Campgrounds and RV parks near Palos Verdes Estates, CA

The main draw is the coast. The Palos Verdes Estates Shoreline Preserve runs along bluffs above the Pacific with paved and dirt paths suitable for families, and lookouts over Bluff Cove and Lunada Bay. At low tide, the rocky shoreline below Flat Rock Point opens up tidepools worth a careful scramble. Surfers head to Bluff Cove on west swells. The broader Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, just east in Rancho Palos Verdes, spans some 1,400 acres with over 30 miles of trails through rolling hills, steep canyons and rock outcrops, with coastal sage habitat and ocean-view ridgelines. Cyclists ride the Palos Verdes Drive loop around the peninsula. Off-peninsula, families can pair a day here with the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach or the beach path connecting Torrance and Redondo.

The peninsula is a year-round destination with a Mediterranean climate, so trip timing depends more on crowds and marine layer than on extreme weather. Late spring and early summer often bring "May Gray" and "June Gloom," with overcast mornings that burn off by afternoon. July through September is the warmest and driest stretch, with the clearest ocean views and the heaviest demand at nearby RV parks: oceanfront state-beach sites often book months ahead. Fall, roughly mid-September through early November, is one of the best windows for RV travel here. Crowds thin, water stays warm, and skies are typically clear, though Santa Ana wind events can elevate regional fire risk and lead to brief park or trail closures. Winter is mild but the wettest season, with most rainfall falling December through February. After heavy rain, certain coastal trails on the peninsula can close temporarily because of land movement; check current trail notices before setting out. Whale-watching from the bluffs is best from late December into April as gray whales migrate offshore.

Plan around traffic. Pacific Coast Highway, the 405, and the 110 corridor into the South Bay all back up at commute hours and on summer weekends, so build buffer time when moving an RV. Streets within Palos Verdes Estates itself are narrow, winding, and posted with parking restrictions; leave the rig at the campground and use a tow vehicle or rideshare for day trips. Coastal state-beach RV camping in this region is geared to self-contained RVs, which must include running water, internal flushable toilet with holding tank, shower and cooking facilities; tent camping and cassette toilets are not allowed. Cell coverage along the peninsula is generally good. Bring sun protection and water for bluff trails as shade is limited, and check tide charts before heading down to tidepools or beach-access trails, which can become impassable at high tide.
