Campgrounds near Wilson, Arkansas
Wilson sits in Mississippi County in northeast Arkansas, roughly 40 miles north of Memphis along Interstate 55. The town is small and agricultural, so most RV travelers use it as a quiet base and drive out to state parks and privately run resorts within an hour or so of the exit.
Across the Mississippi River in Tennessee, Fort Pillow State Park and Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park offer wooded state-park camping with river bluff terrain. Closer options on the Arkansas side include Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground and Willow RV Park, both aimed at RVers who want full hookups without a long drive off the interstate.
For travelers heading south toward Memphis attractions, Memphis KOA Journey provides a franchise-standard park with pull-through sites and standard KOA amenities. Between these options, visitors can choose between wooded state-park settings and full-service private parks depending on rig size and hookup needs.
Things to do near Wilson
The Mississippi River corridor drives most activity in the area. Fort Pillow State Park preserves a Civil War earthworks site with hiking trails, a small lake for fishing, and interpretive exhibits. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park adds bottomland hardwood trails, bike loops, and river-bluff overlooks.
In Wilson itself, the restored town square includes the Hampson Archeological Museum State Park, which displays artifacts from a Late Mississippian farming village. Delta agricultural landscapes, cotton gins, and blues heritage sites are within short drives.
For family day trips, Memphis is close enough for the zoo, the Children's Museum, and Graceland. Anglers head to oxbow lakes and the Mississippi River backwaters, and cyclists use the flat Delta roads and levee routes for easy riding.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in the Delta. March through May brings mild days and green farmland, but it is also the peak severe-weather window, with thunderstorms, hail, and tornado risk running through the Mid-South. RV travelers should monitor NOAA alerts and pick campgrounds with sturdy bathhouses that can serve as shelter.
Summer is hot and humid, with heat index values often above 100F. Sites with shade and 50-amp service book earliest. Mosquitoes and ticks are active near river bottoms and lake edges, so screens and repellent matter.
Fall cools down through October and November and is generally the driest, most stable stretch. Winter is short but wet, with cold snaps and occasional ice storms. State parks on both sides of the river typically stay open year-round for camping, but some loops, bathhouses, and interpretive centers run reduced hours from late fall through early spring.
How to book
Tennessee State Parks, including Fort Pillow and Meeman-Shelby Forest, use the official Tennessee State Parks reservation system on tnstateparks.com. Sites can generally be booked up to one year in advance, and holiday weekends fill quickly. A credit card is required at booking, and cancellation windows apply.
Arkansas State Parks book through arkansasstateparks.com. Privately operated parks near Wilson, including Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground and Willow RV Park, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Memphis KOA Journey books through koa.com or the KOA app, with loyalty discounts for KOA Rewards members.
For summer weekends and any spring festival window in Memphis, reserve at least four to eight weeks out and confirm rig-length limits before arriving.
What to expect on arrival
Roads into Wilson off I-55 are flat and straightforward for large rigs. State-park roads on the Tennessee side climb through wooded bluffs, so drivers of longer motorhomes should check site length limits and low branches before committing to a back-in loop.
Hookup availability varies. Private parks such as Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground, Willow RV Park, and Memphis KOA Journey typically offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, Wi-Fi, and laundry. State-park campgrounds usually provide water and electric, with dump stations rather than sewer at each site.
Cell coverage is reliable near the interstate and thinner inside the state forests. Expect humid nights in summer, dew-heavy mornings in fall, and mud after Delta thunderstorms.
