Campgrounds and RV parks near Green Valley, CA

Castaic Lake is the main water draw in the area, with 29 miles of shoreline split into an upper lake used for power boating, water skiing, sailing, and fishing, and a lower lagoon reserved for non-powered craft like kayaks and canoes along with a designated summer swim area. The lake is stocked with bass, trout, and catfish, and boat rentals and a tackle shop are on site. Bouquet Reservoir sits just a few miles southeast of Green Valley for quieter fishing. The surrounding Angeles National Forest offers hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding on hundreds of miles of trails. Families staying at Soledad Canyon RV and Camping Resort can use the property's pools, hot tub, game lounge, and family lodge without leaving the gate. Six Flags Magic Mountain near Castaic and Universal Studios Hollywood are both reachable as day trips.

The Green Valley area follows a high-desert Mediterranean pattern: hot, dry summers and cool, damp winters. Summer daytime highs in nearby Palmdale routinely top 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with July typically the warmest month. Fire restrictions tighten across the Angeles National Forest from late spring through fall, and campfire and stove rules can change week to week depending on conditions. Travelers should check current fire restrictions with the forest before arrival and pack a stove that complies with any open-flame ban in effect. Winter is the wet season. Most rainfall falls between December and March, and the county campground at Castaic Lake has been closed for an extended period following Hughes Fire damage, so its status should be confirmed before any visit. Spring brings wildflowers across the Antelope Valley and the Sierra Pelona, with the California Poppy Reserve north of Green Valley typically peaking from mid-March into April. Fall is the most stable shoulder season for RV travel: warm days, cool nights, lighter crowds, and lower fire risk once the first soaking rains arrive.

Roads into Green Valley itself are paved two-lane mountain routes through the Sierra Pelona, manageable for most RVs but slow. Cell service is patchy in the canyons and inside Soledad Canyon, with better reception toward the back sections of the resort. Most private parks in the area offer full hookups, dump stations, pools, and laundry. The county campground at Castaic Lake is primarily for RVs up to about 35 feet, with restrooms and a dump station but no individual site hookups. Expect dry, dusty conditions in summer and a real temperature swing between day and night year-round. Bring leveling blocks for older sites, sun shade for the hot months, and bear-aware food storage habits if venturing higher into the San Gabriels.
