Wynne camping overview
Wynne sits on the western edge of Crowley's Ridge in northeast Arkansas, a distinctive band of forested hills that rises above the flat Delta farmland. The town serves as the main entry point for Village Creek State Park, which lies just east of Wynne and is Arkansas's second largest state park at nearly 7,000 acres, with forested hills, two lakes, and clear streams.
RV travelers have a range of options within a short drive. Village Creek State Park anchors the area with 96 campsites and 10 cabins, plus a dedicated equestrian camp. Lake Poinsett State Park, north of Wynne near Harrisburg, offers a quieter 29-site campground on a 640-acre reservoir known for bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. Farther east, Lone Pine at Mississippi River State Park provides primitive lakeside sites inside the St. Francis National Forest.
For travelers who want hookups closer to town or the Memphis metro, Dub'l R RV Park in Wynne and Sams Town Gambling Hall RV Park across the Mississippi River offer straightforward full-service stays.
Things to do around Wynne
Village Creek State Park is the main draw. It features 33 miles of multi-use trails, two lakes, tennis courts, a visitor center, and The Ridges at Village Creek, an Andy Dye-designed 27-hole championship golf course atop Crowley's Ridge. A segment of the historic Memphis-to-Little Rock Road and the most intact portion of the Trail of Tears crosses the park.
Water recreation is central at the surrounding parks. Lake Poinsett offers boat rentals, a launch ramp, a bait shop, and year-round interpretive programs including kayak tours. At Mississippi River State Park, Bear Creek Lake supports fishing, non-motorized boating, and swimming, with birding along the Mississippi River flyway. Memphis attractions are roughly an hour east for a day trip.

The Wynne area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping. March through May brings mild temperatures and blooming wildflowers, but it is also the wettest stretch, with May averaging the highest monthly rainfall. Severe thunderstorms are possible during spring.
Summer is long, hot, and muggy, with July highs averaging near 91 degrees Fahrenheit. Sites at Village Creek and Mississippi River State Park fill quickly on summer weekends and holidays, so early booking matters. Humidity and biting insects peak in July and August, so sites with electric hookups for air conditioning are worth prioritizing.
Fall brings cooler air, lower humidity, and strong foliage color across Crowley's Ridge, making September through early November a favored window. Winter is quieter; the Lake Poinsett visitor center operates on reduced hours from December through February, while peak-season hours run March through November.
How to book campgrounds near Wynne
Arkansas State Parks handles reservations for Village Creek, Lake Poinsett, and Mississippi River State Park through the central online system at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com, or by phone with the individual park office. Village Creek can be reached at 870-238-9406 and Lake Poinsett at 870-578-2064.
Campsites and cabins can be booked up to 12 months in advance. A non-refundable deposit is collected at the time of reservation. Check-in is 4:00 p.m. and check-out is 11:00 a.m. Weekend reservations require a two-night minimum, and three-day holiday weekends require three nights. Stays are limited to 14 nights within any 30-day period unless the park superintendent approves an extension.
Private parks such as Dub'l R RV Park and Sams Town Gambling Hall RV Park book directly with the operator. For summer weekends and fall foliage weekends, reserve state park sites several weeks ahead.
What to expect on-site
Village Creek offers class B RV sites with water and electric, plus class AAA sites with full hookups, bathhouses, and a separate equestrian camp with stable facilities. Roads inside the park are paved and manageable for larger rigs, though the equestrian trails close when wet because the Crowley's Ridge soil is fragile.
Lake Poinsett has 29 sites, made up of 12 class A, 14 class B, and 3 tent sites, along with a bathhouse, a dump station near the visitor center, and 50-amp service on class A sites. It can accommodate rigs up to about 45 feet, though the single-lane loop makes maneuvering tight. Lone Pine at Mississippi River State Park is primitive, with picnic tables and grills but no hookups, so plan to arrive with full fresh water and empty tanks.
Cell coverage varies inside the state parks, and grocery runs are easiest back in Wynne or Harrisburg.

Booking midweek or during the shoulder months of March, April, late September, and October usually unlocks the best rates, since weekend travelers heading to Village Creek State Park drive summer prices up. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Wynne%2C%20ArkansasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Wynne, AR?
Good news: for the vast majority of rentals on RVezy, a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Wynne. Arkansas only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and almost every campervan, travel trailer, Class B, and Class C motorhome on the platform falls well under that limit. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow. That's it. Most first-timers renting an RV in Wynne are surprised by how simple the paperwork really is.

If plans shift, log into your RVezy account and the cancellation steps are straightforward, with support available to help you through it. That flexibility makes it easy to start planning your Wynne RV trip today, even if a few details are still up in the air.

