Camping near Lakeview, California
Lakeview is an unincorporated community in Riverside County, set in the inland valley between Moreno Valley, Perris, and Hemet. The area's RV camping centers on Lake Perris State Recreation Area, a reservoir that serves as the southern terminus of the California State Water Project. The campground sits at an elevation of about 1,650 feet, holds a total of 413 campsites, and is open all year. Equestrian sites are available at Lake Perris State Recreational Area Horse Camp. South of Lakeview in Hemet, larger RV-focused properties include Golden Village Palms RV Resort - Sunland, Camper Resorts of America, and Reflection Lake RV Park, also listed as Reflection Lake RV Park & Campground. The Lakeview area works as a practical inland base for trips through the Inland Empire and east into the desert.
Things to do near Lakeview
Most outdoor activity centers on Lake Perris. The reservoir offers swimming, fishing from shore, pier, and boat, boating, sailing, waterskiing, and a special area for scuba diving; anglers can find rainbow trout, catfish, and Alabama spotted bass; the area also offers opportunities for hikers, bikers, and equestrians; rock climbing is featured in an area south of the dam; and the Ya' Heki' Regional Indian Museum is in the area. In Hemet, the resort campgrounds add pool decks, pickleball, shuffleboard, and organized social activities. Day trips from Lakeview reach the San Jacinto Mountains, Idyllwild, the Soboba area, and the Coachella Valley to the east.

The Lakeview area follows a Mediterranean inland-valley pattern: hot, dry summers and cool, damp winters. Lake Perris sits close to major Southern California population centers and fills quickly during the summer months. During the summer heat campers are encouraged to bring shade canopies. The reservoir's busy season runs roughly June through November, when reservations for weekends and holidays should be made well ahead. Hemet resort parks see heavy snowbird occupancy from late fall through spring, then thin out for the hot summer. Spring brings wildflower color in the surrounding hills and comfortable daytime highs, while fall delivers warm, dry weather with very little rainfall. Winter is the quietest stretch at the state park, with mild days, cool nights, and a chance of passing Pacific storms; resort parks in Hemet, by contrast, are at their busiest.

My 2 kids loved the trailer, we got it delivered with all the optionals included so It was a breeze. Everything worked great - ac & heater where required a couple if times. Water tank was full but we ran out after 3 days even thou we used the camping showers, so I would plan accordingly if you are camping without hookups. I’d definitely rent from Daniel
again.
I rented Jonathan's trailer to take my family to the Lake Perris Campground. Jonathan was super helpful, walking me through the camper trailer and giving me great advice on how to set everything up. Even during our trip, he was incredibly responsive whenever I had questions. I will definitely rent from him again!

The trailer worked well for us, especially when a cold spell brought temperatures below freezing for couple of nights in the end of May. It was easy to tow up into the mountains and back. Jonathan is a great host. He is very helpful and accommodating, quick to answer questions, flexible with pick-up and drop-off times. Will rent from him again.
Sites at Lake Perris State Recreation Area, including the horse camp, are booked through ReserveCalifornia or by phone at (800) 444-7275. All sites are reservable, bookings can be made up to 6 months in advance, each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill, and 254 sites have electric and water hookups. Reservations are highly recommended for summer weekends and holidays, and bookings are site-specific, meaning a reservation locks in a specific site number. Sites can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 31 feet. Private resorts such as Golden Village Palms RV Resort - Sunland, Camper Resorts of America, and Reflection Lake RV Park book directly through their own websites or by phone, and typically accept larger rigs than the state campground.
What to expect at Lakeview-area campgrounds
Expect a developed, valley-floor camping experience rather than backcountry. Amenities at Lake Perris include shower, dump station, boat ramp, swimming, restroom, amphitheater, and flush toilets, with biking, boating, fishing, horseback riding, hiking trails, water skiing, and floating sports on offer. The tent sites are non-hookup but are some of the prettier sites in the park; they can accommodate tents and small travel trailers, the parking pad generally fits two to three mid-size vehicles per site, and every site has a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill. RV hook-up sites have water, grey water, and electrical hookups, black-water sewer hookups are not provided, and dump stations operated by Sani-Star are available for a per-use fee. Campfires are only permitted in park-provided fire rings. To slow the spread of the goldspotted oak borer, no oak firewood may be brought into the park; firewood can be purchased on site. The Hemet-area resort parks operate year-round with full hookups, pools and spas, pickleball courts, and dog parks, and accommodate larger rigs.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lakeview, CA?
RV rental in Lakeview, CA is typically more affordable than coastal hubs like Los Angeles or San Diego. On RVezy, travel trailers generally start around $100 to $150 per night, campervans run $150 to $225, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes range from $200 to $350 per night. Booking midweek (Sunday through Thursday) and traveling in the shoulder months of March, April, October, or November can reduce peak summer pricing by 15 to 25 percent. For a cheap RV rental Lakeview travelers love, filter by travel trailers with delivery included so you do not need to tow with your own vehicle.
Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Lakeview, California?
