Camping near Quincy, California
Quincy sits in the American Valley in Plumas County, surrounded by the Plumas National Forest at roughly 3,400 feet elevation. The town serves as a practical base for RV trips into the northern Sierra Nevada, with Bucks Lake about 17 miles southwest on Bucks Lake Road and the Feather River canyon running east and west along Highway 70.
Campground options range from in-town RV parks with hookups to forest service and PG&E sites on the lake. Pioneer RV Park and Neighbors RV Village offer full-service spots close to groceries, fuel, and the Plumas County Fairgrounds. Lakeshore Resort at Bucks Lake and Bucks Lake Camp provide private lakeside sites with cabins and marina access, while Haskins Valley - PGE anchors the south cove of Bucks Lake with 65 campsites for tents, trailers, and RVs.
Most lake-area campgrounds sit around 5,200 feet, so expect cool nights even in midsummer and limited cell service away from town.
Things to do around Quincy
Bucks Lake is the main draw: fishing for rainbow trout and mackinaw, boating, kayaking, swimming, and waterskiing from the Bucks Lake Marina and the boat ramp at Haskins Valley. The surrounding Bucks Lake Wilderness covers a large section of Plumas National Forest, with trail access to the Pacific Crest Trail and routes like the Three Lakes Trail and Grizzly Forebay Trail.
The Feather River corridor along Highway 70 offers swimming holes, trout fishing, and scenic driving through the canyon. OHV riders use designated routes in the Mt. Hough Ranger District. In town, Quincy has a small historic downtown, the Plumas County Museum, summer farmers markets, and the Plumas-Sierra County Fair in August.

December - February

The camping season around Quincy is short and tied to snowmelt. Forest service campgrounds at Bucks Lake typically operate from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day or into late September, conditions permitting. PG&E sites at Haskins Valley generally accept reservations from early June through early October. Lower-elevation in-town RV parks such as Pioneer RV Park and Neighbors RV Village stay open later into the shoulder season.
Winter brings heavy snow at elevation. The Oroville-Quincy Highway closes seasonally at the Bucks Summit area once snow blocks the road, eliminating the western approach until plows reopen the route in late spring. Summer is warm and dry with afternoon thunderstorm risk in the high country and elevated wildfire danger from July into October. Fall offers cool nights, fewer crowds, and good fishing before campgrounds close. Spring access can be muddy and some forest roads remain gated until snow clears.
How to book campgrounds near Quincy
Reservations split across several systems. Forest service campgrounds in the Plumas National Forest are booked through Recreation.gov on a six-month rolling window. Haskins Valley - PGE and other PG&E-managed campgrounds at Bucks Lake are reserved through PG&E's recreation portal at recreation.pge.com, with a two-night minimum on reserved sites and a reservation window that generally runs from early June through early October. Private campgrounds such as Pioneer RV Park, Lakeshore Resort at Bucks Lake, Bucks Lake Camp, and Neighbors RV Village take bookings directly by phone or through their own websites.
A portion of Haskins Valley sites, including site 10 and sites 14 through 29, are first-come, first-served. Holiday weekends fill weeks in advance, so book Bucks Lake sites early for July and August.
What RV renters should expect
Roads to Bucks Lake climb steeply from the valley floor. From Quincy, Bucks Lake Road is the recommended RV route; the southern approach from Oroville is tighter and only fully open in summer after plowing. Haskins Valley accommodates RVs up to roughly 30 to 40 feet depending on the site, but the lake-area forest sites have no hookups, so plan for dry camping. A dump station and potable water fill are available at Haskins Valley.
Cell service is unreliable to nonexistent at lake campgrounds. Bears are active, so use the provided food lockers and bear-proof dumpsters. Nights are cold at elevation even in July, mosquitoes peak just after snowmelt, and afternoon winds on the lake can pick up quickly. Fuel, groceries, propane, and supplies are easiest to handle in Quincy before heading up to the lake.

Pro tip: filter by Instant Book to find hosts offering quicker confirmations, often with competitive nightly rates for Plumas County trips.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Quincy%2C%20CaliforniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Quincy?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Quincy, California. No special endorsements, no commercial driver's license (CDL), and no RV-specific permit are required by the State of California for the motorhomes and trailers listed on RVezy. You'll generally need to be 25 or older as an approved driver and upload a clear photo of your license during booking so RVezy can verify your identity through the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised by how simple the paperwork is, leaving more headspace for planning your Sierra Nevada adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs the RV protected if something goes wrong on my trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Quincy booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered the moment you drive off. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle within plan limits, giving you peace of mind whether you're winding through the Feather River Canyon or parked at Bucks Lake. During checkout, you'll choose between different coverage levels, so you can pick the protection that fits your trip and your comfort level. Hosts don't set this, RVezy does. That means fewer surprises and more time enjoying the pines, lakes, and granite peaks of the Plumas National Forest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Quincy RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy for every rental in Quincy, and it includes a money-back grace period after you book so you have time to adjust plans. The exact refund window depends on factors like how far out your trip is and the timing of your cancellation. Because Plumas County weather can shift quickly with summer wildfires or winter storms affecting Sierra travel, this flexibility is a real plus. You can review the full cancellation details on RVezy's Help Center during checkout, and customer support is available before, during, and after your trip to help if anything changes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Quincy RV trip?
