Campgrounds and RV parks near Maywood, CA

The LA basin is the draw. From a base at Anaheim Harbor RV Park, the location is close enough that you can view the Disneyland fireworks from the campground in the evenings, and the park is a short walk from Disneyland Resort and minutes from the Anaheim Convention Center, Angel Stadium, and the Honda Center. From Golden Shore RV Resort in Long Beach, the Queen Mary, Aquarium of the Pacific, Shoreline Village, and Pine Avenue dining are short rides away. Bolsa Chica State Beach extends three miles from Warner Avenue to Seapoint Avenue along Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, with surfing, surf fishing, and biking, plus the adjacent Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve for birdwatching across the wetlands. Day trips from Maywood reach Griffith Observatory, the Hollywood sign, Universal Studios, the Getty, and Santa Monica Pier, all within roughly 30 to 60 minutes depending on traffic.

The LA basin is a year-round destination, but trip quality shifts with the season. The dry summer season normally runs from May through October, with average high temperatures in the lower 80s F (26-28 C) and overnight lows in the lower 60s F (15-17 C). Coastal mornings often start under a marine layer known as June Gloom that burns off by midday. Inland sites in Anaheim and Maywood run noticeably warmer than the shoreline. Fall (September through November) is one of the best windows for RV travelers. Crowds thin after Labor Day and temperatures stay mild into November. July, August and September are the hottest months, and September can bring sharp heat spikes and elevated wildfire risk in the surrounding hills; check Cal Fire and air-quality advisories before traveling. Winter (December through February) is the rainy season. Of the total annual precipitation recorded in Los Angeles, 92 percent falls between November 1 and April 30. Sites are easier to book, daytime highs stay mild, and Disneyland's holiday season runs through early January. Spring (March through May) is generally dry, cool, and uncrowded, with wildflowers in the surrounding hills.

These are urban and suburban RV parks, not wilderness campgrounds. Sites at Anaheim Harbor RV Park and the Long Beach properties are compact, paved, and close together, with freeway noise audible from many locations. Campsites at Bolsa Chica can accommodate RVs or trailers up to 40 feet, and the spots are narrow, equivalent to a parking space, with no pop-outs or awnings allowed. Expect full or partial hookups, paved pads, on-site laundry, and pool access at the private resorts. Dogs are allowed at Bolsa Chica but cannot go on the sand; they are allowed on the multi-use bike trail. Cell coverage is strong throughout the area. Traffic is the main variable: plan arrivals and departures outside LA rush hours, and budget extra time when heading to Disneyland or the beaches on summer weekends.