Good news: a regular California driver's license (or your home state or country equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Lakeview. California does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and trailers on RVezy, which fit within standard non-commercial license limits. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the process is once their booking is confirmed.
What protection and roadside assistance comes with my Lakeview RV rental?
Every RV rental in Lakeview booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered the moment you drive off. The protection plan helps cover damages to the vehicle during your trip, and RVezy offers multiple coverage tiers you can choose at checkout based on the peace of mind you want. If you get a flat on the 215 freeway or your battery dies at Lake Perris, one call dispatches help any time of day or night. This gives renters real financial protection so you can focus on enjoying your Inland Empire adventure.
What is the cancellation policy if my Lakeview plans change?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, not the individual host. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, with additional structured refund tiers depending on how far in advance you cancel. The full cancellation terms are shown during checkout and in your RVezy account before you confirm. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds you in full or provides travel credits. If something unexpected comes up before your Lakeview RV trip, contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options. That safety net is exactly why so many first-timers feel comfortable booking.
Absolutely, and you'll have plenty of options. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see pet-friendly RV rental Lakeview listings whose owners welcome dogs (some allow cats too). Once you're on the road, dogs are welcome on a six-foot leash at Lake Perris State Recreation Area, Rancho Jurupa Park's Lakeview and Cottonwood campgrounds, and Lake Skinner Recreation Area near Winchester. The paved bike loop circling Lake Perris is a favorite morning walk for campers with dogs. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet cleaning fee and ask about a fenced setup spot if you'd like delivery to a campsite with shade.
Can the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in Lakeview?
Yes, RV delivery Lakeview is one of the most popular options on RVezy and a game-changer for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV to your driveway, a Riverside County campground like Lake Perris or Rancho Jurupa, or a private property in nearby Nuevo, Hemet, or Moreno Valley. They will level it, hook up power and water, and provide a full walkthrough so you never have to back up a trailer yourself. Delivery fees are typically distance-based, and many hosts offer free delivery within 10 to 20 miles. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see which local rentals offer it.
How far can I drive my Lakeview RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got real range from Lakeview, which sits right at the crossroads of the 215 and Ramona Expressway in Riverside County. Joshua Tree National Park is about 75 miles east, San Diego is 90 miles south, Los Angeles is 75 miles northwest, Big Bear Lake is 65 miles north, and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is about 90 miles southeast. Each host sets their own mileage policy: many include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for an extra flat fee, which is the sweet spot if you're planning a longer loop. Always check the listing's mileage details and message the host if you want to negotiate a package for your route.
You're spoiled for choice. Lake Perris State Recreation Area is just minutes away with 431 sites, 254 with water and electric hookups, sites for rigs up to 31 feet, hot showers, a dump station, and a boat ramp. Rancho Jurupa Park in Riverside has 131 sites split between the full-hookup Cottonwood loop and the more relaxed Lakeview loop. Lake Skinner Recreation Area near Winchester offers 257 sites including 199 full hookups, plus a marina and splash pad. For mountain air, Hurkey Creek Park sits at 4,432 feet near Idyllwild. For a quieter pick, Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in Menifee is a Thousand Trails favorite. Book Lake Perris through ReserveCalifornia up to six months in advance.
When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Lakeview?
Lakeview sits in the warm, sunny Inland Empire, so the season is essentially year-round. The sweet spot is March through May and September through November, when daytime highs hover between 70 and 85°F, evenings are cool and comfortable, and campgrounds are easier to book. Summer (June through September) is hot and dry with highs of 87 to 95°F, perfect for swimming and boating at Lake Perris if your RV has a strong air conditioner. Winter (December through February) is mild with highs of 65 to 68°F and the occasional rainy stretch, making it a beautifully uncrowded time for RV camping Lakeview locals quietly love. Aim for shoulder season for the best balance.
I've never rented an RV before. Will I know how to use it?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), covering driving basics, propane, slide-outs, the water system, the toilet, awnings, and how to dump your tanks. Most walkthroughs run 30 to 60 minutes and you can take notes or video on your phone. Hosts genuinely want you to have a great trip, and you can message them throughout your rental if a question pops up. For your first Lakeview RV trip, pick something smaller like a Class C motorhome or a 20 to 24 foot travel trailer. Lake Perris is only minutes away, making it a stress-free first night.
What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You will not be stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If your slide-out gets stuck at Lake Skinner or the fridge stops cooling on a hot afternoon, call your host directly first (most respond within minutes since they know their RV best). RVezy support is also available before, during, and after every trip. Lakeview is conveniently close to Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Hemet, so service shops and parts are usually a short drive away. Most issues are resolved the same day so you barely miss a beat.
Can I take my RV rental on a road trip from Lakeview to other states or into Mexico?
Yes to multi-state road trips, no to Mexico. Most Lakeview hosts allow travel throughout California and into neighboring states like Nevada (Las Vegas is about 240 miles away), Arizona (Lake Havasu sits at around 220 miles), and Utah (Zion National Park is roughly 400 miles). Cross-border travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because the protection coverage does not extend there. For trips into Canada, you'd need explicit host approval, but it's rarely practical given the distance. A favorite RV road trip from Lakeview is the desert loop: Joshua Tree to Salton Sea to Anza-Borrego, all reachable within a half-day's drive. Confirm out-of-state plans with your host before booking.
