Campgrounds and RV parks near Camp Pendleton North, CA

The Pacific coastline is the main draw. Oceanside Beach and the surrounding shoreline offer swimming, longboard-friendly surf, fishing from the municipal pier, and tide pools at low tide. Oceanside Harbor has a sandy beach near the rock jetties, restaurants, and boat traffic that keeps younger kids entertained. Day trips are easy from any of the local RV parks. San Onofre State Beach to the north is known for mellow surf breaks and bluff-top trails. Carlsbad, just south, has the LEGOLAND California resort, Tamarack State Beach, and the Carlsbad Flower Fields in spring. Inland, Fallbrook offers wineries and rural drives. San Diego, including Balboa Park and the zoo, is roughly an hour south on I-5.

Coastal North County has a mild, semi-arid climate that supports year-round RV travel. Winters are cool and relatively wet by Southern California standards, with most of the annual rainfall arriving between December and March. Overnight lows rarely approach freezing on the coast, so winter camping is comfortable for properly equipped rigs. Late spring and early summer bring the marine layer, the low cloud deck locals call May Gray and June Gloom. Mornings can stay overcast at the beach well into the afternoon while inland valleys a few miles east stay sunny. Beachgoers planning sunbathing days should weight trips toward late July through October, when the marine layer thins and the Pacific reaches its warmest temperatures of the year. Late summer and early fall are the warmest stretch, with occasional Santa Ana wind events pushing hot, dry air toward the coast. This is also when wildfire risk peaks across inland San Diego and Orange counties, so check fire-agency alerts before any backcountry side trips.

Most private RV parks in the area cater to larger Class A and Class C motorhomes and travel trailers, with paved or hard-packed pads, full hookups, and tight site spacing typical of urban coastal parks. Privacy between sites is limited, particularly at the beachfront resorts. Expect some highway and rail noise near I-5 and the coastal rail line, which runs close to the shoreline through Oceanside and Camp Pendleton. The coast stays cool even in summer. Marine-layer mornings can feel damp, and evenings call for a light jacket year-round. Sites near the bluffs at San Onofre to the north sit very close to the beach but offer minimal shade. Plan for limited campfires during high fire-danger periods, and confirm hookup amperage and rig-length limits when booking.
