 10 cabins, two lakes, a day-use area, outdoor and indoor theaters, a small museum, and a visitor center. Farther east, Lone Pine Campground within Mississippi River State Park near Marianna offers a primitive camping experience amidst the natural beauty of the St. Francis National Forest, and Storm Creek Lake Recreational Area provides another quiet lakeside base. For RVers who prefer paved pads and full hookups over primitive sites, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Park and Sams Town Gambling Hall RV Park sit across the Mississippi River in the Tunica casino corridor, roughly a half-hour drive from Madison.

Arkansas State Parks handle reservations through a central system. Sites at Village Creek State Park can be booked online through the Arkansas State Parks reservation portal or by phone. For reservations and more information, the park can be contacted at 870-238-9406 or [email protected]. None of the sites at Camp Area A, Camp Area B, or the Horse Camp are specifically first-come, first-served, but whatever sites are not reserved when you arrive are open to those without reservations, and during peak season, especially on weekends, both campgrounds tend to fill up quickly. Mississippi River State Park operates differently. Primitive campsites at Lone Pine Campground are typically available on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early on weekends is important. Casino RV parks in Tunica are booked directly through each property rather than a public portal.
