Campgrounds near Perris, California
Perris sits in Riverside County's Inland Empire, along Interstate 215 between Riverside and the Temecula valley. The area's anchor for RV travelers is Lake Perris State Recreation Area, a reservoir-based park located eleven miles south of Riverside, which includes the Lake Perris State Recreational Area Horse Camp for travelers bringing stock. The main campground has 413 total sites, accommodates RVs and trailers up to 31 feet, and includes 254 sites with electric and water hookups.
Beyond the state park, private RV resorts handle most full-hookup demand. Camper Resorts of America and Meadowbrook RV Park serve travelers who want longer-stay amenities close to town, while Elsinore Hills RV Park sits closer to Lake Elsinore to the south. Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, near Menifee, rounds out the options with resort-style features. The location works as a base for Joshua Tree, the San Jacinto Mountains, and the Orange County coast, all reachable within a couple of hours.
Things to do near Perris
Lake Perris itself drives most outdoor activity. The reservoir, formed by Perris Dam, offers swimming, fishing from shore, pier and boat, boating, sailing, waterskiing, and a special area for scuba diving. The lake is well known for Alabama spotted bass, along with rainbow trout and catfish. Rock climbing is available south of the dam, and a trail system circles the lake for hikers, cyclists, and equestrians using the horse camp. The Ya'i Heki' Regional Indian Museum, which offers educational programs about local tribal culture, sits inside the park. Off the water, Perris is known for skydiving and ballooning operations, and the Orange Empire Railway Museum runs vintage trolley and train rides on weekends. Day trips reach Temecula wine country to the south and the San Bernardino National Forest to the north.

Perris has a Mediterranean climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Summer brings consistent heat: July high temperatures average around 97 degrees, and the lake area can feel exposed despite shade trees, so canopies and extra water are standard gear. Lake Perris is very crowded during summer because of its proximity to major Southern California population centers, and weekend arrivals should plan for an early entry to beat parking and boat-capacity limits.
Late fall and winter are the quietest window. The campground is open all year, and daytime highs in December and January typically run in the low 60s Fahrenheit. Spring is comfortable and dry once the brief rainy period tapers in March and April. On average, Perris gets only 10 inches of rain per year, with most falling between November and March.

My 2 kids loved the trailer, we got it delivered with all the optionals included so It was a breeze. Everything worked great - ac & heater where required a couple if times. Water tank was full but we ran out after 3 days even thou we used the camping showers, so I would plan accordingly if you are camping without hookups. I’d definitely rent from Daniel again.

I rented Jonathan's trailer to take my family to the Lake Perris Campground. Jonathan was super helpful, walking me through the camper trailer and giving me great advice on how to set everything up. Even during our trip, he was incredibly responsive whenever I had questions. I will definitely rent from him again!

The trailer worked well for us, especially when a cold spell brought temperatures below freezing for couple of nights in the end of May. It was easy to tow up into the mountains and back. Jonathan is a great host. He is very helpful and accommodating, quick to answer questions, flexible with pick-up and drop-off times. Will rent from him again.

How to book
Reservations for Lake Perris State Recreation Area go through ReserveCalifornia at reservecalifornia.com or by phone at (800) 444-7275, and this covers both the main campground and the horse camp. Reservations can be booked up to six months in advance on a rolling daily window, and the campsites at Lake Perris are site specific, meaning a reservation locks in a specific site number, so picking the loop and pad matters. Summer weekends and holidays sell out early and should be booked as soon as the window opens. During peak season, June 1 through November 30, stays are capped at 15 consecutive nights. Private resorts including Camper Resorts of America, Meadowbrook RV Park, Elsinore Hills RV Park, and Wilderness Lakes RV Resort take reservations directly through their own booking channels.
What to expect
The Lake Perris campground sits at an elevation of 1,650 feet on the south side of the reservoir. Most areas have shade trees, but summer heat is intense and afternoon shade is limited on some loops, so bringing a canopy is recommended. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill, 254 sites have electric and water hookups, and amenities include showers, a dump station, boat ramp, swimming, restrooms, an amphitheater, and flush toilets. Boat launch fees are not included in the camping reservation; expect daily launching fees on arrival, including exit day. Campfires are only permitted in park-provided fire rings, and open ground fires are not allowed. Due to the goldspotted oak borer, no oak firewood may be brought into the park; pine and eucalyptus are still allowed, and wood can be purchased inside the park.
