Campgrounds and RV parks near Hidden Meadows, CA

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park in nearby San Pasqual Valley is the area's headline family attraction, with tram tours through open animal habitats. Daley Ranch, a 3,058-acre conservation area owned by the City of Escondido, offers more than 20 miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails on oak-studded ridges. Roads and trails from the Dixon Lake campground provide walking access to trout, catfish and bass spots along the shore, and boats are available for rent at the park's concessions. Temecula wine country and Lake Wohlford are both within easy reach. Beach days at Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Encinitas are a straightforward drive west on Highway 78, and Legoland California sits roughly 25 minutes from Hidden Meadows.

Inland North County has two practical seasons for RV travel: a warm, dry stretch from late spring through early fall, and a cool, wetter window from late fall through early spring. In winter, there is much more rainfall in Escondido than in summer, with most measurable precipitation falling between December and March. Daytime highs stay mild year-round, but overnight lows in December and January can drop into the 40s Fahrenheit, so heaters and warmer bedding are worth packing in the off-season. Late summer and fall are the most active months for wildfire. Volunteer fire lookouts in the region typically staff towers from May through November, watching for smoke that could signal the start of a wildfire, and federal officials implement seasonal fire restrictions across parts of Southern California, including San Diego County, that typically take effect in mid-April and remain in place through late October. Santa Ana wind events between September and December can spike fire danger sharply. Spring brings green hillsides, wildflowers, and the most comfortable hiking temperatures of the year.

Expect a mix of private RV resorts with full hookups, paved pads, pools, and laundry, plus a smaller selection of rustic and lake-adjacent public sites. Terrain is rolling chaparral with scattered oaks and eucalyptus, and shade varies considerably from site to site. Coyotes and rattlesnakes are present in the surrounding hills, so children and pets should be supervised. Raccoons can be pesky at lake campgrounds, so food and trash should never be left unattended and should be placed in storage lockers or vehicles. Fire rules are strict throughout the region. At Dixon Lake, wood fires and pressed logs are not allowed, with charcoal and propane fires only. Cell service is generally reliable near I-15, but can drop off in canyons further east toward Palomar Mountain.
