Campgrounds and RV parks near Pomona, CA

Pomona puts the major Southern California attractions within easy reach. The Fairplex hosts the LA County Fair, NHRA drag races, and year-round trade shows. Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park offers a variety of recreational activities including fishing, mountain biking, multiple playgrounds, picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, nature walks, Raging Waters theme park, bird watching, golfing and bicycling. The park is the future home of 2028 Olympics mountain biking events. Chino Hills State Park offers extensive hiking trails across its 14,000 acres, and the park is especially beautiful in spring when wildflowers bloom and the hills turn a vibrant green, with mountain biking and equestrian trails as well. Up the canyon, the East Fork of the San Gabriel River draws families for swimming holes and fishing. Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and the Claremont Colleges are all a short drive away.

Pomona has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Summer brings the largest crowds and the highest demand: weekends at lake-adjacent parks fill weeks ahead, and inland temperatures regularly climb into the 90s F. Shaded sites and full hookups for air conditioning matter most in July and August. Spring is the strongest window for the region's natural scenery, with green hills and wildflowers across Chino Hills. Fall stays warm and dry through October, with cooler nights by November and far smaller crowds outside event weekends at the Fairplex. Winter is the wettest season, with rainfall almost non-existent from June to September and the wet season commencing in October, peaking in December, and atmospheric river storms can swell the San Gabriel River and temporarily close canyon roads. Fire restrictions are common in late summer and fall. Open fires are not allowed at Chino Hills State Park, though gas stoves may be used. The park also closes for at least 48 hours following rain exceeding one quarter inch and during Red Flag fire warnings. Check current fire and road status with the park or Angeles National Forest before mountain trips.

Expect urban-edge camping, not backcountry. Most parks near Pomona have paved pads, full hookups, laundry, and pools, and most sites accommodate large rigs. Fairplex RV Park has 185 sites with a maximum RV length of 65 feet, though sites run tight and freeway and event noise carries. Bonelli Bluffs sits on the bluffs overlooking Puddingstone Lake on one side and a regional airport on the other, adjacent to the Pomona Fairplex and raceway. At Chino Hills, each site has paved parking that can accommodate two cars or recreational vehicles up to 30 feet in length, with no hookup or dump station facilities. Cell phone service is unreliable throughout Chino Hills State Park, and reception can be weak up the canyon at Camp Williams. Pets are welcome at most parks on leash.