What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how should I budget for gas?
Plan ahead and you'll be fine. Class B campervans typically get 16 to 20 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, Class A motorhomes around 7 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). California gas prices tend to run higher than the national average, and as of 2026 regular unleaded in the Riverside/Lakeview area generally sits between $4.50 and $5.25 per gallon, with diesel slightly higher. For a 3-night trip to Joshua Tree and back (about 200 miles round trip) in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Top up at Costco in Moreno Valley before you hit the road.
How far in advance should I book a campground near Lakeview?
The earlier the better, especially for summer and holiday weekends. Lake Perris State Recreation Area accepts reservations through ReserveCalifornia up to six months in advance, and prime lakeside sites for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day typically book the day the window opens. Riverside County parks like Rancho Jurupa and Lake Skinner also fill fast through their RivCoParks reservation system. For shoulder season trips (March, April, October, November), 4 to 6 weeks out is usually plenty. Pro tip: if your preferred site is full, set up cancellation alerts and check ReserveCalifornia midweek, when last-minute openings frequently appear. Booking your RVezy rental and your campground on the same day keeps the trip momentum going.
What are driving conditions like around Lakeview, CA?
Driving in and out of Lakeview is refreshingly easy compared to the rest of Southern California. You're connected by the Ramona Expressway and just a few miles from the 215 freeway, both of which are wide, straight, and RV-friendly. Traffic gets heavier on weekday afternoons heading toward Riverside or Moreno Valley, so plan departures before 3 p.m. on weekdays. Watch for strong Santa Ana winds in fall (a real factor for tall Class A motorhomes) and afternoon heat in summer that can stress tires; check pressure before each leg. Mountain routes like Highway 74 toward Idyllwild include grades and switchbacks best driven slowly. Overall, Lakeview is a friendlier launch point than starting in downtown LA.
What amenities do campgrounds near Lakeview offer, and where can I dump tanks or fill water?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped. Lake Perris State Recreation Area has 254 sites with water and electric hookups, free hot showers, flush toilets, and a dedicated RV dump station near the main entrance (no sewer at individual sites, but the dump is complimentary for registered campers). Rancho Jurupa Park's Cottonwood loop offers 60 full-hookup sites with 30/50 amp service, laundry, and a camp store called The Gopher Hole, while the Lakeview loop has water and electric only with a central dump station. Lake Skinner offers 199 full-hookup sites. Need a dump or fresh water mid-trip? Pilot and Flying J stations along the I-215 corridor in Beaumont and Murrieta also have public dump stations.
What features and amenities are typically inside a Lakeview RV rental?
You'll find more comfort than you'd expect. Most motorhome rental Lakeview options on RVezy include a queen or king bed, convertible dinette beds, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Air conditioning is essential in summer and standard in nearly every local listing. Many rigs also offer a roof-mounted solar panel, a generator for boondocking, a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor awnings. Campervan rental Lakeview options like Class B vans are great for couples and often include pop-tops or solar setups. Seatbelts are provided for every seated passenger; just confirm the sleeps count and seatbelt count on the listing match your group.
What add-ons are available, and how does pickup and drop-off work?
Hosts on RVezy offer thoughtful add-ons that make your Lakeview RV rental even easier. Common options include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, generators, propane fill, BBQ grills, and Starlink Wi-Fi for remote work. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Lakeview, Nuevo, or nearby Hemet and Perris, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Drop-off times are typically late morning, and many hosts are flexible if you message them in advance. Want zero hassle? Filter by Delivery and have the RV brought right to your campsite at Lake Perris. Mileage details are shown on every listing so you can pick one that matches your route.
How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled entirely through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to a host. You pay your trip total (rental, protection, fees, and any add-ons) by credit or debit card when you book. A separate refundable security deposit is held on your card before the trip; the amount is shown on each listing and varies by RV type and value, typically $500 to $2,000 for Lakeview rentals. As long as the RV is returned in the same condition with tanks emptied and within the agreed mileage, your deposit is released back to your card after the trip. Take photos at pickup and drop-off to avoid any surprises.
What are the best road trip destinations within a day's drive of Lakeview, CA?
Lakeview is one of the best-kept launch points in Southern California. Joshua Tree National Park is about 75 miles east (roughly 90 minutes), perfect for desert hiking and stargazing. Big Bear Lake is 65 miles north for cooler mountain air and forest camping. San Diego beaches are 90 miles south, an easy 2-hour run down the 15. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park sits about 90 miles southeast and is spectacular for spring wildflowers. Palm Springs is just 60 miles east for pool-side glamping vibes. For a family RV trip Lakeview families love, do a 4-night loop: Lake Perris to Joshua Tree to Palm Springs and back. Each stop is reachable in under two hours of driving.