Absolutely, dogs are welcome on plenty of trips. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Quincy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who happily accept four-legged co-pilots. Plumas County is a dream for dog owners: the Plumas National Forest allows leashed pets on most trails, Bucks Lake has dog-friendly shoreline areas, and Pioneer RV Park in East Quincy welcomes pets at their full-hookup sites. Pro tip: pack a tie-out, a collapsible water bowl, and tick prevention because the forested sites around Spanish Creek and Snake Lake are prime tick territory in spring and early summer. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/plumas/recreation/camping-cabinsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Quincy?
Yes, RV delivery in Quincy is a popular option, especially for first-timers who don't want to drive a big rig on Highway 70's twists through the Feather River Canyon. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up the motorhome or trailer at your destination, whether that's Pioneer RV Park in East Quincy, a Forest Service site at Bucks Lake, or a private spot in American Valley. You arrive, the RV is leveled with the awning out and the fridge cold, and the host walks you through everything. To find delivery options, simply use the Delivery filter on RVezy and check each host's delivery radius and per-mile fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Quincy%2C%20CaliforniaHow does the mileage policy work, and how far can I drive?
Mileage is flexible and easy to plan around. Each Quincy RV listing on RVezy clearly displays the daily mileage allowance, often 100 to 150 free miles per day, with a per-mile charge beyond that. Some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer Plumas County loop. To put it in perspective: Lake Almanor is about 30 miles north, Lassen Volcanic National Park's southwest entrance is roughly 70 miles, Lake Tahoe is around 95 miles, and Reno is about 100 miles east. A weekend exploring Bucks Lake and Taylorsville fits easily within most standard mileage packages. Pro tip: estimate your route before booking and message the host if you'd like a custom mileage add-on.
nps.gov/lavo/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Quincy for an RV?
You have wonderful options right in your backyard. Top picks for RV camping in Quincy include Pioneer RV Park in East Quincy (full hookups, 30/50-amp service, open year-round, walking distance to the Plumas County Fairgrounds), Spanish Creek Campground in the Plumas National Forest (creekside sites about 6 miles northwest of town), Snake Lake Campground (quiet, forested, roughly 9 miles out), and Sundew or Lower Bucks Campground at Bucks Lake (17 miles southwest, alpine lake views). For a state park feel, Plumas-Eureka State Park near Johnsville offers flush toilets and showers. Pro tip: forest service campgrounds rarely have hookups, so choose an RV with a generator or solar if you're heading deep into Plumas National Forest.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/plumas/recreation/camping-cabinsWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Quincy?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for a Quincy RV trip. Summer days are warm and arid, with July highs averaging around 85°F and cool mountain nights dipping into the 50s, ideal for campfires. June and September are the locals' favorites: wildflowers and snowmelt waterfalls in early summer, golden aspens and quiet trails in fall. Winters here are genuinely snowy (Quincy sits at 3,400 feet and averages well over 30 inches of snow), so November through April trips need a four-season-ready rig. Pro tip: time your visit for the High Sierra Music Festival in early July or the Plumas-Sierra County Fair in August for the full local flavor.
weather.gov/rev/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Quincy?
You're going to do great. First time renting an RV? Your RVezy host will give you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering everything from leveling and slide-outs to the propane system and dump valves, so you won't leave until you feel ready. Quincy itself is small and easy to navigate, with wide streets and minimal traffic. The trickiest local stretch is Highway 70 through the Feather River Canyon (narrow shoulders, occasional rockfall warnings), but Highway 89 north toward Lake Almanor is smooth and scenic. Pro tip: if any nerves remain, book a host who offers delivery and setup, and start your trip relaxing at Pioneer RV Park before venturing out.
dot.ca.gov/programs/traffic-operations/road-informationWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every Quincy RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on Bucks Lake Road or the generator acts up at Antelope Lake, help is one phone call away. RVezy's customer support team is also available around the clock to help coordinate repairs, towing, or a swap if needed. Your host is usually quick to respond too, since they know their rig best. Pro tip: cell coverage drops fast once you leave town and head into the Plumas National Forest, so download offline maps and save the RVezy support number before you lose signal past Meadow Valley.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, multi-state travel is allowed and popular. From Quincy, an RV road trip can easily roll into Nevada (Reno is about 100 miles east), Oregon, or further into California's national parks. Cross-border travel into Canada is generally permitted on RVezy bookings, but you must message your host and confirm in writing before crossing, since insurance documentation and the host's permission are required. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because the protection coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a classic loop from Quincy is Highway 70 east to Reno, north on US-395 to Susanville and Lassen, then back through Lake Almanor, a stunning 250-mile circuit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow should I budget for fuel on a Quincy RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your trip budget, but it's predictable once you plan. Expect roughly 8 to 12 mpg for a Class C motorhome, 6 to 10 mpg for a Class A, and 12 to 18 mpg for a truck pulling a travel trailer. California gas prices in Plumas County typically run a bit higher than the national average, so fill up in Quincy at the stations along Highway 70 before heading toward Bucks Lake or Lake Almanor (services thin out fast). Pro tip: drive 55 to 60 mph on the highway, avoid idling the generator unnecessarily, and you can shave 10 to 15 percent off your fuel bill on a long weekend.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book campgrounds near Quincy?
