Campgrounds and RV parks near North El Monte, CA

The area pairs theme-park day trips with mountain and lake recreation. Bonelli Bluffs guests have direct beachfront access to Puddingstone Lake with panoramic mountain views, plus 9 miles of lakeside walking trails, fishing, and hiking. Puddingstone Reservoir, a 250-acre lake within the park, supports fishing, swimming, sailing, wind surfing, boating, and jet skiing. From Fairplex RV Park, families can reach Disneyland Resort, Knott's Berry Farm, Raging Waters, Universal Studios, and Mt. Baldy within about 30 minutes. Up the canyon, visitors at Camp Williams Resort enjoy hiking, swimming outdoors, wildlife viewing, fishing, and gold panning nearby. Closer attractions include the Los Angeles County Arboretum in Arcadia, Santa Anita Park, and the Huntington Library in San Marino.

The San Gabriel Valley camps year-round, but the experience changes sharply by season. Summers are hot, arid, and clear, while winters are long, cool, wet, and partly cloudy. Spring brings comfortable temperatures and wildflowers along foothill trails, with showers tapering through May. Summer is hot and dry in the valley, often topping 32°C in the afternoon, and weekends at lake-adjacent parks like Bonelli Bluffs fill quickly with families using the pools, beach, and the adjacent Raging Waters water park. Fire restrictions are common in the surrounding national forest from late spring through fall, and travelers should check current orders before heading up the canyons. Fall offers the best balance of warm days, cool nights, and lighter crowds after Labor Day. Winter is the wettest stretch, with most rain falling December through February. Annual rainfall averages about 305 mm, with December the wettest month near 81 mm and August nearly dry at 0.3 mm. Higher-elevation Angeles National Forest sites along Angeles Crest Highway close seasonally as snow arrives.

Expect a clear split between manicured commercial resorts and rustic canyon sites. Bonelli Bluffs features 504 large paved full hookup sites, including 15 pull-through spaces, with amenities geared to RV travelers. Sites at urban-edge parks tend to be paved and close together. At Fairplex RV Park, spots are very narrow and right next to each other, and the fairgrounds across the street can make it a louder location. Canyon camps trade polish for setting. Camp Williams Resort features shaded, full-hookup campsites that are big-rig friendly and overlook the San Gabriel River, with pets allowed and free WiFi and cable TV. Access roads into the mountains are narrow and winding, so plan extra drive time with a larger rig. Wildlife is part of the package: coyotes, deer, and the occasional bear move through foothill parks, so secure food and watch small pets at dawn and dusk.
