Campgrounds and RV parks near Brea, CA

Theme parks anchor most trips: Disneyland Resort, Knott's Berry Farm, and Angel Stadium are all within a short drive. For outdoor time, Chino Hills State Park offers trails across roughly 14,000 acres for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, with strong spring wildflower displays. The Santa Ana River Bikeway runs directly alongside Canyon RV Park, with miles of paved riding through the surrounding riparian wilderness. At Bonelli Bluffs, Puddingstone Lake supports fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, with Raging Waters and the Pomona Fairplex nearby. Brea itself offers the Brea Mall, downtown dining on Brea Boulevard, and Carbon Canyon Regional Park's redwood grove for an easy half-day stop.

The Brea area has a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Spring, roughly March through May, is the most pleasant window for outdoor activity. Wildflowers bloom across Chino Hills State Park, and this is the busiest time for the Rolling M Ranch Campground, with reservations opening six months in advance on a rolling basis and weekend sites filling quickly. Summer is hot inland, regularly reaching the upper 80s and into the 90s Fahrenheit, and demand for full-hookup parks near Disneyland peaks alongside school vacations. Shaded sites and pool access become priorities. Late summer and fall mark the peak of Southern California wildfire season, and red-flag warnings or temporary closures can affect open-space parks like Chino Hills, where the park closes for at least 48 hours after rain over a quarter inch and during red-flag warnings. Santa Ana wind events in fall and early winter bring hot, dry, gusty conditions that elevate fire risk further. Winter is the wettest stretch, with most annual rainfall arriving between December and February. Storms can briefly close trails and flood low-lying riverfront sites, but private RV parks stay open year-round.

Private parks near Disneyland are urban in character. Sites at Anaheim Harbor RV Park are compact and close to the freeway, but hookups are full and the Disneyland fireworks are audible at night. Orangeland offers more landscaping and citrus trees on full-hookup pull-throughs. Canyon RV Park has shaded gravel sites with 30 and 50 amp full hookups, a pool, and direct access to the Santa Ana River Bike Trail, with audible freeway noise from the 91. Bonelli Bluffs is larger and more resort-style, with paved pads and lake views, though some loops include long-term residents. Chino Hills State Park is the most rustic option: 20 primitive sites with potable water, flush toilets, and showers, no hookups, no dump station, and no open fires or charcoal allowed. Cell service is unreliable inside the state park but generally good at the other four.