Booking early pays off big, especially for summer. National Forest campgrounds around Quincy (Bucks Lake, Lake Davis, Antelope Lake, and Lakes Basin) are reserved through Recreation.gov, and prime weekend sites between Memorial Day and Labor Day often fill 3 to 6 months out. Plumas-Eureka State Park is booked through ReserveCalifornia and follows the same pattern. Pioneer RV Park in East Quincy and Movin' West RV Park in Graeagle take direct reservations and tend to have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: midweek nights in June or September are far easier to snag, and many Forest Service campgrounds keep a few first-come, first-served sites, so arrive Thursday morning for the best shot at a walk-up spot.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725What are driving conditions like in and around Quincy?
Driving in Quincy itself is easy, friendly small-town streets with little traffic. The scenic routes that bring you here, though, deserve respect. Highway 70 through the Feather River Canyon is gorgeous but winding, with tunnels, occasional one-lane construction zones, and the chance of rockfall after storms. Highway 89 to Lake Almanor and Graeagle is smoother and a favorite for first-time RV drivers. In winter, chains are often required on Highway 70 and over Beckwourth Pass, and snowfall regularly closes higher Forest Service roads from November through April. Pro tip: check Caltrans QuickMap before you leave Quincy each morning to stay ahead of closures, fires, or chain controls.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities do campgrounds near Quincy offer, and where can I dump or fill water?
You'll find a great mix of comfort and rustic charm. Pioneer RV Park in East Quincy offers full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), free Wi-Fi, showers, and laundry, perfect for a relaxed base. Taylorsville Campground has modern restrooms, showers, and an RV sewer dump station (but no hookups). Most Plumas National Forest campgrounds, like Spanish Creek and Snake Lake, provide vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and bear boxes but no piped water, so fill your fresh tank in Quincy first. Pro tip: Pioneer RV Park and Taylorsville Campground both offer dump stations even for non-guests for a small fee, handy on your way back to town.
plumascounty.us/3078/Taylorsville-CampgroundWhat's typically included inside an RV rental in Quincy?
You'll feel right at home from the minute you step in. Most motorhome rental Quincy listings on RVezy come fully equipped: queen or king beds, convertible dinettes, a kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, awning, outdoor chairs, and a generator for boondocking at places like Snake Lake. Campervan rental Quincy options (Class B) are more compact but still include sleeping, cooking, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: kitchen kits, linens, and bedding are sometimes included and sometimes an add-on, so check the listing's amenities list and message the host if anything's unclear before booking.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/plumas/recreation/camping-cabinsWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Quincy RV rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons for RV rental in California's Plumas region include generator hours, propane refills, kitchen and linen kits, camping chairs, fire pits, bike racks, e-bikes, kayaks or SUPs (huge at Bucks Lake), Starlink Wi-Fi, and pet packages. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup to specific campgrounds, often with a flat fee for popular spots like Pioneer RV Park or Plumas-Eureka State Park. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Quincy or East Quincy, with a thorough walkthrough included. Pro tip: book add-ons during checkout rather than at pickup, since hosts often stock generator-friendly extras and water toys in limited quantities during festival weekends.
plumascounty.org/How do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is smooth and secure, handled entirely through RVezy, never directly with the host. You'll pay with a credit card during booking, and a refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before the trip starts (the exact amount is shown on each listing). After return, the host has a short window to confirm the RV came back in good shape, then the hold is released and you'll see the funds back on your card. To avoid any deposit hiccups, take date-stamped photos of the RV at pickup and dropoff, return it with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if required. Pro tip: a thorough walkthrough at pickup is your best protection against any surprises later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Quincy during winter, and is it worth it?
Yes, and a winter Quincy RV trip is a real hidden gem. Pioneer RV Park stays open year-round with full hookups and shore power, so you can plug in, run the furnace, and stay toasty even when overnight lows drop into the 20s. Look for RVs listed as four-season with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and skirting-ready setups, then filter by hosts who allow winter use. You'll be 90 minutes from snowshoeing at Lassen, an hour from cross-country skiing at Bucks Lake, and a short drive from Johnsville's historic ski hill at Plumas-Eureka State Park. Pro tip: carry tire chains (legally required at times on Highway 70) and ask your host for cold-weather tips during the walkthrough.
