Campgrounds and RV parks near San Jacinto, CA

Diamond Valley Lake, just south of town, is the main local outdoor draw. The reservoir supports black bass, bluegill, and sunfish, and spring wildflowers form carpets of color along the shoreline. The Diamond Valley Lake Marina supports fishing and boat rentals, and the perimeter trail is popular for hiking and biking. Mount San Jacinto State Park is located in the San Jacinto Mountains and can be reached via Highway 243 from Idyllwild or by tram from Palm Springs. Elevation in the park ranges from 6,000 feet to the 11,000-foot peak of Mt. San Jacinto. The park's granite peaks, sub-alpine forests and mountain meadows offer visitors a primitive high-country experience with many hiking trails and spectacular views. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is also located in the Park. The tramway runs from near Palm Springs to an elevation of 8,500 feet near the summit of 10,834-foot San Jacinto Peak. Lake Perris State Recreation Area adds swimming beaches, boating, and waterskiing. Closer in, Soboba Springs golf, the Ramona Bowl Amphitheatre, and Temecula Valley wineries are all within an easy drive.

San Jacinto runs on a classic inland-Southern-California rhythm: hot, dry summers and mild, sometimes wet winters. The weather is moderate, with warm summers and mild winters, and the area averages 342 days of sunshine each year. Winter is peak snowbird season with higher park occupancy but pleasant temperatures, while summer brings triple-digit heat to the valley that makes extended stays less comfortable without strong air conditioning. Late fall through early spring is the busiest window in the valley resorts. Snowbird season typically runs November through March, and premium sites fill early. Spring and fall offer the best balance for shorter trips, with March through May and October through November giving mild weather and more manageable crowds at parks. Mountain camping flips the calendar. The high country around Idyllwild can hold snow into spring, and chains may be required to reach Mount San Jacinto State Park's campgrounds in winter. Summer is the natural season up there, since elevations near 5,500 to 6,000 feet stay much cooler than the valley floor.

Valley RV parks near San Jacinto are resort-style: paved or graveled pads with full hookups, pools, clubhouses, laundry, and organized activities aimed at long-stay snowbirds. Expect dense site layouts, level pads, and easy big-rig access from Highway 79 and the I-215 corridor. State-park sites are more rustic. Lake Perris has 167 tent (non-hookup) sites and 264 paved RV sites with hookups, and the RV hook-up sites have water, grey water, and electrical hook-ups but no black-water sewer hook-ups, with an automated dump station at the campground entrance. At Mount San Jacinto State Park, the Idyllwild campground is open year-round and includes tent, electric, full hookup, and ADA sites, while Stone Creek is normally open from the beginning of April to the end of October. Trailers, campers, and motorhomes are capped at 24 feet inside the park, so larger rigs should plan to stay in the valley and drive up for the day.
