The San Gabriel River canyon directly north of Azusa is the main draw. Visitors wade and swim in pools along the East Fork, hike to Heaton Flat, and drive Highway 39 toward the Crystal Lake Recreation Area for cooler air and short forest trails. Connecting routes lead upward toward the high country for ambitious day hikers. In the valley, Bonelli Bluffs sits on Puddingstone Lake with swimming, fishing, mountain biking, and the Raging Waters waterpark next door. Fairplex RV Park is walking distance to events at the Pomona fairgrounds. South of the freeway, Chino Hills State Park offers extensive trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding across 14,000 acres of rolling grassland, with wildflower displays through the spring.

The Azusa area is a year-round destination, but each season trades different conditions. Spring, roughly March through May, is the sweet spot: mild temperatures, green hillsides, and peak wildflower bloom across Chino Hills State Park. Reservations at Rolling M Ranch fill quickly on spring weekends, so book early. Summer brings dry, hot valley days routinely above 90 degrees. RV travellers gravitate to lake-adjacent sites at Bonelli Bluffs or escape uphill to forest campgrounds at higher elevation, where nights stay cooler. Wildfire risk peaks from late summer into fall, and the Angeles National Forest sometimes restricts campfires or closes areas on red-flag days. Fall delivers warm days, cool nights, and clearer air once the marine layer fades. Winter is the wet season, with most rain falling between December and February. Mountain roads on Highway 39 above the canyon can close during snow events, and higher-elevation forest campgrounds typically operate only from spring into fall.

Expect a sharp contrast between valley resorts and canyon sites. Bonelli Bluffs has paved pads, 30/50-amp service, water and sewer, and large rigs are common; some loops cater to long-stay residents, so request a bluff-view site when booking. Fairplex is convenient but urban, with limited shade. Camp Williams Resort sits along the river with a small café and general store on site, and full-hookup sites shaded by oaks. Further up the canyon, sites are smaller and best suited to modest-size rigs; Highway 39 narrows and twists. Rolling M Ranch at Chino Hills is primitive: flush toilets, showers, and potable water, with no hookups, no open fires (gas stoves only), and paved parking that fits RVs up to about 30 feet. Cell service is generally good in the valley and patchy in the mountains.