Filter by Delivery on the listing page and check each host's delivery radius and fee. This is a game-changer for travelers flying into Memphis International Airport, about an hour east, who'd rather skip towing entirely.

arkansasstateparks.com/parks/village-creek-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip to Wynne?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for an RV rental in Wynne, AR. From mid-March through late May, daytime highs climb from the low 60s to the upper 70s and Crowley's Ridge bursts with redbud and dogwood blooms. September through early November is another favorite: highs settle in the 70s and 80s, humidity drops, and the hardwood forest at Village Creek State Park lights up with fall color. Winters are mild, with January highs typically in the upper 40s, making shoulder-season trips genuinely comfortable.
weather.gov/lzk/I'm first time renting an RV. Will I really be okay?
You're in great hands. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, electrical, slide-outs, the awning, dump procedures, and driving tips, so you're never left guessing. Wynne is a great first-timer destination: traffic is light, US-64 and Highway 284 are flat and easy to drive, and Village Creek State Park is just a few miles down the road, making the maiden voyage short and stress-free. You can also message your host any time before or during the trip with questions. Pro tip: pick a Class C motorhome or campervan for your first rent an RV in Wynne experience; they drive much like an oversized van.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I have a breakdown or flat tire during my trip?
Take a breath, you're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, lockout, or tow is just one phone call away no matter where you are in Cross County or out on I-40. Your host is also a direct line for questions about their specific RV, like resetting the generator or finding the water pump switch. Keep both the RVezy roadside number and your host's contact saved in your phone before you leave the driveway. Most issues get sorted quickly, so you can get back to enjoying Crowley's Ridge.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Wynne RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Cross-state travel is generally welcomed, and Wynne is a fantastic launchpad: you can be in Memphis, Tennessee in about an hour, the Missouri bootheel in around two, and Mississippi in under 90 minutes. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and protection plan, so message the host directly from the listing if a cross-border trip is in your plans. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend there. For most renters, the sweet spot is a loop through Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi, with no border paperwork needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I expect?
Budgeting fuel for an RV road trip from Wynne is pretty manageable. Campervans (Class B) typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but usually pull 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches land around 7 to 10 MPG. Arkansas gas prices are consistently among the lowest in the country, often 20 to 40 cents below the national average, and you'll find affordable stations right off Exit 280 on I-40 in Forrest City and along US-64 in Wynne. Fill up before heading into Village Creek State Park, the nearest stations are back in town about six miles away.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Wynne?
Booking early is the move, especially for Village Creek State Park, which fills up fast on weekends from April through October. Arkansas State Parks accepts reservations well in advance through the official reservation portal, and full-hookup sites go first. For Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and peak fall-color weekends in October, aim to book three to six months out. Private parks in the area are usually more flexible and can sometimes be snagged a week ahead. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) almost always have openings, even in summer.
arkansasstateparks.com/reservationsWhat are local driving conditions like around Wynne?
Driving an RV around Wynne is refreshingly easy. US-64, US-70, and Arkansas Highway 284 are flat, well-paved, and rarely congested, and I-40 just south of town gives you a wide-shoulder interstate for longer hauls. The one local quirk is Crowley's Ridge: the road climbing into Village Creek State Park has gentle but real elevation changes (the park sits around 400 feet, about 200 feet above the Delta floor), so take it slow on the descent and use a lower gear if you're in a heavier rig. Watch for spring thunderstorms, summer pop-up showers, and the occasional deer at dawn or dusk along Highway 284.
ardot.gov/What hookups and amenities will I find at Wynne-area campgrounds?
You'll be well taken care of. Village Creek State Park offers a mix of full-hookup sites (50-amp electric, water, and sewer) on level pads, water-and-electric sites with a shared dump station, and an equestrian camp with water/electric sites and horse stalls. Bathhouses with hot showers, a dump station, and potable water are available near the visitor center. Heads up: cell service can be limited inside the park, so download maps and entertainment before you roll in. The town of Wynne is just a few miles away for groceries and supplies.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/village-creek-state-parkWhat's typically included inside an RV rental in Wynne?
Most rentals come trip-ready. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, cookware), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on size, roof and dash air conditioning (essential for Arkansas summers), a furnace for cool spring and fall nights, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Many campervan rental Wynne options and motorhome rental Wynne listings also include a generator, TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor shower, and an awning. Wi-Fi hotspots are sometimes included, though signal is spotty around Village Creek. Each listing spells out exactly what's onboard, and hosts often throw in extras like camp chairs, leveling blocks, and a starter propane tank.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Wynne%2C%20ArkansasWhat add-ons and pickup options can I choose for my Wynne RV?
Hosts offer a great range of add-ons to make your family RV trip Wynne smoother. Common extras include linen and kitchen kits, bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards (handy for Lake Dunn and Lake Austell at Village Creek), portable generators, outdoor grills, and pet packages. Mileage policies vary by host: some include 100 to 150 miles per day, others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for an upcharge, perfect for a longer loop through Memphis and the Ozarks. Pickup is usually at the host's location in or near Wynne, and Instant Book and Delivery filters make logistics simple. Confirm pickup time and any cleaning or dump fees right in the booking summary.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Wynne%2C%20ArkansasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled securely right through RVezy: you pay online when you book, with no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment to cover any potential damage or extra cleaning, and the amount is shown clearly on the listing before you confirm. As long as you return the RV in the same shape you got it, with tanks emptied and fuel topped off per the host's instructions, the deposit is released back to you after the trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off so any questions are easy to sort out, that's the single best way to keep your Wynne RV rental experience smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a local insider tip for an RV trip from Wynne?
Here's a move locals love: pair a visit with a stay at Village Creek State Park to catch peak spring color along the miles of multi-use trails on Crowley's Ridge, plus a walk on one of the most intact preserved segments of the historic Military Road and Trail of Tears route in the country. Round out the day on the Ridges at Village Creek, a well-regarded public golf course on the property. It's the kind of authentic Delta-meets-ridge experience you simply can't get anywhere else, and it's the perfect anchor for a relaxed Wynne RV trip.
